  • Interesting. What you found is a 45 rpm mother plate. The reason why this record is so clean is that it was used for making master plates, not playing. Any copies of this record pressed are image copies of this mother plate. I wouldn't play it much, especially with this type of player. You will wear it out quickly.

If you ever think about selling either of these let me know. I collect acetates as well

  • @PJDooWop Thanks for the info. I rarely play the acetates, and in the case of these...I played them when i first got them, and then for these videos, and thats it. Im not sure If id ever want to sell them, unless I determined they were quite desireable or valuable. But even at $10 each or even $20 each, Im not sure its worth selling them, as they are such a neat part of the collection. Thanks for writing, and Ill be sure not to spin them on the classic players again.

  • Anybody offering you ten or twenty bucks for this is out of their mind (no offense to any other collectors out there). What you have is special. I would appraise the value at about $100 as that is what I have paid for similar pressing mothers, but determining a "true" value for one of these things is nearly impossible.

You're correct. It's not worth selling these. I can just about guarantee that you will not come across others.

  • @PJDooWop Very interesting! I am always on the lookout for acetates, usually typical 'home recordings'. These were a no brainer, as I knew immediately they were something special, or at least something 'professional'. But when it comes to these things, valuing is incredibly difficult, because...as you obviously know....how do you value something that is the only one, and has never been offered for sale before. I knew my $1.00 investment was wise, but how wise? I may never know :)

  • A damn good investment, without a doubt

  • What an amazing thing to find and it does sound really good.

  • yeah I agree, great song! You could almost imagine hearing Lesley Gore Singing this.

  • @gwilll2006 The spoken part at the beginning is very Little Eva, to me. Its like I swear I know the voice and the song....but cant seem to find anything about it. Another lost relic saved!

  • yes, I listened again, and I can hear what you are saying, that first singer does sound a bit like Little Eva. I guess its the rest of the song, not so much the singer, is a sort of "Its My Party, Judy's turn to cry" sort of similarity at least to me. I was imagining Lesley Gore singing.

  • @gwilll2006 YES....I was thinking ;judys turn to cry' as well. maybe its just the 'johnny' thing. :)

  • thats true, its easy to make this connection to those songs because of the guy's name in the lyriucs.
