The fact that this vid is called "Habana Gets Taken Back To School" says enough. I've watched and played rugby all my life, i've also just watched this video three times and i still don't know the name of this "American" guy. Bottom line is John O'Shea nutmegged Figo twice in the same game and who gives a s**t about John O'Shea.
Lol people are just trying to discredit the USA by mentioning he's Zimbabwean. I guess it's the cool thing to do but really it was the USA who brought him up and nurtured him in the game. In fact, I live in Texas and he played his rugby in Texas and he comes from that mold.
If you actually see it properly, takudzwa( zimbabwean) stepped habana forcing him to stop whilst takudwa already had forward momentum so for habana to even keep up with him is outstanding!
@skuxxbumm Habana does not run 10.2. Maybe on a short track, with a flying start, the wind behind him and his dad timing. Don't believe all the hype mate, there is a big difference between a fast rugby player and a sprinter. The fastest ever rugby player of all time was clocked at 10.25 and this was not habana. He is fast but there is no chance in hell he would get anywhere near 10.2.
@rugbygirl34 yet isn't that the great thing about the USA? We have no chance of even making the quarterfinals, let alone winning the world cup, so what are we going to do about it? Show up, play our hardest, have fun, and get better. And have at least one moment like this (hopefully) that makes the world take notice.
@rhsdrama010 i just read my comment and didnt realise how harsh it sounded, EVERY team has a chance, after watching rugby for 20 odd years ive realised that its how the team plays on the DAY, it doesnt matter how they have played up until then, France has taught me that lesson too many times............x(
Love this video. Great try by a team who were underdogs in that game. One of the memorable moments! True I am a Saffer, but I am a rugby fan first and foremost. I love to see good play, regardless of who's doing it. Here a Bok got beaten, but it was a magic moment. Overall Habana, in his pomp, was the best winger in the world.
Habana is a great winger, look at his stats. But he got smoked here. The funny thing is that when Zee lived in the US he wanted to play in the NFL but in his words "I'm not big enough or fast enough to play in the NFL." If the US ever took rughby to heart, they would crush people. But that day will prob never come. Great try.
@TurtleWB don't think so, you should check out Leonard or Miles Craigwell, both rugby converts from the NFL who admitted how much more physically demanding rugby is compared to American football. The US would be a strong team, if the sport became popular there, but I wouldn't say they would "crush" other teams.Look at the All Blacks, top team in history and only a population of 4 million.
lets be honest.... this has never appeared in this format on RD so in reality you stole the video and put your own music on top..... hardly "Just a little video I put together" as you put it...
u should all just be quiet ngwenya is faster he run 100m in 10.5 and when the news report on habana racing a cheetah they said his time was 11 seconds flat on a proper track
Jesus, I don't think Habana needs to proof himself to anyone, He has been a fantastic Springbok over the last couple of years, and will hopefully continue to do so!! Anyone who scores 9 try's in a WC has to be respected as a top class player, like him or not!!
...if this guy is that good, let him line up with Brian Habana for a 50 or 100 metre sprint and let's see what the result is. Anyone can be caught out like Brian did there, but at other times you can't live with Habana.
@DUNC4NF4TTY IMO Ngwenya is every bit as fit as Habana and a lot faster. He is nowhere near as talented a stepper or support runner, and is a far less redoubtable defender but give credit where it is due. Certainly Habana is the better winger but it is unfair and unfounded to accuse Ngwenya of being unable to run for 80 minutes.
@UlsterWinger Sorry mate i think that the score proves my point I dont think you ever watch brian habana i know full well he will run all the time through out the match not just at one point Brian habana scored two tries which proves he had done some more running before and after that point, and if he was every bit as fit as habana and was a lot faster why dont you ever hear about him more often in any other games he plays for usa and biarrits ?
@DUNC4NF4TTY Firstly, its spelled Biarritz. Secondly, I never questioned Habana's ability to run for 80 mins. Thirdly, I hear about Ngwenya all the time as one of the regular try-scorers in Top 14 rugby. Just last year he scored 6 Heineken cup tries (2nd most in the entire competition) and helped Biarritz make the final. All I hear about Habana recenly is that he is playing badly, is at risk of being dropped by the Stormers and Bjorn Basson is going to take his jersey for the tri-nations.
@UlsterWinger What Brian Habana has done for "springboks, blue bull and the Stormers" and then lets look at the fact that South Africa won this game do you know why because Brian Habana scored 4 tries just 2 tries off what Ngwenya had scored for Biarritz in the ENTIRE Heineken cup. Brian Habana = 190 points for Springboks ratio of 2.7 60 points in Blue Bulls and Stormers ratio of 0.8. Ngwenya = 25 points for USA ratio of 1.7, 20 points for "Biarritz" ratio of 0.4, look at the facts 1st
@ImDisturb3d Ngawenya's in and out is what took Habanas momentum away, nt the back tracking. He simply made Habana get flat footed then turned on the pace.
He dances on front of him , drawing him in , which gives him a few seconds of a headstart, habbana wud of caught him if he had 2 metres more.. Just sayin , haa ngwena ever done this again?
@briancarrane no way habana would have caught him, he was pulling away from him, IF Habana thought he had the legs he would have delayed his tackle 2-3 metres more and maybe would have had a chance of making the tackle, as it was he got SMOKED!
This is that one time out of ten when Habana will get burnt. And yep... he got burnt. Ngwenya had the gas here. Habana gave him his jersey afterward and pretty much said the same thing: "yep, he got me there".
Only people who never played rugby think that high speed is important. No, it's not.
Balnce and foot steps are more important, I've seen people running fast (but not very fast) and pass 3 or 4 good players just because their paths were smart, etc.
Habana can have his off day just like anyone else. HE WAS NOT SCHOOLED!! He reads the game like a true player so take your pity party somewhere else.. Habana will outplay you CYMROKID
Fortunately the US don't take Rugby seriously! However, this shows what the world would be up against if they did. Imagine some of he athletes from Basketball and American Football in Rugby.
Ponytail player is Todd Clever, he plays his rugby is South Africa. He must have had a smile on his face after the game, think he knows the SA team by name.
Too much is made of this. Not taking anything away from the American lad, but he gets the ball in acres of space and if Habana had sprinted to close him down, the American would have stepped inside, so Habana's hesitancy leads to the American taking him on the outside. Fair play to the American, he runs an intelligent line first to preserve space, then times his sprint perfectly and takes the try well, but it's not as if Habana has been shamed as some commentators suggest.
@bustedwinger yea but your never sposed to show people your outside shoulder, gives them to much space to work with. habana should have busted across to the touch line and forced ngwenya inside hopefully into another defender.
Aye, exactly - in an ideal game, not one where you were already having to track across, so to show him the inside shoulder you'd have to stop your momentum. If Habana had done that and Ngwenya had timed it properly, Ngwenya would have blown straight through him because Habana couldn't have put any bodyweight into a tackle.
Nice talking rugby with you, drtyda - most comments on here are "Habana got schooled, yo!" "Innit!" Maybe we disagree but at least we know enough to debate!
he's needs to run an angle while 15 is running tramline down the wing. Huge difference in distance covered.
Rugby field being no wider than 70 meters, 100 meters between try lines means the field diagonal is sqrt(70^2 + 100^2) = 122m. If the guy running the win can run an 11 sec 100, the guy running the diagonal would need the pace of a 9.01s 100m just to keep pace, let alone catch him.
@Tincats123 Funny how i've been playing rugby my whole life, represented my country at under 16 level also playing winger so i know it pretty much inside and out, habana has the assests to be a good winger yet when he plays he doesn't use them to his potential ability, hes only named to be one of the best wingers in the world! not of all time because hes one of the fastest, you prime idiot
@Natoyle93 Well that answers the question then, that because you have played rugby at ' baby' level certainly does not mean for 1 second that you understand the game or in your case, know what you are talking about!! Brian Habana is considered to be one of the best wingers ever, granted, his form now is not what it was 2 years ago but his record speaks for itself played 59 matches scored 38 tries. Also equaling Lomu's record of 8 tries in a WC. I say again, go back to watching football kiddo.
@Natoyle93 I don't proclaim to know everything about rugby, unlike you, but I certainly can tell a great player from an average player, for example, Bryan Habana is rated very highly for a reason, he has done it many times for his country & club and does not deserve the ' over rated' tag you label him with ~ perhaps it's not him you dislike so much, maybe it's the country he plays for, are you anti South African ' my man'?
@Tincats123 Im not trying to proclaim i know everything about rugby either, you called me a footballer 'i told you no i play rugby', you suggest i know nothing about rugby, you then said i play rugby at a baby level, representing my country is an elite level not grass roots, yes ofcourse theres stil much i need to learn about the game.
@Tincats123 I have my opinion and so do the 37 other people who liked my comment. If i feel habanna is overated then ill say hes overated, hes not the best winger in the world like people say he is they only say that because of his speed, but there is much more to being a winger than just speed, something you wont no you football watching prime idiot.
@Natoyle93 That means you and 37 other people who feel Habana is overated think this way because of the country he plays for or maybe it's a race thing, but for what ever stupid reason it is, your all wrong, he is rated highly by millions, so 37 little thumbs up don't mean anything at all. And yes, you little spastic poof, playing rugby for the under 16's regardless at what level, is still considered Jnr. Look at Habana's record before you make an ass out of yourself again ~ ok little man!!
@Tincats123 Ha your assuming im racist, no mate if anything i have respect for south africa, having an economy with major issues they still manage to win the World Cup. Im british and i never liked ian balshaw thought he was crap, you might agree you might not agree, i think habana is overated not to say hes utterly shit as hes not but hes not the greatest winger of all time if he was he would of stopped Takudzwa now wouldnt of he, Dont call me little man id easily put you in your place you dick
@Natoyle93 LMFAO you will put me in my place, you don't even know me , if you are such a hero & want to prove yourself against me, be my guest, I also live in the UK so this can be arranged pvt message me your details and it can be set up fool!! Regarding Habana and been overated, Habana has represented South Africa 59 times and has scored 38 tries, better than Lomu, or would you consider him to be overated to? Nobody said Habana was the best ever, but he will go down as 1 of the greats. Wee man
after watching shane williiams burnt habana this guy takes the cup not only he left him behind his dust hes like WTF where did he go

Ponytail player is Todd Clever, he plays his rugby is South Africa. He must have had a smile on his face after the game, think he knows the SA team by name.
waterkop9 1 year ago
Too much is made of this. Not taking anything away from the American lad, but he gets the ball in acres of space and if Habana had sprinted to close him down, the American would have stepped inside, so Habana's hesitancy leads to the American taking him on the outside. Fair play to the American, he runs an intelligent line first to preserve space, then times his sprint perfectly and takes the try well, but it's not as if Habana has been shamed as some commentators suggest.
bustedwinger 1 year ago
@bustedwinger yea but your never sposed to show people your outside shoulder, gives them to much space to work with. habana should have busted across to the touch line and forced ngwenya inside hopefully into another defender.
But that is in an ideal game
drtyda 1 year ago
@drtyda

@Natoyle93 Are you on drugs you fool, he is one of the greatest wingers of all time ~ go back to watching football you prime idiot!!
Tincats123 7 months ago
@Tincats123 Funny how i've been playing rugby my whole life, represented my country at under 16 level also playing winger so i know it pretty much inside and out, habana has the assests to be a good winger yet when he plays he doesn't use them to his potential ability, hes only named to be one of the best wingers in the world! not of all time because hes one of the fastest, you prime idiot
Natoyle93 7 months ago
@Natoyle93 Well that answers the question then, that because you have played rugby at ' baby' level certainly does not mean for 1 second that you understand the game or in your case, know what you are talking about!! Brian Habana is considered to be one of the best wingers ever, granted, his form now is not what it was 2 years ago but his record speaks for itself played 59 matches scored 38 tries. Also equaling Lomu's record of 8 tries in a WC. I say again, go back to watching football kiddo.
Tincats123 7 months ago
@Tincats123 So what makes you think you know rugby so god dam well then my man!
Natoyle93 6 months ago
@Natoyle93 I don't proclaim to know everything about rugby, unlike you, but I certainly can tell a great player from an average player, for example, Bryan Habana is rated very highly for a reason, he has done it many times for his country & club and does not deserve the ' over rated' tag you label him with ~ perhaps it's not him you dislike so much, maybe it's the country he plays for, are you anti South African ' my man'?
Tincats123 6 months ago
@Tincats123 Im not trying to proclaim i know everything about rugby either, you called me a footballer 'i told you no i play rugby', you suggest i know nothing about rugby, you then said i play rugby at a baby level, representing my country is an elite level not grass roots, yes ofcourse theres stil much i need to learn about the game.
Natoyle93 6 months ago
@Tincats123 I have my opinion and so do the 37 other people who liked my comment. If i feel habanna is overated then ill say hes overated, hes not the best winger in the world like people say he is they only say that because of his speed, but there is much more to being a winger than just speed, something you wont no you football watching prime idiot.
Natoyle93 6 months ago
@Natoyle93 That means you and 37 other people who feel Habana is overated think this way because of the country he plays for or maybe it's a race thing, but for what ever stupid reason it is, your all wrong, he is rated highly by millions, so 37 little thumbs up don't mean anything at all. And yes, you little spastic poof, playing rugby for the under 16's regardless at what level, is still considered Jnr. Look at Habana's record before you make an ass out of yourself again ~ ok little man!!
Tincats123 6 months ago
@Tincats123 Ha your assuming im racist, no mate if anything i have respect for south africa, having an economy with major issues they still manage to win the World Cup. Im british and i never liked ian balshaw thought he was crap, you might agree you might not agree, i think habana is overated not to say hes utterly shit as hes not but hes not the greatest winger of all time if he was he would of stopped Takudzwa now wouldnt of he, Dont call me little man id easily put you in your place you dick
Natoyle93 6 months ago
@Natoyle93 LMFAO you will put me in my place, you don't even know me , if you are such a hero & want to prove yourself against me, be my guest, I also live in the UK so this can be arranged pvt message me your details and it can be set up fool!! Regarding Habana and been overated, Habana has represented South Africa 59 times and has scored 38 tries, better than Lomu, or would you consider him to be overated to? Nobody said Habana was the best ever, but he will go down as 1 of the greats. Wee man
Tincats123 6 months ago
Why didn't that last defender try to knock him out of bounds or force him to try it on the far outside? It seems like he just kind-of gave up.
