I have just bought a 335d just like yours and also have the little exclamation mark next to the D on the computer. Do you know what this is? it comes and goes randomly and I am a little concerned that its a fault of some form? Can anyone tell me what this is?
Like a year ago I raced against a BMW 335d on the highway, from 120 till 160 km/h I could keep up with him (Alfa Romeo 2.0 v6 turbo chipped around 230ps) then the BMW took over easily.
@Muslim2888 Excuse me, but there is no need to be rude. Diesel may not be the future, but it certainly has more of a future than gasoline. When oil runs out gasoline is done, but diesel engines can run on many other fuels, so we can potentially use diesel engines longer. Just because gasoline engines are SOMETIMES faster (look at the success of diesel Le Mans race cars), that certainly does not mean it is the future. USE YOUR HEAD!
@MaxHPep oh boy ! you know shit about engines and especially about the future of the engines! if oil runs out - yes diesl runs out too ! alternative : plants ! bio-diesel and ehtylalcohol.... btw the futer is Fuel cells. so you had to use your brain , not your head xD
@MaxHPep Not necessarily. Diesels have come along way, but petrols will always give more refinement and tuning potential. Many manufacturers are begining to work on their petrol units to improve mpg and slash CO2. I love the roar of a highly tuned petrol engine.
@MaxHPep I agree. I had a Peugeot 406 HDI (leased car) when I was a taxi driver and I used to abuse it and it never gave up. It had 380 000 miles on it and I asked one of the mechanics if it was on its original engine as I assumed it must have had at least one replacement in that time. The answer was yes, it was still the original engine. Quite impressive. However, I also had a Vauxhall Vectra DTi and the engine snapped its crankshaft. Petrols will last, if one changes the oil often.
Tuning potential? I say turbodiesels have the edge on that. On a lot of diesels, you can increase power by 100hp very easily and at a low cost. Gas motors are a lot more limited in the boost they can handle. With head studs and fire rings, my diesel can handle 60psi or more. Gas mpg will always lag behind diesel because of compression ratios and throttling losses.
CO2 isn't the issue, it's CO that's the issue on gas motors of which 99.9% of eliminated in cat. converters.
@rbuicki That's a self-imposed speed limit. The driver can set it to, say, 80mph and the car will chime at you every time you exceed it. My older 750iL has the same feature. Sometimes I'll set the limit at 10mph just to mess with other people who drive my car ;)
@Sanyi00 u could think of changing the mapping...theres a setup from "Dieselspeed" which let have ur car around 340 bhp and a torque of 700 Nm... I think this will rock without an end ^^
One of the best all round cars this. Effortless acceleration from that big engine from very low revs. It sounds really good aswell, better than the turbocharged I6 from the 335I but obviously not as good as the old 3.2 from the E46 M3. The 335d is better than the 335I in just about everyway and quite frankly, anyone who chooses a 335I over one of these is ignorant/stupid.
@AndyXDesigner agreed and bmw diesels are just soo beautiful to drive they sound so nice go soo quick and just yeah no reason to buy a petrol, they even sound better than a petrol lol
@SlashyBhoy i hear your point man, im not trying to dis bmw's im just sharing my opinion about the engines sound, no one else has gotten all nasty, and started the "bmw's could pwn Audi's" topic, cool it down and dont be so defensive, theres no need to make another pointless flame war about Audi and bmw
Yes, that was not so bad, but i think i can make a little bit better, because the tyres on the video was simple, thin one. And the temperature was a bit cold for a good acc. If I use a better tyre in summer, i think i can make the 0-100 under 5.7-5.8 sec.

3. I wouldn't buy a petrol engine just for 35 hp more.
