@cadillacowboy1 1998 Cub Cab Dakota 2wd V6 5-spd. but I yanked out the 3.9L V6 and the anemic AX-15, and put in a 383 big block stroked to 438, cammed up with aluminum heads, and a TKO-600 5-spd manual transmission
@bsl3216 yup. backfire on downshift. it's a carb, so when you lift on the gas, the carb is still pulling fuel through the idle circuit, unlike EFI where the injectors completely shut down under closed throttle coasting. so, fuel, plus no air, plus a leaky exhaust header gasket equals backfires. I changed header gaskets and the backfiring went away.
