@bagofbones11 A platinum silicone will not break down, but it will eventually loose its release properties and become "leathery" on the surface after repeated casting. Depending on the cross section of the part, the frequency of casting, and the type of resin used, the mold may last anywhere from 50 to 150+ castings. We have molds here in our shop that we have cast parts in them for years. Rapid, production casting w/o release is the fastest way to kill a mold.
Is this, or any other silicone, okay to make a mold of a brass object? I imagine that it wouldnt cure well. if not, is there anything i can coat that brass part in before i make a mold of it?
is there any alternative to the mold release? i would have to bring it on a plane so i cant really use anything aerosol/stored in a compressed container
This is a very good video. I learned a lot about how to make molds from it! Could you tell me, perhaps, if this type of molding would be good for casting construction model parts, like for a bulldozer or something? I am just learning and would like to know. Thanks!
i noticed you did spray releas oil on the molde before you pured the resin... i read that you should spray the moldeshape to make the resin releas better... but also that this can caus more bubbels.
I have had pieces of the molde break out, sticking to the resin. Is that a caus of not oiling the molde or maybe not mixing the silicon well enough?
I love watching resin cure. Such a cool process.

What im wondering is how much times you can use these mods before they start to break and not work?

This is a good video. I have to make my own gear to my car's a/c bend flap actuator motor.

is it me but @2.41 the cog parts have air bubbles..?
foxone1974 1 year ago
@foxone1974 There was some grease on the original that transfered to the mold.

would this work if i wanted to make a mold of a glass? Like a wine glass or a shot glass?
MzAmeliaMadness 1 year ago
@MzAmeliaMadness Check out our 71-11 mold video. In that video we mold a glass and cast it in rubber.

How does EZ-Flow 60 vary in density to molded polystyrene or molded ABS?

@KewneRain Never directly compared the 2 products.

Does this work if the object I want to mold from is another silicone based material? (eg gel 10 silicone hand)
mikeccuk2006 1 year ago
@mikeccuk2006 2500 is a good release for silicone to silicone but vaseline thinned with mineral spirits is even better.

Would 71-20 silicone and easyflo 60 be a good choice to make a mold of a standard chicken egg shell?
YouNeedThePriest1 1 year ago
@YouNeedThePriest1 71-20 would work for the mold but Easy Flo 120 might be a better resin for the egg shell.

GREAT VIDEO! I am about to use silicone for the first time. Is mold release necessary when using silicone?
freshiesss 1 year ago
@freshiesss 2500 is recomended but not mandatory on items like plastic or clay. When molding anything glass or metal release is a really good idea.

just depends on the cofiguration of the part. For parts with 1 flat side this method works great.

These are Platinum silicone molds so they need no release for resin casting.

can you estimate about how many times those molds could be re-used.....
This seems to be the system i'm looking for to make 25mm game miniatures:)
stumpythumper 2 years ago
100-200 parts depending on how complicated the piece is and how well the mold is made.
