  • we also need to put into production the eco motors opoc engine which operates at 50% as compared to existing engines which run at about 16-18%

  • It has nothing to do with how much foreign oil we import. It's the fact oil is fungible and OPEC controls a large enough percentage of production that they can strongly influence price. That's a problem. The problem is the oil monopoly over our cars, and technological mandates on new products is old, tried, and has a history of success. The Open Fuel Standards Act is a great idea. Let the markets decide on the Demand-end, not the Supply-end. And end the cartel's strangle-hold on the world.

  • OPEC's power actually grew because now it has strategic partners in China and India. Europe is also in the hands of OPEC. The arguments of the guy below me make no sense.

  • We import only 14% from Saudi Arabia and over half from Canada, Venezuela, Mexico and Nigeria. So why all this silly emphasis on the Middle East? I think you just want a scapegoat for "energy independence." Only about 1/5th of imports come from the entire Mideast.

Can it with the fearmongering. Weaning ourselves off the Middle East oil won't do much.

  • I don't knokw if you realize this, but OPEC's influence on oil prices, while still large, is not nearly what it used to be. There are so many other players in the market and developing nations like China and India that have much huger oil demands. An OPEC embargo would not work for large Western nations like the U.S.

I mean, we don't even import most of our oil from the Middle East! It's from Latin America, you dolt. We only import like 20% or less from the ME.

  • Are you gonna say that importing more cars is also bad for the country, despite all evidence to the contrary? That outsourcing defense technologies automatically makes us less safe? That the fact that hardly any of our clothing today is made in the U.S. is somehow "dangerous" to our health?

You're a joke, and so is your ridiculous nonprofit.

  • Subsidies are needed for these alternative energies because they're INEFFICIENT and costly! Ergo, the market won't allow anyone to really make a profit and be successful with it. Oil is efficient, so it can be quite profitable and help out America.

Not to mention all the regulatory costs and whatnot associated with things like even nuclear. Get real. EI is not necessary. We'll be fine, trust me.

Why is importing oil such a big deal but nothing else? come on, man

  • This guy's a typical energy independence fool. Read Gusher of Lies and get informed. Energy Independence in the U.S. is impossible. We consume way too much to wean ourselves completely off oil, at least with current technology. And besides, it's really not that big a deal.

Just tell our elected officials to quit meddling in the affairs of OTHER NATIONS! It's not that difficult. Oil doesn't have to draw us in.

  • Well said cousin ;)
