Yeah, OK, Scott, so you wanted to build in this new feature that lets people initiate spin-off meetups from the main meetup, and lets them "self-organize" their own meetups.
Fine. So why couldn't you have just built that into the existing layout as an option for the (small minority of) organizers that want to use it and just leave it at that? Why did you have to make the whole rest of the site so damn FUGLY?!?
From the statement it took 5 days to put out: "We only change Meetup because we want change the world." Whattttttt!!!!!! Don't you think that you are getting a little ahead of yourself here?The term megalomania come to mind. "We don't change Meetup for the sake of change... we want change the world" - Don't you see the contradiction!!! Yes, YOU do want to change it for YOUR sakes. I do like that you said that you will continue to address the spammers and creeps hopefully you follow through.
And from Mark Hanna, product manager of Meetup.com, "Excited to start a new Meetup Group with #NewMeetup - just need to think of a killer idea." Mark can be found on Twitter as @MarkHHanna.
The powers that be at Meetup.com have ignored their customers over the last several days, they seem to have stuck their collective heads in the sand and are waiting for this to all blow over instead of answering customer complaints. I have been a paying customer for over five years.
The absolute worst part of this whole mess, posts like this one from the CTO of Meetup (Greg Whalin, @gwhalin) on Twitter.
"Had one of the best, awesome, and most relaxing weekends I can remember having in a long long time! Especially needed after last week."
This after three days of complaints from his customers, obviously he has taken the weekend off to relax while leaving his customers to stew about the situation.
The biggest reason that letting anyone organize is a HUGE mistake is that there are a ton of spammers and creeps out there. People already try to use groups I am in for their own profit and agenda. In the very large groups there is the very real possibility that a creeper could organize an event and that event and their behavior will reflect on the organizer. As a women I have ran in to many creepy guys who should NEVER be allowed to organize anything. I ban them other groups do not.
Please, please listen to the organizers! Everyone HATES the changes!!!! As for members wanting to meet before events they were already able to organize their own pre-event meetups by posting comments on the event page. Or by e-mail. Or phone. Or Facebook. To make it part of the group is crazy. You guys refuse to get rid of the rating system but these pre-events would be rated too. Most people do not want to organize plus they might flake.
