yeah that's spacecom (minus the holograms and dramatic music). If you're into working with satellites etc, SATCOM (2E1x1) or known as (RF Transmissions 3D1x3 now). It's still a high demand job, gotta have at least a 70 on the ASVAB to be considered for it. Though, in truth you'll be working outside alot setting up the antennas. The job is interesting and once you finish setting everything up it's laid back. I know the army has a similar MOS but not sure if you get an AS degree.
What is missing is the fact that most of the personal would be on LSD type drugs to stop the crew from telling the public on what is really going on up there.
this video is a little exaggerated but its not too far off from the real thing in the air force, i know because i have a job thats very similar to it, but the chances of you getting this job are very slim. your best chance to get this job is take rf transmissions at keesler (338th) 3d133 afsc and get stationed at a space com. base ex. buckley afb in CO
i am a robot nerd and i know we dont have hologram tech. yet. the best tech. to that is probably the "sixth sense" device. signals going back and fourth from space and earth take more than a couple seconds! fake!
Driversx241 is partially right, but once you make Senior Airman it gets a lot better. Hang in there young Airmen because the time goes fast and it's an extra retirement bonus. I've been in almost 22 yrs total military time (Army and Air Force) with about 3 yrs to go. I am currently serving at Vandenberg and have been able to travel to 42 states and 10 countries because of this amazing career.
Wow, their leader is a genius. Something's flying at their satellite, his peeps are all like "what should we do?!1" and he's all like "Launch avoidance manoeuvre."
@gliza i have talk to her several times. idk where she might be stationed at right now but we live in vandergerg california its between lompoc and santa maria CA
I'm an AFROTC Cadet and I love the USAF to death - but this commercial certainly over-glorifies that position. All that the people there do is make a few calculations, activate a thruster, and that's it. It's not anything that dramatic or exciting. And @natedoggx11 - Go study some science before you make comments like that.
Even on the ground, there isn't enough oxygen to burn it as hot as they need it to be. So space rockets have an oxygen supply with them, and mix it with the fuel shortly before they light it.
She called off a distance of 20 km; does Space Command actually use the Metric System now? All the time I was in it was next to impossible to wean people off these primitive miles, statute or nautical; except for NBC Cell Ops using 1:50,000 tactical maps in metric grids.
Yeah, right. If this isn't science fiction then I want my effing electric car. This commercial is a laugh. Keep recruiting the best and brightest with your ignorant commercials. cloverspace
It is an entirely fictional satellite. Unless they've been building some massive space facility in secret and decided to reveal it during a campy commercial. :/
One thing recruiters need to do (or do better because I've never seen it), is make sure every recruit knows about every job the AF offers. This is one of many very interesting jobs in the AF, & I ended up as a crew chief being pissed off I didn't go against what my recruiter told me was available (I waited 5 months to go to basic too). It was so frustrating learning about aircrew jobs while in Tech School. I spent most of my time volunteering for other things & got out. Still the love AF though!

how does the saTiite move out of the way it cant use rockets because there isnt oxygen in space for the rocket to burn
natedoggx11 2 years ago
It's compressed gas used in the satellite's reaction control system which pushes the satellite out of the debris trajectory.
