The bar was about an inch from his chest...that's very close to a full rep...for people with longer arms you're not even supposed to touch your chest, bad for shoulders, plus bouncing off your chest is dumb and gives you the momentum which is a form of cheating, this was a very good lift, sounds like you're just jealous.

  • Your not suppose to go down to chest, there is no point. Because you are then transferring the weight from your chest to your shoulders which then you can tear tendons in your shoulders.

  • @exeedorbit 2-5 inches away? To count in competition the bar has to touch the chest and remain motionless (about one second) before going back up. Not saying that partial lift wasn't impressive, but it wouldn't have counted in a contest.

  • @pyro69man you dont see someone doing this all the time. maybe 400 once in a while at a real gym. but 500 almost never. the reason is that if you go that high you f up your joints so even guys who can do that much rarely do just to protect their elbows etc. going heavy like this is all ego and really the bad outweighs the good. you do more damage than building.

IMHO it is cool and everything but when you go super heavy you do more damage than good. eventually you wear out your elbow joints and shoulder connections (rotator cuff).   • @gmfr34k that is the dumbest thing Ive ever read (and there are some stupid comments on this video), the range of motion for bench press requires you to eventually get to 90 degrees. If you arent achieving the full ROM then you are doing your bench wrong. That shoulder pain is either from bad form or fatigue on the stabilizing muscles in your shoulder (rotator cuff).
