I agree with you 100% that these beautiful Galah's should stay in Australia. In this situation though I wasn't the one who removed them. They were both in bad homes and were rescued to be in a loving home. This is all that I can do to make their life a little better. I am with you and feel that in a perfect world all parrots should be free and in their native habitat. On another note, we don't shoot them in America.
Toots is a rescue. Rare in US, $400-2500.Galahs are sweet. Caution! Not a good first parrot. Stubborn, nippy , moody. My movies are were in a good mood. Toots communicates very well; can tell exactly what she wants. If she don't get it, she gets winey and will nip you. They respond to respect, gentleness and patients. You have to accept that you will be nipped, shunned part of the day and played with when they want play. Once you learn and accept their mood swings, they are wonderful pets.
Galahs are smart. They quickly get bored and they can easily go nuts when left on their own with nothing to occupy their time. All cockatoos need to be entertained or engaged in some sort of activity.
When they get bored they can become destructive and resentful, and they will take their anger out on you. Plus it is about a 70 year agreement you are signing onto. They aren't dogs or cats that only live for 12 or so years. The bird will probably outlive you.
you are soooo right! Its a fragrance, some smell like honey, some smell like baby powder or just sweet. The greatest experience I've ever could made in my young life was to raise my cute little cockatiel girl "Aurie" up. Her Mother didn't wanted her and nearly she died of hunger but we rescued her. She smells more like powder and her brother "Peanut" a little bit like fresh wood ash, so cool! Give your sweet Gala a hug from me too! :D
@ROWDYTOOTS Mum and i thought we were wierdos cause we love the smell of birds, guess its not just us! Galahs smell lovely but we have budgies and for some reason only the alpha females of our little flocks tend to smell, however its the BEST SMELL IN THE WORLD!!! :)
We love all of our parrots. They each have a personality of their own and that is what you love. You can see into their eyes and realize a living mind behind them.
@ROWDYTOOTS oh yeah!! they are quite different...i have four cockateils and all of them have completely different personalities...heck they even have different appetites!
Toots was unhappy when we rescued her. She was less than two years and didn't like her home. She had plucked all of her tail and most of her wing feathers. It was a full year before the feathers came back in. She is now over four years and happy. We love her!
adorable !

bird cuddles are the best! It is luxury to cuddle with their feathers and breathing their wonderful scent in, isn't it? :)

Thanks for the comment. You are the first person to mention the scent that these beautiful birds have. Each type of parrot has a different fragrance.
