This is fantastic. I just went to my first (in 23 or 24 years) gymnastics lesson earlier this week and had so much fun. I can't wait to go back and play some more.
@mindyschocolate Congrats! I always wanted to do well on bars, but I never had enough strength to do it. I also couldn't do a hip circle unless I had a spot. Isn't it fun to fly though? :)
@Temptresstoo it's pretty fun, but my taps swings still need a ton of work. Everytime I go back, I tend to bend my knees, and I have to regrip, but I always start to peel off by my third "tap"- if you want to call it that, lol. I should record myself to see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. I won't go into my casts, lolol. Those kids make it look so easy! I'm afraid of pitching over the bar. I'd like to be able to jump to high bar if I can get myself to stand on the low bar
@mindyschocolate Yeah, it's a lot of mental stuff, that's for sure. Jumps to high bar aren't too bad if you can think of them as a quick transition. Get up there and go, don't wait and hang around to balance. Even elite gymnasts have a hard time balancing a stand on a bar (just look at Vanessa Atler). I would get my feet on there and straighten up as I was already focused on the high bar and making the leap (which isn't a huge leap, it just feels that way). Anyway, congrats again!
@jfluter Well, falling isn't really a big deal considering the amount of mats you have underneath you. Plus, for most stuff you work on the floor beam for a while until you are comfortable to move it up to the regulation level. Best of luck!
Thanks for posting the video! Honestly, I didn't know that beginning adults gymnastics existed until very recently, and totally want to take a class for fun. As a kid, I wanted to be an Olympic gymnastic or figure skater, depending on which Olympics were showing. I decided to fulfill the dream of ice skating this year, and have been absolutely loving it. Now, I want to add onto that and give gymnastics a try. So, I contacted a local gym, and hope to take my first class this summer.
I understand about wanting the grips! I was taking adult gymnastics, had to quit due to joining the military, and just now got back into doing it last night after like 3 years. My hands had tenderized during that time, so when I got back on the bars, I got rips just from doing a few pullovers! Lolol, my hands felt like I dipped them in a vat of acid. I may break down and get grips too, but maybe I'll wait a bit longer to get my palms to toughen up.
@mindyschocolate I was a serious gymnast back in the late 70's, we never used hand grips. Even while practicing giants on bars... We sure built up some BIG TIME calloused hands. Sometimes huge blood blisters covering my entire palm. We used to do what was called semi-circles on the bars just to rip the skin off the blisters. Yes, ouch and quite disgusting. Then scraping all the blood off of the bars with sand paper!! Yes, I would suggest you get grips, takes too long to toughen up those hands!!
You also do ballet at 29? Wooooohhh!!!!!! You are amazing. You don't know when to stop do you? I hope you do well this weekend. Are you going to post your recital so I could take a look at it? It would be really cool. Your video was impressive.
@carlosgmdbfg I'm older than that now...presently I'm 32. :) Not that you'll be able to see much from a distance, but I'm going to try and post the adult recital piece.
You were 29 at the time? I thought you were 21. You look so young. I am going to use these videos as inspiration. I am 27 years old and have thought about taking swimming classes even though I have no experience in swimming whatsoever. Are you going to post more videos of this?
@carlosgmdbfg Yes, 29...what can I say, good clean living. :D
I actually switched passions. I went back to ballet which, after having the baby, helped to give me more of a long, lean look. I have my first ballet recital this weekend and that is pretty exciting. :)
I still love gymnastics and am a huge fan. I just can't afford both. :)
I'm sixteen years old and I'd like to try some gymnastics, just for fun. But I know I'm too old to start training. I loved that there are these things for adults who like this sport!
Oh I know, not for the skills themselves, but to protect my hands, I do. I had regular palm guards for a while, but I was still ripping. Grips helped with the rips from just an adult recreational viewpoint.
Its cool that you still keep it up! I'm 16 and I love gymnastics but its so much harder when you are a bit older. The girls in my group are all about 9 or 10 and find it so easy! You are really good!
This is cool to see. I am 30 but took some gymnastics as a kid for about a year or so. I still can do some of the beginning and intermediate stuff. I'd love to go t a local gym and practice. I was good at vault. Do you do any vaulting? Also, do you use anything fo support you knees?
Actually, last night's class we did vaulting. I'd imagine you vaulted on the old horses, these days, they have those Pegasus vaults that are huge and intimidating (although safer). I don't have any knee issues, so I don't use any knee supports. Just regular warmups to get ready.
WOW. Compared to your first video, this is amazing! I had to cheack to make sure it was the same girl - you're an inspiration!
How long did you have to work to get this good? How often did you train? I want to get back into gymnastics but don't want to look a complete fool for being really rusty!
There is a month and a half between video one and video two. I was taken class twice a week. I do encourage you to try. I miss it so much (I had a baby this past April).
Sacramones performance was terrible during the olympics and was the reason why Team USA lost. With that kind of performance and still made it to the national team, I wonder how many coaches did she have to sleep with in order to get the spot. Her ass is so fat, I think her ass is at least 20 pounds extra compared to her teammates. That was why she brought down Team USA. Stupid bitch should go to Jenny Craig. Alicia will go down as the worst, and most disgraceful gymnast in Olympic history.
I wish I stayed in the states. Over here in my country, I haven't seen any adult gymnastic classes. I'm currently 23 and I was suppressed by my dad to learn the sport. I always believed I had a talent in gymnastics. I still remember asking to learn it when I was 7 and I got scolded for it. I can only do the cartwheel which I learned on my own by watching other kids doing it. I've maintained good flexibility and coordination through dancing. After watching your video,I'm truly inspired!
I know i'd be good on the floor or rather rythmic i have great fleicibility but also im a figure skater i was thinking of gymnastics to learn some new tricks i could add to my skating
I love watching other adults do gymnastics. Currently, I am the only one at the gym my daughter attends and wish that others would join me. I am 31 and recently decided to join. It has gotten to the point that I work out with the 8' & 9's.
I can still do series (handspring, handspring) on low beam with spot, a kip by myself, handspring on vault. Right now I am working on kip cast handstand to free hip to handstand. I love it and wish you the best of luck......
I'm really inspired to start up gymnastics again. I'm 28 (as old as you are in the video!) and can't wait to be able to learn and relearn some of the things I used to know! I did gym at age 4 and then 7-8 and then a little here and there, but I never seemed to get past a "wall" - I want to do a back walkover and a back handspring the most!
That's fantastic! I'm 36 and I'm going back to gymnastics TONIGHT...haven't done it since I was a teenager. But I started dance class (bellydance) 4 years ago and now I'm in a troupe in NYC, so anything is possible! This video is a total inspiration, thanks. :)
Nice work! I'm a gymnastics coach and did some gymnastics when I was little but started climbing tissue when I was 36. Do you have your back hip circle on bars? I used to teach adults in private lessons and want to get a gym started for anyone who wants to learn gymnastics. Just do your best and keep up the good work!
Wow i never knew about adult gymnastics! Im 17 and just started gymnastics(when i was little i took gymnastics for fun not serious) now that im older i really wanted to try it again and i get to compete level 4 in sept im so excited i can't wait. this video gives me hope that no matter how old i am i can do gymnastics!
im 24 and i still do gymnastics, very impressive that you started as an adult. i started gym when i was 6, but i now do tumbling and sport acrobatics. keep up the good work!!
Nope. Something I always wanted to do. My Mother wouldn't let me try. So, as an adult...at age 28, I started taking adult gymnastics. Much better than running on a treadmill. :D
I always wanted to take it too! I just started about a month ago. I'm 24. I don't have a camera (yet) but when I do I'll post. And you're right, way better than the treadmill.
thats great. its awesome to take gymnastics to stay in shape. and age doesn't matter. skill does and you definatly have potential. check out my videos. i love gymnastics too. i always wanted to start earlier but my mom wouldn't let me either. she'd say its too dangerous. but now that i'm 14 years old i get to start. so dunt forget to check ma videos

I just got my front hip circle! Bars is improving, along with front tumbling. Still suck at beam though :-/, but very happy with bars.

There are a bunch more on my channel. I think 5 or 6 in total. I used to do one montage of clips at the end of every gymnastics term.
I'm back in the gym after having a baby, so I'll be doing more of these soon.
