  • I made a 3.5 second ember with yucca on basswood today.

  • @erutelperion Wow! Get that stuff on film!

I wouldn't have thought that'd be possible! Then again I didn't believe I could get a sub 10 second ember when I did.

  • Looks like you get the job done pretty well to me.

  • not great technique but fair play you got an ember damn quick there

  • @bigchillywilly lol... not great technique? Hows is it not great when it got the job done in 7 seconds? You know your technique doesn't stay the same when your going this fast. Not to blow my own trumpet but watching it now I'd say it was a superb technique considering we were having a laugh and seeing how fast we could do it. Of course I'm sure you could man-up and publish a video of yourself showing me how it could be done with a better technique and just as fast.

  • Man, that's a hot one!

  • @scarz1951 Ironically it took me 7 seconds to create the ember but probably 2-3mins to blow the tinder bundle into life! It was a wet day and the tinder was most probably damp. Cheers,

    - Ashley.

  • Did you push the ember out on to tissue?

  • @nataliedmarsh Yes, I used tissue under the board.

  • That's great! I've tried pushing it out straight on to tinder but it tends to fall through and separate too much to maintain heat. I will have to experiment with this!

  • So sweet! I wish you guys lived in BC, Canada, it'd be nice to have a group to share knowledge with. Love the videos.

  • Thanks bud. I know it's not the same as being round the campfire but at least we do have this platform to continue to share skills/knowledge with each other all around the world and we will always aim to do that freely.

  • Excellent point! Its hard to find people around here interested in bushcraft (dispite living in an area where you might expect to find more people interested), but the internet is a great resource to share skill sets.

  • Well done on creating an ember in 7 seconds, takes a fair bit of skill. I would have preffered a more instructional video however which actually educates it's viewers on what's actually involved in finding the right materials etc

  • This was just a bit fun at a recent meet, we have already done a couple of videos that are a more instructional guide to the Firebow, one is called "A Guide to Fire by Friction" the other is called "Intro to Firebow/Bowdrill" hope some of it helps you.

  • Does the drill and board have to be the same wood? What woods are good? Can someone do a video on choosing the right wood?

  • Nicely done! What woods are you using?

  • @primitiveskills Sycamore :)

  • Terrific Ashley..

You have set the mark for us to shoot for :) I will try during our upcoming camp to see if I can come close to this on video..

  • Thats impressive!

  • Great Job Brother. Clean your shoes.

  • More frinction area, Longer bow cord, More presure...= Faster ember speed Merry Xmas everyone! Good bye!

  • 10/10

    Ashley, that was great!

  • nicley done

  • 7 seconds deserves respect

  • Great Job!

  • good job, 5/5

  • 7 seconds to get an ember. Ashley - you legend.

  • Job WELL DONE mate.

    7 second bow drill ember....lol

Thats a challenge there if i ever saw one.

    5*s

  • ash thats verry immpressive :D

  • wait u paintball?

  • @WoWbob396 I have done yeah a good few times, nothing special. I was a Paintball fan during childhood as my cousin played Paintball professionally travelling the world with it.

  • haha i cant keep a fire going with gasoline let alone make one with any.

  • What kinda wood are you using there?

  • It was my first day using that set, but I believe the hearth and drill were Sycamore

  • 5/5m8 merry xmas y'all

  • Ashley, You are a Bowdrill God...

    I am in your Debt.

  • Congrats. How long did it take to get the nest burning? - I noticed a splice in the video ;)

  • It took about 2mins 40secs to blow the tinder-bundle into life!.. Hence the sigh of relief and laughs at the end! The tinder bundle had become damp in the wet-winter air and need coaxing, it was touch and go for a min!

  • hahah well done! Surly a record was broken! 10/5

  • Very informative as always...Thanks
