Australia's rated system seems seriously messed up. And be assured, the only reason video games are a "young people" past time, is because they have only been around since the late 70s/ early 80s, and back then they weren't a major source of entertainment. Worst thing is it comes down to money with the rating system if its a game that will bring in alot of money e.g. Modern Warefare 2 it will be given an MA15+ rating even though every other country has classified it as an 18+ game. Take a look at Alien Vs Predator. Refused then after an outcry and the developers staunch refusal to change it, its MA15+.Unfortunatly Mortal Kombat has ALWAYS been controversal government hates it so it becomes the example, bottom line.

The reason is minority religious and conservative lobby groups have to much influence in our politics.
The Government already sought community input on the introduction of an R18+ rating for video games which led to an overwhelming 80% support for the introduction. Armed with this strong community support what did they do?
Nothing. They want to further consult with the remaining 20%.

I have been a MK for Fucking Years and i think the Government should back the fuck off, it's our choice if we choose to play a bloody and brutal game and we will enjoy it while doing so. @scscanlan Yeah Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification so the game devs heavily edited (butchered) it to get it in under our MA15+ category. No blood, corpses disappearing, it completely ruined the game for us.
