Erik is the Phantom of the Opera. They don't mention his name in the musical or the movie. But I believe he is named such in Leroux's original story and offically named in Susan Kay's version of the book.

Read the book by Gaston Leroux and you will understand why Christine never went with Erik... It is literally a horror story, right up there with Frankenstein. The movie does not do it justice; although it is beautiful in it's own right, it is not completely faithful to the book. Flame me as you please. =)
