Personally, (while there are things that bother me and things that outright make me role my eyes), I've never actually really "hated" any of the Silent Hill games (aside from four.) This one looks pretty nifty. I can't wait to play it.
am i the only one here that thinks this looks pretty good? if you watch the video where there in the town it looks pretty good, sidequests offering plenty of backstory, focus on exploration rather on combat, enemies being generally more powerful than you so your encouraged to run from encounters, and a huge open town just like the old games. they also took out the inventory and made the combat more natural with picking up objects laying around as weapons. i think there doing a good job.
As Tomm Hulett (producer) said, have to innovate the game because otherwise it gets boring, i this is what they are doing, innovating, will be a great game, will be a little different than we acustomados to see more nevertheless will be a great game
same happened to the HMM series. As soon as slavs became its developers it lost all of its appeal. HMM 5 is totally unplayable. it gives no enjoyment whatsoever.

This is not a SH game. Not because it's not developed by Team Silent, but because it isn't even remotely scary. I'll try it when it goes down in price though...

Although this last three aren't real Silent Hill videogames.
SH2 perhaps is considered the best because was the first for PS2 and many people played SH after SH2... But SH is the best ever (not in graphics, of course, but they were so great for the time). SH3 kick ass as well. SH4 is already decent. Afterwards, all is non-SH shit.
Where do people like these hosts come from and how do people become this nerdy (but without the intelligence as evident in how he gets the game's title wrong)? Just so unfunny, irritating, and compelled to ramble over gameplay for 40 minutes? Man, I miss the vuvuzela button sometimes.

@HellFireMagazine if you want to kill everything the go play gears of war. This is intended to be a survival horror game, not an action third person shooter
Stupid people are being stupid. Silent Hill and Alan Wake look similar, yes. There is really only so many ways a CGI forest can look in a dark setting FFS. Downpour also uses an Unreal Engine, which means it will have some similar animation feel to games that use Unreal Engines...and really, why whine about things like that. All games nowadays look or feel similar to another game because Devs take inspiration from several sources, including games they like or games that are doing well.
for ppl thats saying silent hill is ALAN WAKE are idiots.. SILENT HILL BEEN OUT SINCE January 1999. Silent hill MADE Alan wake lol. without Silent hill Alan wake probably would never been thought of.. there's 7 games of SH the rest is remakes or collections. so enough of this "silent hill is Alan wake" every time a great game comes ppl compare.
like GoW > Castle-Vania.. wow.. fail. CastleVania64 and Devil may Cry was long before GoW. so they did not copy off of GoW.
I didn't care much for Alan wake. I didn't like the departure from the series as homecoming, it just felt wrong, I enjoyed the rich history and background of the previous entries and comics but homecoming turned Pyramid head into a generic villain just for a selling point.
Couldn't agree more dude, the whole 'self narration' is such a rip of Alan Wake, but i also enjoyed Alan Wake, i just hope that SH Downpour is at least mildly creepy
@Team3Saiyanz Earlier games had self narration, it was only in text though. Wow, they try to make character look more alive and give him personality and everyone calls it Alan Wake clone,
@Deathlock257 Main character narrates and talks to himself, open-world environment in the woods that isnt fully open-world. Same atmosphere as Alan Wake, shadowy, wooded, foggy environments. Flashlight is a main part of the game. So no I'm not kidding. No on said it's EXACTLY like Alan Wake, but anyone with common sense who played it can see many similarities. And those features are not something SH is known for, it's something Alan Wake is known for. Go troll some more comments
@Simpleman925 Alan Wake doesnt have a similar atmosphere to SH, so those people would be wrong. Maybe your and their definition of atmosphere is different ? Atmosphere includes the scope of the game, and how it presents itself to you. Alan Wake gave you an "open-worlded" "Lost in t he woods" atmosphere, the original Silent Hill games gave you a survival horror atmosphere, with tight corridors and not knowing wat lies beyond. So no, Alan Wake doesnt have an atmosphere like SH did.
@Simpleman925 As I said before, you can put a random screenshot of SH 1-4 next to Alan Wake and see they are entirely different games. Put a screenshot of Alan Wake next to Downpour w/o knowing which is which and you'd think they were both AW
@scarface1224md Have you ever played a SH game before? Main characters also talk to themselves in SH games, there are foggy environments, there was a forest in the beginning of SH 2. Almost all SH games had flashlight and they were one of the main parts of the gameplay because you needed them to see in the dark environments. Anyone with common sense who played SH games can see many similarities with SH games and those features are some of the stuff SH is known for.
@TheOriginalvsRemake When I mention it has a forest setting and a foggy environment, that pertains to the majority and entirety of the game. No Silent Hill game was focused mainly in the forest or woods until Downpour. No Silent Hill game was also semi-open worlded like Downpur is. SH games always utilized the flashlight however it wasnt NEEDED like it is in Downpour. You could very ewasily go through an original SH game w/o your flashlight.
@scarface1224md Downpour isn't mainly focused on woods, that's just a small part in the beginning of the game, before you go into the town. It is needed because it's dark, it's not like you can damage enemies with a flashlight. SH 1 and 2 were semi open ended. Downpour is more open ended than those though. I find Alan Wake comparisons ridiculous. It's like you compare Alone in the dark with Fatal Frame.
@TheOriginalvsRemake Downpour isnt mainly focused on woods ? Downpour of course has alot of interior places but it revolves around the rain/ outside and the semi-open-world of the woods. That's where all the side quests and missions that are available in the game are gotten to from. You seem like you don't klnow much of the details of Downpour and it's actual gameplay. The gameplay itself is nothing like previous SH games in terms of a straight forward storyline and path.
@scarface1224md Woods are just a small part of the game, before you go into the town, I don't understand what you don't get with that? You could go around the town in SH 1 and even enter some buildings like the police station and the gas station, that's what makes it semi open ended. Later games like SH 3 and 4 were more linear. I know a lot of details about Downpour's gameplay, you just assumed I don't know. Just ask me something and I'm gonna show you that I know.
@TheOriginalvsRemake With your OPINIONS aside, both Alan Wake and SH Downpour are semi- open worlded games whose main setting is a huge wilderness area. Those are facts. No SH game before Downpour contained this "open-world" element nor was the setting mostly in this environment. SH was all about towns and tight corridor buildings.... Those are some more FACTS for you. And stay on topic. Noones comparing Alone in The Dark. Don't veer off topic to make your OPINION sound rite
@scarface1224md Also, there's no need to be rude, I was just saying that it's silly to compare Downpour and Alan Wake, it's like you compare Fatal Frame and Alone in the dark. SH atmosphere wasn't all tight corridors, you were going around the town too. The storyline of Downpour can also be straightforward, it's your decision will you do the sidequests or not, besides SH 1 had a Kauffman sidequest, so it's not like it's something new in the series, it also had semi open world.
@TheOriginalvsRemake If you want to go thru and say that SH had a forest for a few mins in SH 2 and that it always had fog is a stupid way to avoid the obvious of how similar SH downpour resembles the look and feel Alan Wake gives. Alan Wake did not copy the look and feel of a 10 year old PS1 or PS2 game, The atmosphere Alan Wake gives isnt possible to be produced by a PS1 or PS2 Silent Hill game.
@TheOriginalvsRemake You can play SH which is mostly indoors/tight corridors and it goves no resemblence to the Open World Lost feeling of Alan Wake. Maybe it's that I look at the atmosphere a gives gives you, maybe you're too young to see that too. Maybe you're too literal in that sense. You can put a random screenshot of SH 1-4 next to AW and see they are different games. Put one of Alan Wake next to Downpour w/o knowing which is which and you'd think they were both AW
@TheOriginalvsRemake I never said AW invented Forests did I ? I said that Downpour resembles the atmosphere of AW greatly. The "Open World" Forest is the main example of that. As I said before, if you saw a screenshot of SH Downpour before it was announced it was a SH game, it would immediately remind you of Alan Wake. You knowing that Downpour is a SH game already, clouds your thinking. And for the 3rd time, no 1 said AW invented forests in a game.
im know i gonna have walk in the park, the school, the hotel, and some shity museum but stil im gonna buy because a want a horror game and there is nothing else atm
Shit man, homecoming was really not that bad honestly, and even 4 had pretty creepy monsters even if those big ass hump back twin babies were ghosts, they were still creepy an, nothing really scary about a void chasing you, an those skinny naked vagina heads on homecoming creeped me out too, come on now, they better have waaaay more than this because the monsters i looked up on this game are very uncreative and spine chilling. maybe the weeping bat thing but thats about it.
Next time you do a preview like this, please don't talk. I would have been absorbed by this preview until the woman in the background started shouting out
@xxhaydentragedyxx research it! google, there is so much info on this game. Enough to keep you interested but not enough to spoil it. They have yet to show anything past the hour mark. So they are doing a good job of keeping everything under-wraps.
@Simpleman925 SH isn't about "make you jump" scares or special effects, or set pieces like this, it's about fucking with your head through disturbing environments, creepy camera angles, and haunting soundtrack and bipolar characters
@Simpleman925 So you think they're going to change the behind the shoulder camera, the focus on melee combat, the unsuspenseful soundtrack, and the un-Silent Hill vibe?
@hipeeps549 The camera is not exactly behind the shoulder, besides, they put some camera angles like the ones in the old games, you can even see one in the vid. The focus is not on the combat, it was stated multiple times that there will be 70% exploration and 30% of the combat. The focus is on survival and exploring. You didn't even heard much of the soundtrack. What do you mean by "un-Silent Hill vibe (don't use AW comparison, that is one weak comparison)?
@hipeeps549 Yep I did. I'm willing to give this game a chance. It looks promising so far, much better than SM and Homecoming. Don't see why people bash it, they didn't even played it.
@Simpleman925 the people who bash the new SHs are the same people who bash the new REs, honestly do they realy expect Capcom or Konami to go back to the gameplay they used over 10+ years ago
resident evil's gameplay changed from survival HORROR to ACTION, which is a huge deal. while silent hill developers doesn't know what to do and remake the story of silent hill 2 over and over again.
get team silent back to work on a new game or LEAVE THE FRANCHISE ALONE.
@bloodondope i'm afraid if they "leave the franchise alone" people will lose intrest and Konami will eventualy pull a "Duke Nukem Forever"ish move and try to bring it back, but will fail miserably
What's the problem with having a behind the shoulder camera? At least this time they added fixed camera angles that made the previous games suspenseful.
Focus on melee combat > What's wrong with that? You have to admit SH 1 and 2 had real crappy fighting engine not to mention James falling down stairs, tripping when bumping on walls and the damn wooden plank unable to kill Lying figures in tight corridors was a huge fucking bitch...
Isn't limited ammo and using jerky bait wisely part of what made the first SH games suspenseful?
Unsuspenseful soundtrack? If you remember the first SH games didn't have the suspenseful tracks until at least midgame. Like the Hospital in the first SH game.
You can't judge the WHOLE soundtrack based on this preview alone.
If anything, The Room was the SH game that didn't at all feel like SH. Ghosts and fucking Walter Sullivan as a final boss. What the hell was that?
And don't go telling me: "You're not a true SH fan" or something like that because I've been playing SH1 since I was 10 and have loved SH ever since BUT acknowledge it's flaws. This combat engine only makes the game more playable while still having that Silent Hill vibe.
My favorite was SH:SM by the way and while it didn't have combat in it, it was the one that got me mindfucked the most.
You have to try games with an open mind to fully enjoy them.
If there's anything in the new SH games battle system I didn't like, it's that you don't get to stomp your enemies. That's pretty much it. But at least they made up for it by adding finishing moves. I mean you have to admit, beating up a nurse with a steel pipe, switching to your handgun, pressing down and pumping rounds on it until it dies just to get 10 stars was pretty lame.
@prettyboyjj30 its just to make the game more difficult and scarier, imagine if your weapon breaks when your on like 1 health or something you'll be like AAAAAH
Jacob's Ladder is an american horror movie, and the original makers stated that they got some of the monster ideas of of it, like how the monsters moved and so on.
that movie was a big inspiration for the Big Bad monsters, like pyramid head and Valtiel from SH2 and SH3 respectivly, I stated that the western developers watch some JapHorror flicks cause theyv'e more than likely seen the western flicks.
it'll balance out the western/eastern horror they have.
Silent Hill 1-4 and Origins are great, Shattered Memories is good, Homecoming is okay but Downpour's looking really promising!

Couldn't agree more dude, the whole 'self narration' is such a rip of Alan Wake, but i also enjoyed Alan Wake, i just hope that SH Downpour is at least mildly creepy
Team3Saiyanz 2 weeks ago
@Team3Saiyanz Earlier games had self narration, it was only in text though. Wow, they try to make character look more alive and give him personality and everyone calls it Alan Wake clone,
Simpleman925 2 weeks ago 3
@scarface1224md
Your kidding right?
Deathlock257 2 weeks ago
@Deathlock257 Main character narrates and talks to himself, open-world environment in the woods that isnt fully open-world. Same atmosphere as Alan Wake, shadowy, wooded, foggy environments. Flashlight is a main part of the game. So no I'm not kidding. No on said it's EXACTLY like Alan Wake, but anyone with common sense who played it can see many similarities. And those features are not something SH is known for, it's something Alan Wake is known for. Go troll some more comments
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md Some people were saying that Alan Wake has similar atmosphere to SH, so you're basically saying that SH looks like SH.
Simpleman925 2 weeks ago 21
@Simpleman925 Alan Wake doesnt have a similar atmosphere to SH, so those people would be wrong. Maybe your and their definition of atmosphere is different ? Atmosphere includes the scope of the game, and how it presents itself to you. Alan Wake gave you an "open-worlded" "Lost in t he woods" atmosphere, the original Silent Hill games gave you a survival horror atmosphere, with tight corridors and not knowing wat lies beyond. So no, Alan Wake doesnt have an atmosphere like SH did.
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@Simpleman925 As I said before, you can put a random screenshot of SH 1-4 next to Alan Wake and see they are entirely different games. Put a screenshot of Alan Wake next to Downpour w/o knowing which is which and you'd think they were both AW
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md Have you ever played a SH game before? Main characters also talk to themselves in SH games, there are foggy environments, there was a forest in the beginning of SH 2. Almost all SH games had flashlight and they were one of the main parts of the gameplay because you needed them to see in the dark environments. Anyone with common sense who played SH games can see many similarities with SH games and those features are some of the stuff SH is known for.
TheOriginalvsRemake 2 weeks ago 3
@TheOriginalvsRemake When I mention it has a forest setting and a foggy environment, that pertains to the majority and entirety of the game. No Silent Hill game was focused mainly in the forest or woods until Downpour. No Silent Hill game was also semi-open worlded like Downpur is. SH games always utilized the flashlight however it wasnt NEEDED like it is in Downpour. You could very ewasily go through an original SH game w/o your flashlight.
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md Downpour isn't mainly focused on woods, that's just a small part in the beginning of the game, before you go into the town. It is needed because it's dark, it's not like you can damage enemies with a flashlight. SH 1 and 2 were semi open ended. Downpour is more open ended than those though. I find Alan Wake comparisons ridiculous. It's like you compare Alone in the dark with Fatal Frame.
TheOriginalvsRemake 2 weeks ago
@TheOriginalvsRemake Downpour isnt mainly focused on woods ? Downpour of course has alot of interior places but it revolves around the rain/ outside and the semi-open-world of the woods. That's where all the side quests and missions that are available in the game are gotten to from. You seem like you don't klnow much of the details of Downpour and it's actual gameplay. The gameplay itself is nothing like previous SH games in terms of a straight forward storyline and path.
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md Woods are just a small part of the game, before you go into the town, I don't understand what you don't get with that? You could go around the town in SH 1 and even enter some buildings like the police station and the gas station, that's what makes it semi open ended. Later games like SH 3 and 4 were more linear. I know a lot of details about Downpour's gameplay, you just assumed I don't know. Just ask me something and I'm gonna show you that I know.
TheOriginalvsRemake 2 weeks ago
@TheOriginalvsRemake With your OPINIONS aside, both Alan Wake and SH Downpour are semi- open worlded games whose main setting is a huge wilderness area. Those are facts. No SH game before Downpour contained this "open-world" element nor was the setting mostly in this environment. SH was all about towns and tight corridor buildings.... Those are some more FACTS for you. And stay on topic. Noones comparing Alone in The Dark. Don't veer off topic to make your OPINION sound rite
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md Also, there's no need to be rude, I was just saying that it's silly to compare Downpour and Alan Wake, it's like you compare Fatal Frame and Alone in the dark. SH atmosphere wasn't all tight corridors, you were going around the town too. The storyline of Downpour can also be straightforward, it's your decision will you do the sidequests or not, besides SH 1 had a Kauffman sidequest, so it's not like it's something new in the series, it also had semi open world.
TheOriginalvsRemake 2 weeks ago
@TheOriginalvsRemake If you want to go thru and say that SH had a forest for a few mins in SH 2 and that it always had fog is a stupid way to avoid the obvious of how similar SH downpour resembles the look and feel Alan Wake gives. Alan Wake did not copy the look and feel of a 10 year old PS1 or PS2 game, The atmosphere Alan Wake gives isnt possible to be produced by a PS1 or PS2 Silent Hill game.
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@TheOriginalvsRemake You can play SH which is mostly indoors/tight corridors and it goves no resemblence to the Open World Lost feeling of Alan Wake. Maybe it's that I look at the atmosphere a gives gives you, maybe you're too young to see that too. Maybe you're too literal in that sense. You can put a random screenshot of SH 1-4 next to AW and see they are different games. Put one of Alan Wake next to Downpour w/o knowing which is which and you'd think they were both AW
scarface1224md 2 weeks ago
@scarface1224md and AW didn't invent forests.
TheOriginalvsRemake 2 weeks ago 3
@TheOriginalvsRemake I never said AW invented Forests did I ? I said that Downpour resembles the atmosphere of AW greatly. The "Open World" Forest is the main example of that. As I said before, if you saw a screenshot of SH Downpour before it was announced it was a SH game, it would immediately remind you of Alan Wake. You knowing that Downpour is a SH game already, clouds your thinking. And for the 3rd time, no 1 said AW invented forests in a game.

hipeeps549 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549 Can you elaborate why you think it looks like shit? And what exactly SH isn't about?
Simpleman925 3 weeks ago
@Simpleman925 SH isn't about "make you jump" scares or special effects, or set pieces like this, it's about fucking with your head through disturbing environments, creepy camera angles, and haunting soundtrack and bipolar characters
hipeeps549 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549 I think we shouldn't judge before we play it though.
Simpleman925 3 weeks ago
@Simpleman925 I think it's fair to judge a game from watching 40 minutes of gameplay.
hipeeps549 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549 Nope, they can always change some things, who says this is a final build.
Simpleman925 3 weeks ago
@Simpleman925 So you think they're going to change the behind the shoulder camera, the focus on melee combat, the unsuspenseful soundtrack, and the un-Silent Hill vibe?
hipeeps549 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549 The camera is not exactly behind the shoulder, besides, they put some camera angles like the ones in the old games, you can even see one in the vid. The focus is not on the combat, it was stated multiple times that there will be 70% exploration and 30% of the combat. The focus is on survival and exploring. You didn't even heard much of the soundtrack. What do you mean by "un-Silent Hill vibe (don't use AW comparison, that is one weak comparison)?
Simpleman925 3 weeks ago 2
@Simpleman925 ....have you played any of the other Silent Hills? Someone who has would realize this isn't what Silent Hill games are like
hipeeps549 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549 Yep I did. I'm willing to give this game a chance. It looks promising so far, much better than SM and Homecoming. Don't see why people bash it, they didn't even played it.
Simpleman925 3 weeks ago 7
@Simpleman925 the people who bash the new SHs are the same people who bash the new REs, honestly do they realy expect Capcom or Konami to go back to the gameplay they used over 10+ years ago
DeadlyFUCKINGzebra 2 weeks ago
@DeadlyFUCKINGzebra
resident evil's gameplay changed from survival HORROR to ACTION, which is a huge deal. while silent hill developers doesn't know what to do and remake the story of silent hill 2 over and over again.
get team silent back to work on a new game or LEAVE THE FRANCHISE ALONE.
bloodondope 2 weeks ago
@bloodondope i'm afraid if they "leave the franchise alone" people will lose intrest and Konami will eventualy pull a "Duke Nukem Forever"ish move and try to bring it back, but will fail miserably
DeadlyFUCKINGzebra 2 weeks ago
@bloodondope I'm pretty sure that Vatra knows what they're doing and it shows. This might be one hell of a game. :)
Simpleman925 2 weeks ago
@DeadlyFUCKINGzebra
No we just want them to bring the amazing story back! Which I think Silent Hill: Downpour and Resident Evil 6 are doing just that.
They look REALLY good :DDD
Deathlock257 2 weeks ago 2
@hipeeps549
Re1Mu2R3 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549
Re1Mu2R3 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549
Re1Mu2R3 3 weeks ago
@hipeeps549
Re1Mu2R3 3 weeks ago
@Re1Mu2R3 You can stomp the enemies in this one I think :)

from what i have seen of this, the western developers are improving in the horror aspect of this game, but they arent using silent hill horror.
they need to check out some japanese horror flicks and Jacob's Ladder, which the original series based it's horror and twitchy monster movement from.
the original protaginists remained silent during gameplay, which increased immersion, and made the player believe that s/he was the character.
they are improving, though and that is a good sign.
Bloodyidit 4 weeks ago
@Bloodyidit Just want to correct you. SH was influenced by western horror movies, not japanese. You can see some japanese influence in 4 though.
Simpleman925 4 weeks ago 11
@Simpleman925
