@B100DyJoKe i totally agree. The vocals on this album are, in my opinion, by far the best ever recorded from any Mayhem album. I don't like Maniacs vocals in general, but this is amazing, he truly sounds different and very good here. Besides that Dead is a much better vocalist.

I believe the whole Mayhem sound changed after Deathcrush, I would say after the death of both Euronymous and Dead. Like personally, I like Dead's lyrics much more than Maniac's like this song for example, "I fucked cuntless nuns" I don't really find anything amusing in the lyrics.
@B100DyJoKe Yeah, Mayhem lost their initial concept shortly after Dead and Euronymous died. Nowadays Mayhem is just a band trying to win some money with the name and the lengends. There was a concert here in my country last year, i didn't go. I wouldn't spend a penny to see them play. Put it this way, Deathcrush is one of my favorite albums of all time, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is quite good, everything else beyond that is pure shit. Mayhem is crap now.

I listened to Deathcrush album first thing, then I got ALL albums then it became a different Mayhem if u ask me;only a couple of tracks from some albums. For me, Deathcrush is black metal being listened and felt. The other albums are just not my type. I understand what u mean about their sound and I kinda agree with u. The new BM scene is uncool to me; it lost touch to it's roots. It's not what we listened to in the late 80s and early 90s.

@IamDarthVader1 All those bands I listed were true black metal. A different wave and type of black metal, but still black metal. Deathcrush was the birth of the second wave of black metal.
Just black metal have 3 main substyles - proto-black (or first wave), true-black (or second wave) and sympho-black (Dimmu Borgir,Cradle of Filth,Emperor,Satyricon and etc.)
@ThrashMetaltillDeth And I think Black/Thrash deserve a place in here, they are like the rebirth of the first wave. A great example of that style would be Deströyer 666 (yes I know it's cheesy but it's so bad that it's actually good), easily my favourite band of all time.

That's second wave. First wave of true Black Metal was lead by Venom, Celtic Frost, and Bathory. Second wave is split into two, European and Norwegian. But to list them would be a work in futility. The first wave of black metal made the sound, the second wave created the dreams thereof. By the end of the last century, it was gone. Most bands had forsaken the seconds wave black metal ideal, the sound that actually made them distinctive.
