Actually, Martin O'Donald and Micheal Sarvorti did that on purpose. If you download Mausoleum suite and used a program to play it backwards, thats what you would hear. If you sped it up backwards it would sound as if Cortana was saying it.

I know why Bungie made this hidden message. Does anyone else know? Well to start, the video is a Subliminal Video. Subliminal videos contain images and words that appear and disappear so quickly, your conscious mind doesnt notice them. This way the messages and pictures go directly to your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind learns through repetition. Thats how you formed your current beliefs and habits. This can also alter your want to buy the game. Thus, why they put it in the trailer.

Perhaps the Forerunners did not build the Halo array, and 'inherited' it from the Precursors, who 'inherited' it from whichever race came before them. Perhaps this is just an endless cycle between the Flood and the Reclaimer, and this is a weary Reclaimer's confession of his many sins. It's a fitting theory, seeing as the voice sounds like Master Chief's.

I was disappointed that halo 3 didn't further explore the fact that in halo 2 you discover that the flood are actually capable of intelligence... like they don't really do anything with that part of the story, then again I dont own halo 3 I played it co-op with my friend and dont remember alot of it... I dont recall them ever addressing the flood really...
