this performance was from when McCartney was 33 or so. Smoking and being an untrained singer who uses his voice roughly didn't help the aging of McCartney's voice.. but McCartney has always sung this song in this way even on the album in 1973 at a time when his voice was at it's peak range.
I would take Paul McCartney any day. Not just have sex with him...but marry him. Honest to God. And I'm fifteen years old. Just because of his personality and his talent and his humor and all of it...except the money and fame. I don't give a shit about that, I'd much rather not have it. I wouldn't even take Johnny Depp at Paul's age...or Ryan Gosling or Ryan Reynolds. They don't compare. I'd take Paul at 90. Because Paul is just different. He always has been and always will be. Love you <3
This guy has a bottomless pit of talent. My first thought when hearing any awesome song is what were they doing when this melody came into their mind. I would love to hear all his stories about most of his songs. Then there are the ones that he should've regreted. I think he was at his best right after the break-up.
ive watched this video so many times. and yes it is official, paul is trying to turn every sane person on by his extreme performance and orgasmic voice :D
haha jk hes not trying to, hes just soo amazing that he automatically does!
paul....i envy your amazingness, you beautiful man :)
Instead of comparing Paul to John or whomever, whatever, I think Paul has tremendous talent coupled with extraordinary drive, versatility and creativity. He has been a tremendous gift to this world. I'm glad he keeps on going.
Plus John Always had the Baggage and Issue, Of His Father leaving for the Navy and NEVER comming back. So he never had a father. Then at 6 or 7 his mother left and he went to live and be brought up by his aunt Mimi. So he was an angry wounded child, with a lot af issues later as an adult. When he was 14 he got the good news of his Mom comming back to live with him again. The afternoon of her return she was hit by a car and killed. So his adolesence was trying to say the least.
Sadly we will never know what John would have done musicially if he wasnt murdered. But Double Fantasy, had 3 or four big songs," Woman, Watching The Wheels, Beautiful Boy, Starting Over", You Wingettes, have to admit that John could write songs with the Best of them, Just Look back at his solo catalogue. Not too shabby. And John Got into thr Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Pablo....
John was always my favorite Beatle. Lennon was a Renaseance man, He was more than a musician, and an artist. He knew history and politics[ which also got him in some trouble] as we all know. But he was a pretty strong wrtter of songs too. Anyone one on this Wings board has to admit that. Paul was more of an entertainer/ showman. But my God John was taken from us so fast. He was Just catching his breath after a few years off. And it was all over in seconds, on that horrible night, in Dec 1980.
@jjs499 Paul would probably agree with you. He has said, many times "I've been a huge Lennon fan since I met him when I was 15." Paul said he was sky high when he read in a 1970's interview that John's favorite Beatle song was "Here There and Everywhere".
The reason is that it is NOT a Beatles song. This is a WINGS song. It is an insult to call it a "Beatles" song. Paul McCartney was the first to leave the band with the release of the album "McCartney" in 1970. Weeks before the release of Let it Be.Too many people refer to his music as "Beatle" music. While he was a major contributor to "The Beatles." The whole idea was for each member of the band to have successful solo careers. Sorry but it is not "Beatle" music. It is Paul McCartney and Wings!
Paul McCarntey is just awesome!! This song is great! He is my favorite singer and he was awesome in concert just a few days ago!!! He's still rockin'!
@alexzivo Paul was born to be famous through music. The guy was so talented and worked so hard for everything he got. He is amazing. While John was also talented, the man was very charismatic and was also born to be a star but in a different way. John was not even close to being as talented as Paul but he was a great performer and very likable if you don't know how mean he could be lol.
@Macca1969 I dont Agree. John was Just as talented,as a singer song writer, but Paul was a better entertainer/ showman. John Was more a Renosance Man , Hed read a lot of Books and knew about world affairs/ politics, which got him in trouble in The Nixon days. But he did do some pretty stupid things, like befriending Hughy Newton and another Black Panther whose name escapes me at the moment,As a Lyricist he was better than Paul. He got into the R&R HALL OF FAME BEFORE PAUL TOO. But 4 talents
@jjs499 Have you thought that the reason John got in the R&R HOF before Paul was because of his tragic death? If he were still alive it might be a different story. I don't want to knock John down but lyric writing was the only thing he had over Paul. Paul was better at everything else and this is the reason why Paul was still a superstar in the 70s after The Beatles and why John was struggling to stay relevant.
@Macca1969 Your soo wrong. Just about all the early hits that charted Highest: 'I wanna hold your hand " Not a second time", Help"," A hard days night" " I feel feel fine" There's a Place"," I should have known better","Girl", " Norwegean Wood", "If I fell"," Ticket to Ryde,"Im a looser", Too many to count, and i left out more from 1st 5 albums. Biggest song on Pepper, "Day in the life' was John. He had 4, 5 solo albms that contaned many hits to. He really wasnt that into writting after Breakup
@Macca1969 Plus he retired in 74 or 75 because he was sick of "The industry" So Mcartney had 5 yrs of John Not doing anything. when Double Fantasy, came out You know it had 4 or 5 hits. "Woman charted for 6 months. " Watching The wheels," Beautiful Boy" "'Starting over". All hits . His asasination had a lot to do with it, but nevertheless were solid songs. His involvement in politics was more important to him than Touring. Paul was definitly a better entertainer. It all stopped for John 12-08-80
@jjs499 Plus I see your just 25, So you werent even around in 60's, 70's or 80's, just barely. So you dont know what was going on back then. You probably dont even know many of John's solo efforts. I see i wasted my time, but mabey you will go and listen.
@jjs499 I don't really agree with you opinion but I respect it. We're not really going to convince each other to see things our way so lets just be happy that we have great music from Paul, John and The Beatles. Instead of going back and forth lets just be happy with their legendary music:)
@Macca1969 Thank you. But with all due respect, Your 25 years old/young. You dont know what was going on when the Beatles breakeup.Plus i doubt you have even heard 50% of Johns work? As a BEATLE or his SOLO Work? He was so very political in the 70's and into Peace Rallies, and attacking the Nixon Adm.Plus he was dealing with all types of therapy [ Gestalt] even wrote songs about it. I didnt like a lot of it but, John was really disinterested in the Music Industry.Lennon Was A Genius Period!!!
@Macca1969 But Mabey all those tough times made him great. They say "what doesnt kill you makes you stronger".....sadly we will never know what , more JOHN could have given to us, musically , since he was taken at 40 years old.You dont remember. his death Dominated the news for a year. It was a monumental event, in a Catastrophic way.... But Yes, they are Lengendary, and George's music was tremendous. But I dare say you dont even know who, if John Or Paul wrote a certain Beatles song.
@jjs499 Trust me, my age has nothing to do with my knowledge of what happened during the early 70 when feelings were still bitter about the breakup. I've seen plenty of Beatles documentaries and also John and Wings documentaries too. I think it's a little ignorant to question my knowledge of Beatles music just because I'm 25. Believe me my friend, I am such a huge beatles fan and I know who wrote what, who sang on what and who played what instrument. I've been knowledge hungry about the beatles
@jjs499 since I was 18. I know so much more about the band than anyone else my age. I've seen the beatles anthology and Let it be a million times. My knowledge in the Beatles and McCartney's solo work rivals and surpasses anyone who actually lived during the time. I'm just the type of person who loves knowledge about things that interest me and The Beatles and everything about them is such a big part of my life. I love The Beatles but I just happen to feel that Paul was the stonger in almost
@jjs499 every category when it comes to music when comparing him to John. Paul stayed relevant in the 70s because the man can write a catchy song. John stayed relevant because of politics and being John Lennon. John is an amazing singer/songwriter but I just feel that Paul was the more slightly talented one. To say they are equals is not fair to Paul because the man was still cracking out hits in the 70s when his career should have started dying like the other 3.
Frankly,I didnt like "Admiral Halsey, "Let him in", I'll Take" Instant Karma, #9Dream, Whatever gets u Thr, The Night" "And so this is Christmas ", any day over Pauls first 3 albums. John's xmas song l is a classic. Ist Time, new it was special. AND NOT TO MENTION "Imagine", [ s not one of my favorites] Is a signature song for John, But he had so many. You cant say John wasnt as good at melodies, or Keyboards, or Rythym Guitarist. My musician friends say Just was a vry good Rythm Guitarist.
Bit Ive come to Really like Paul, especially for his longevity, the way he is still out there,I heard him at the VH1 Tribute for the 10th aniversary of 9/11...wow his voice was as strong as it was when he was 50 yrs old. He made our generation Proud... and he thanked America, for all IIT did over the years. It was GREAT to hear that But Paul sounded sooooo good. Look John was always my fav Beatle. But look at the 4 as a whole, George was so gifted, . Ringo had a sucessfull solo career.
Finally, thats you opinion about, but you will find many people who disagree. John had a lot of emotional Baggage, but look at his childhood, Im sure you know waht happened. He was an Angry kid, teen , and young man.. But He was Great " and there will never be another group like the Beatles, I think we can all agree on that. But "Struggling to stay relevant", Your sadly mistaken. He wanted out... he had had enough by then , and as i said below Double Fantasy was loaded with good songs,
I was fortunate to see Paul McCartney live just a few days ago. At 69 he performed this song and it still was just as amazing as watching and listening to this video. He is PHENOMENAL- a legend!!!Best concert of my life!
At 2:23, he's just smoking a cigarette like its no big deal. And then proceeds to keep on singing it perfectly. Seriously. This song and this man are both genius.
@HipHopFan4Life1 Lennon fans probably disliked this. They know that anything after the Imagine album that Lennon was never able to write something as amazing as this song.
@KellyGreen5555 I wasn't dumping on Lennon. I was just saying the truth. Lennon was musically talented but his talents started to fizzle after 1973. He was more of a tv personality and that was how he was able to stay relevant in the 70s.
@DontMeanWell John Was more than Just a singer/songwriter. He had deep concerns for world issues and wasnt afraid to speak his mind. Which also got hiim in trouble with Nixons crowd. But he was a deeper thinker than just a regular rock star. Plus you guys know he was a very good artist/ sketcher. His Beatles compositions are better than Pauls IMHO. So Many. John Wrote In the 1st person so you can identify most of his Beatles sond by 'I in the title.Listen They were and are both great.
@DontMeanWell AND Paul still is dynamite. But songs like, Im a looser, Help, Girl, I feel fine,, If I fell, "A day In The Life' There's a Place, "I should have known Better, Not A second Time, Still sound great, fresh , great melodies [not to mention the harmonies] when I hear them today. Listen, This band "The Beatles" was "'the greatest" in the history of POP. THe Stars aligned just right[ as John would say] when John formed the Beatles. John Wasnt perfect. But to me he was very Special
He is so gorgeous!!!! He is so perfect, talented, handsome, nothing went wrong with him!!! He helps making the world a better place, he makes people happy, I love Paul so much........
One of my all time favs. Mac's voice was at his best during the Wings years. Had that great rasp to it. Very tough song to play and sing at the same time. Happy he resurrected this one live recently.
@alexzivo I'd actually say in the early 70s it was the other way around- John tried to tear away from the Beatles by making a completely artistic, political and non-commercial image, rather childishly making straight rock and roll and having songs with swearing and controversial statements or subjects. But that music alienated John from his audience and quickly turned him into a dated character. Paul, who had a greater musical range of ideas and a more slick, professional attitude, was better.
@Timjr1118 Actually Paul doesn't really care for her. He just has to get alone with her especially when it comes to the business at Apple. So it would be nice if you would get your facts right first :)
@TehGamingWinners Nah, I meant what I wrote. He still has the range (low to high) , but at near 70 I'm not hearing any of this type of singing from him on his latest albums (CD's for you young'uns) or live performances.
I'm just glad I was around to see and hear him live in '75. 3rd row center!
Next to the song Band On The Run, this is my 2nd favorite from the album. This is a real to hear an intro piano version and it goes to show what an excellent piano player Paul is.
OMG, was just reminded why I loved this guy for most of my teens. He was kind of cute. Love this song, too. It's one of Paul's best, and probably written with Linda in mind... ( just guessing).
Paul McCartney made this song after Wings had been reduced to a threesome including himself, his wife and drummer. This left Paul to take on the roles of vocals, guitar, bass and keyboard himself. This is what he created. A true testament to himself as a musician.
I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. After seeing it many times on Trigger Happy TV, I wanted to find this. My dad was watching some documentry about the wings and I found the title of the song <333

At 2:23, he's just smoking a cigarette like its no big deal. And then proceeds to keep on singing it perfectly. Seriously. This song and this man are both genius.

who the helllllll disliked this!!! obviously someone that does not appreciate music!!! Jerks!!!
HipHopFan4Life1 7 months ago 2
@HipHopFan4Life1 Lennon fans probably disliked this. They know that anything after the Imagine album that Lennon was never able to write something as amazing as this song.
Macca1969 7 months ago
@Macca1969 C'mon. John Lennon was a genius on many levels. Why must you dump on Lennon when praising the equally talented McCartney? Infantile.
KellyGreen5555 6 months ago 2
@KellyGreen5555 I wasn't dumping on Lennon. I was just saying the truth. Lennon was musically talented but his talents started to fizzle after 1973. He was more of a tv personality and that was how he was able to stay relevant in the 70s.
Macca1969 6 months ago
@Macca1969 Lennon got too involved in politics and people are not fans of politics in songs.
DontMeanWell 6 months ago
@DontMeanWell John Was more than Just a singer/songwriter. He had deep concerns for world issues and wasnt afraid to speak his mind. Which also got hiim in trouble with Nixons crowd. But he was a deeper thinker than just a regular rock star. Plus you guys know he was a very good artist/ sketcher. His Beatles compositions are better than Pauls IMHO. So Many. John Wrote In the 1st person so you can identify most of his Beatles sond by 'I in the title.Listen They were and are both great.
jjs499 5 months ago
@DontMeanWell AND Paul still is dynamite. But songs like, Im a looser, Help, Girl, I feel fine,, If I fell, "A day In The Life' There's a Place, "I should have known Better, Not A second Time, Still sound great, fresh , great melodies [not to mention the harmonies] when I hear them today. Listen, This band "The Beatles" was "'the greatest" in the history of POP. THe Stars aligned just right[ as John would say] when John formed the Beatles. John Wasnt perfect. But to me he was very Special

Paul, who had a greater musical range of ideas and a more slick, professional attitude, was better.

definitely, Macca at his best! Love the editing too...

BeatleGirlP 9 months ago 40
@Timjr1118 Actually Paul doesn't really care for her. He just has to get alone with her especially when it comes to the business at Apple. So it would be nice if you would get your facts right first :)
codeorangeXC 9 months ago
fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul was "better" than John making songs, because he looked at songs as entertainment instead of art, like John did.
Ogdor 9 months ago
@Ogdor So, no one is better than the other. They are just two diferent ways of living music.

TehGamingWinners 10 months ago
@TehGamingWinners Nah, I meant what I wrote. He still has the range (low to high) , but at near 70 I'm not hearing any of this type of singing from him on his latest albums (CD's for you young'uns) or live performances.
I'm just glad I was around to see and hear him live in '75. 3rd row center!

@Sungodv Lucky you. I was 5, I could not. But I've seen him 8 times since 1990!!!!!

Paul McCartney made this song after Wings had been reduced to a threesome including himself, his wife and drummer. This left Paul to take on the roles of vocals, guitar, bass and keyboard himself. This is what he created. A true testament to himself as a musician.
