Ok, I dont understand the comparison between marijuana and religion, marijuana does not help you get closer to God, it kills your brain, firstly, it is illegal and secondly it has no corolation between drug use and religion.

Pff, it's not enough that they advocate illegal drug use on a school campus but they have to drag religion into, and do so insulting manner to boot. I can respect advocating marijuana legalization but when you do so in an offensive manner then don't be surprised when you're met with an offensive response. You have no idea what movement this kid was involved in or if he even wants to be part of any movement. I assume you are talking about the pro pot movement not the anti religion movement? There are many worse people bringing down the pro pot movement than this kid who is EXERCISING FREE SPEECH. I personally believe free speech is much more important than being able to smoke weed and I am willing to bet that most pot activists would agree. How can you be an activist without having free speech.

I'm merely stating that the pro-legalization movement is brought down by idiots like this by alienating the Christian majority. The only thing that offends me is the double standard that making any profane joke at the expense of Christianity is totally fine but you do the same thing to Judaism, Islam, or any other religion it's considered prejudiced and sacrilege. Hey, don't get me wrong. Do I go around ridiculing the religious? No. Would I be so heartless and thoughtless as to depict Jesus or Muhammad smoking a bong. No.

I just think it is important to protect things like free speech no matter what. Fear of Muslim or Christian retaliation will NEVER factor into my view of stipulations of free speech. Things like threats, libel, and slander are where I draw the line.

There are many people that I wish were not representing pot but it is their right.

I personally would not find it funny if it said "Mainlines for Jesus" but yes I would be just as happy defending that too.

One point though, this was not on campus.

If, however, they were on campus, I would not defend a sign that said "You should smoke weed because Jesus did it" any more than I would support one that was about meth. It is the difference between free speech and advertising at a place kids MUST be.

Oh and by the way, they do advocate meth use on campus already. It's called adderall. I have taken adderall many times and done meth a couple times. I am not proud of it, just putting it out there so you don't doubt my credibility. Adderall and meth feel almost the same. I prefer adderall.

Those government ads overexaggerate it to the nth degree. I guess they have to discredit the drug so it's not competeing with their CIA imported drugs of choice, heroin and coke.

In high school, just about every student has to take civics or gov't class, and they have to pass the state and federal Constitution tests. Much of what they have to remember regards their rights as citizens. What kind of message does this send when we're telling students "You have all these rights as American citizens" but in schools they have none, esp. government schools?

Leave it to the fucking gov't-run public schools to tell students they have no rights. Obviously! Government doesn't want people questioning it, and public schools are a great way for it to indoctrinate students. If we don't have free speech when it comes to this, what CAN we say? Can we only say things that agree with the school policies?

Show me where in that school's rules and regulations it says a student can be suspended for exercising his right to freedom of speech by questioning its anti-drug policies.

What about debate class in high school?? They seem to have free speech. So why can't regular students exercise it outside?? Does this also mean that a debate team can't debate the efficiency and morality of the War on Drugs? So it's ok to parrot the school's policies, but you can't question them?! This isn't freedom.

This was an unfortunate case. We need to protect free speech, but this was the wrong case to take to court. The kid was not trying to make a statement, and by his own admission was just trying to get attention. Because of this action, a damaging blow was made to student free speech rights.

Seems this case is clear-cut. It happened outside school grounds, and the principal violated the students' First Amendment rights to free speech.
