This isn't entirely the case. lion population has decreased because of wide variety of issues, directly or indirectly connected to humans. Things like recreational hunting , poaching,global warming, disease, deforestation and just simply the lack of consideration and concern for the animals. Africa has a high birth rate but also has the highest mortality rate in the world ,I doubt over population is really the cause for all this.

You mean why stop killing the lions if they kill your cattle? Well, aside from the fact that wild lions are a national treasure for any country lucky enough to have them - which can bring in tourist revenue - lions are also an apex predator.

I shouldn't have to tell you what happens when a top carnivore is removed from an environment; the effect is felt throughout the ecosystem. In this case, wild herbivores would likely have a population explosion, and overgraze the fields needed for cattle.

Be sure to read my other comments, mate; believe me, I am not leaning one way over the other on this sort of issue. I don't have a preference for either side.

What I'm saying, though, is that there has to be a compromise between the two. Lions cannot be killed recklessly, and nor can the cats be given land that people make their living on. It's a complicated situation, but there needs to be a way the locals can benefit from the lions being around. Tourism, for example, is helping.
