So sad. All the things Jimi could have done if he didn't die so soon. He changed the world so much during the time he was alive and could have changed it even more.
I like Jimi's music. I'm a musician too. But I don't feel like the anchorman did anything wrong here. He certainly didn't sound like he was trying to "defend the public from the evil rock and roll" He's just telling the news like any anchorman would. Jimi Hendrix wasn't exactly a major icon like Elvis at this time period. He was still a relative oddity appreciated only by cool young people. There's no reason why the media would paint him as a hero or guitar pioneer at the time of his death.
@SoftSexyManHands here, here. I specifically said 1970 bc of the way the anchor condescendingly called Hendrix's music 'unusual' and called him an 'acid rock' musician. the general tone of this man annoyed the shit out of me, like he was trying to defend the public from the evil 'rock and roll'
It very disturbing how the anchorman just seems to shrug this off.im not saying he should cry but being cold and offensive is not the way to announce anyones death.i bet he wouldnt be that way if it were his son, nephew or anyone.thats sad man
@twiztid1fiddy Well, that was just how the news media was back then, they didn't understand him like someone under the age of 30 would've, it's understandable. At least they reported it. At least in the years that followed, we got reporters (good and bad) who at least made the effort to understand someone like Hendrix and put his death in some kind of context.
@CJMars10 The "27 Club" ALSO includes "Blind Owl" Wilson, the guitarist from Canned Heat who died on Sept. 3, 1970 right before Jimi. And in Dec. of 1975 Gary Thain, the bassist from Uriah Heep, died at 27.
Is this piece of callous shit the only death announcement there is? It's horrible, done in a tone like one of those light-hearted end of news items. Terrible.
Wow... That news anchor was a piece of shit douche bag... How is it possible that anyone could be that bland and boring? Styrofoam called... It wants its personality back...
Disgusting to hear the contempt in the voices and attitudes of the Nazi-like news broadcasters upon reporting Hendrix's sad death. These self-styled America-loving patriotic creeps didn't even bother to mention that Jimi Hendrix had served as a paratrooper in the US Army in the Vietnam War when giving a summary of his life.
America had such a one track mind back in that day, notice frank reynolds clears his throat, he cant even do his fucking job, because he's so worried about his reputation, and not being a " outcast". frank reynolds, and mainstream working class americans of the sixties and fifties and seventies were dicks
This "news" report is embarrasingly bad..on several levels. Shame on you ABC. Shame on you Frank Reynolds. Shame on America for treating Jimi as if he caused the decline of western civilization because he was different. America is great on many levels, but our past is oh so shameful. I, for one, hope Jimi isn't resting in peace. I hope he has a wall of Marshall's a mile wide and an audience ten miles deep grooving to something new he has come up with. I think that would be heaven for Jimi.
@sk8tin4death517 okay, i'll be a smartarse then. coloured TVs were out in the decade of 1960. this being 1970, the person could have baught one from his local electricity store. i hope i've proved my smartarse-like self to you, thankyou.
Supposedly at the time of his death,he had under $20 in his bank account.
His manager fleeced him of all his money..There 's a rumour(admittedly a very fishy rumour)that his manager had him murdered...The autopsy makes the possibility realistic but Jeffrey died in a plane crash in 1973..I don't know why the person at the heart of the rumour would wait almost 40 years to come forward.
In any case,Hendrix's death was a HUGE loss to rock n'roll..FAR greater than the Beatles split.
@qbc176 are you trying to start a fight? The Beatles split is a terrible loss to Rock and so is the death of Jimi Hendrix. Both are tragic what we lost with Jimi Hendrix though isnt his music since alot of it seems to be coming out anyways what we lost is to hear his music mature with his life like The Beatles did. Both are great bands/artists why try to compare such things?
@qbc176 he WAS probably murdered by the mob at Micheal Jeffery's behest bc Jimi's lawyers were about to open an inquiry into the bank MJ had been putting Jimi's money into. Jimi was planning on dumping MJ as his manager. Unfortunately this was the same bank the CIA used for secret off-shore money accounts. Mj & the CIA both didn't want any feds near it. There was no OH in his system when he died, just too many sleeping pills, possibly being forced to eat them at gunpoint. :-(
the coroner revealed he had no alcohol in his blood stream. He was held down on the bed, when he was incoherent, heart slowed down, they just tried to pour a gallon down his throat and drowned him. There is also a report saying there was wine all over Jimi's head and sheets.
"Frank Reynolds clears his voice when announcing his death..."
that has always bothered me, it was very disrespectful. I mean the dude died and can't defend himself anymore.
As long as I live, I will never forget where I was when I heard Jimi had died. I was only 9, and my family and I were on our way to the airport to pick up my older bro who flew in from Vietnam. It came on as a newsflash over the radio, and upon hearing it I remember crying, as I was already a fanatic at that early age. I recall when I told my brother, his reaction was as if a close friend of his had died. I remember being saddened by realizing that I would never be able to see him in concert...
