  • @merocket Its about the music i grew up listening to as a kid in the 80's here in Texas. THRASH METAL is all I listen to. The solos, machine gun drums, bangin speed bass guitar, all that B A stuff. Pantera, Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Annihilator, Obituary, Megadeth, Sadus, Agressor, and (1981-1989) Metallica. when your a true Thrash Metal fan back my day, it was difficult listening to the change in the band when Bob came in. After they dump Bob, Death Magnetic came out, it was Bad Ass!

  • long live to jason newsted!! \m/

  • he sounds like he's a music teacher :P

  • Maybe he's not the greatest bass player ever, but he's an awesome musician, thank you Jason, we miss you.

  • Metallica owes it to Jason to have him make an appearance at their Black Album performance this summer and have him play this, seriously after all the years of hazing and being treated like he wasn't really in the band.

  • What sucks is in May Metallica will be playing the black Album in it's entirety and Jason won't be able to play this song live with them

  • my subwoofer is going crazy

  • @twiztidlestat at what cost dude.... he took away their thrash metal status and made them a world wide "Product" ...not very metal

  • Dear Jason, sadly this generation doesn't have anything to give to music, but shit.

  • @92culo I respectively disagree.

  • Its a lost im not able to overcome yet. I need you back!!!

  • He looks like Adrian Smith here with short hair

  • You can see that it really did annoy him how James and Lars smacked him in the face again. First when they took out the bass in AJFA then completely changing My Friend of Misery from an instrumental.

  • Jason Newkid is the best !!! :)

  • For that Era of Metallica, My friend of Misery was one of their heavier better songs they wrote.

I ditched Mettalica durring the black / load years.... they lost that edge they used to have... Misery was a diamond in the rough durring those years

  • @stopallot They lost it once Jason left.

  • @LordVerdo Fuck you black album fanboy

  • @taylabrain Nah, actually my favorite album is And Justice for All along with Ride the Lightning,

  • i play bass because of this guy. jason in the man!

  • Jason: 3:04

Me: You don't know who is Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers or Tokio Hotel

  • Maybe not an instrumental, but it did turn out great Jaseon!

  • coooollll!!!!!!!1111

  • What year is this video from?

  • Every time I watch this I think he seems very sad!

  • Jason Newsted , you're still the best in my eyes ..great job with your music !

  • i used to hate jason newstead, but after i saw this video and heard the bass solo, now i think he's the most important bassist metallica has ever had :D

  • Sad loss for us the fans, but they are now where they want to be...so be it.

  • is it just me or does anyone think this would sound better fingerpicked. I feel like the pick is too percussive for the the flow of the line

  • @metalfool4295 Just you

  • @metalfool4295 The pick allows this man to beat the beast.

  • Jason Newsted is fucking awesome

  • this bass solo shouldve been the instrumental track

  • this is proof that jason wasnt the sellout

  • the way he talks..i cant desribe

  • i think Metallicas worst mistake was Bob Rock

  • @dickcheese663 Watch a Year and half in the life of Metallica, so u can understand ;)

  • @dickcheese663 yeah you got that right bob rock doesn't rock wasn't metallica producing there own albums before they met the "legendary" bob rock

  • @slipknot789able no Flemming Rasmussen was the producer for ride-justice, they should have kept him as producer, he is a Master at making them sound like Gods

  • @dickcheese663 Rick Rubin was responsible for the travesty that was Death Magnetic. The most over compressed piece of garbage ever.

  • @brpadington agreed!

  • @dickcheese663 Yes, Bob Rock used to be the worst Metallica's mistake, but then Lou Reed came. He's the winner.

  • @dickcheese663 I couldn't agree more.

  • @dickcheese663

Yeah, because creating an album like the Black album, which made them world wide icons, made them legends, and ushered in their walk into the hall of fame...Yeah...worst mistake.

  • @dickcheese663 Bandwagon idiot. You want to blame someone for shitty music? How about the ones who wrote it.

  • @merocket you do what your told. I just find it hard to believe that they went from Damage Inc, Leper Messiah, Shortest Straw, Trapped Under Ice.....to the unforgiven and nothing else matters and no instrumentals . Just sayin

  • @dickcheese663 "Just sayin" Fuck, I can just see you shrugging your shoulders and turning your stupid head sideways as you say that. *douche chills*. I find it ironic that the idiot who's telling me that I "do what I'm told" is the one with the same bandwagon opinion as millions of other moronic Metallica 'fans'. What do you think happened? Do you think Bob Rock secretly wrote all the later material? You think he put James under his spell? You fucking loon.

  • @dickcheese663

    Yeah right.

The Black Album is in the top 50 of most sold albums in the whole world. What a big mistake.

I used to be all into early Metallica too, in fact I can play their whole first 4 albums on guitar. Now I realized there's alot more interesting music. The only albums from Metallica I listen to these days are Load and ReLoad. Nice and relaxing.

If I want some power I get Sadus or Pantera. If I want technical songwriting I pick Death or Cynic... Open your mind.

  • @dickcheese663

I think sticking to 1 genre only and claiming it's better than other music is boring and superficial. Thats's what I want to say. But I dont really care, it's your loss :).

Man, recently I've been all into Eminem and Tupac, but also Layne Staley (RIP). Fuck others, I listen for myself.

  • James may be an amazing guitarist but he was such an idiot for not letting Jason have more of a say in the writing process while he was still there.

  • This would be a sick 4-minute bass solo that could be on the Black Album, just like Anesthesia but imo even better.

  • Jason 4ever

  • I get him... they only used half of the riff... He's annoyed that they treated him different.

  • He wasn't Burton, but he was a great bass player. Can't help feel he got the shaft in Metallica.

  • @sgoodell99 Agreed dude.

  • Doesn't anyone find it funny that when Jason was a part of Metallica everyone ripped on him "Oh he uses a pick he's not as good as Cliff blah blah blah" But when he leaves everyone says how much they miss him. It 's how the saying goes - you don't know what you have till it's gone.

  • @Jonnerz26 i agree with you man, the man is a living master, things changed now, i never watch Metallica post 2001, but when it comes to the 2009 Hall of fame induction here i can click to watch, hope to see jason playing for the 30th anniversary concert

  • Jason!!!!!!

  • No wonder he always played it like that during his bass solos.

  • de k año es este dvd???

  • @MrSupertroncatss 2000-2001

  • @metallicaandkornrock aaa ok gracias :D

  • this would have been a great instumentall but not just bass, even Cliff had lars and what not jump in on his track on kill'em all.

  • this would have been a sick instrumental

  • he was right, mfom should be INSTRUMENTAL.. no offense but other instruments just fucked up that beautiful bass tone

  • No accident that Jason was part of the Metallica in its prime. Check out live footage of Milton Keynes 1993 - to think that they almost split that night through burn out, yet Jason gave 200% that night on vocals and bass!! I have nothing against Robert Trujillo, but it saddens me to watch that documentary where Lars and James buy in a session bassist to just play bass and shut up because they didn't like Jason trying to write music or influence artistic direction of their music!

  • jajaja mero ritmo de Nostalgia, de nocturnal depression

  • It's a real shame Jason isn't in Metallica anymore. Really, you couldn't find a better fit. I still have a lot of time for this man.

  • The song is really bad with the the lyrics compared to the instrumental version

  • Newsted was better than Burton. No disrespect but he was. Cliff played bass more like it was 6 string guitar. He could solo like crazy & it would sound like a Hammett solo lol. I love Cliff but I get the feeling when I listen to him that he was on the wrong instrument. Jason is pure bass groove. You'll barely see him do anything flashy & he was a better fit for where the band was going.

  • @nkyryry your gay for saying that.

  • A man I'd love to meet one day...

  • Jason is pure soul, I really like him. :)

  • this song is why I play bass.

  • @underoathhxc this song is why I want to learn to play the bass....

  • @underoathhxc this song inspired me too man!!!

  • someone quick tab this

  • i love his bass.. the tone and the physical looks.. can anyone tell me which one is it? (i'm not really a bassist i'm a lead guitarist so i dont have much indepth knowledge of basses)

  • I play bass and I know this part and basically all he did was take the shapes in cliffs solo on kill em all and then changed them cause I know how to play cliffs solo too he just rearranged the ideas he is such a joke

  • @AxlTerry94 I play bass too and I know you're a cockwad.

  • @AxlTerry94 Fuck you, jason is just as original as cliff burton, sure cliff was amazing but that doesnt mean we got to beat on jason

  • It's very sad indeed that so many people feel they must belittle this man.

This guy is a true artist, you can see it in his eyes. A very deep man.

Perhaps it's too much for some people to get to grips with?

An area most people can't *reach*, so they feel they have to lash out...

  • jason is the master this was supposed to be a instrumental which i think wouldve been a great way to honor cliff burton because the instrumentals were inspired by cliff

  • Jason is completely out of this world, he is a bass monster. And check this out his backup vocals in seattle's '89 gig, just fucking awesome.

  • he focking left the band!! period, exclamation point!! he dose not deserve any respect, nah im just kidding, he is a great musician

  • Those last 20 seconds you can see he is about to cry ....

    What a great bassist

  • I love this instrumental version and The Cunning Stunts version. If only Lars and James gave Jason a chance and made My Friend of Misery the way it was intended. The album version of My Friend of Misery was not that great.

  • is he using a rickenbacker

  • @IISomething1 no he's using a fender jazz bass by the look of it

  • @irishmonster100 bro, The master Jason is using sadowsky Bass guitars, You can google Jason's Gears and you'll find out it's a sadowsky black vintage up to 6 strings, and he's playing with alembic europa cut 4, 5 UP TO 6 strings customized, ESP up to 12 strings, FENDER, WAL Bass and acoustic guild, cheerz.

  • @khaledjouma im quite aware of the fact he uses sadowsky basses but i was thinking with the cover over the neck pickup and the finger rest that its most likely a fender jazz but i could be wrong i was speaking in terms of this video

  • @irishmonster100 welcome bro, it's a fact that 90 % of metallica fan are not interested with the band after jason departure, if you check through out the 80's till 2001 those years are the golden era, i guess you do agree with me the monkey rob will never fit's in there no matter how hard he'll try to do so, Jason rules he got the soul of an artist and being humble, cheers bro i do play bass, and im using yamaha gray 6 strings.

  • @khaledjouma ya i dont listen much to death magnectic and st.anger sucks. But i also dont listen to load/reload either

  • @IISomething1 no he's using a precision bass

  • Imagine that bass riffs as an intro for the black album, it could have made that album like ten times better

  • I wish it wud have been an instrumental, the song is good the way it is but I always change the song once all the bass riffs end

  • thumbs up to those who agree cliff and jason were WAAAYYYY better than rob with metallica!!!

  • at the end his expressions are weird, like he wants to say something else instead of what he said, you can tell by his face.

  • pobre jason espero a q su gran sentimiento de tristesa y dolor como se veia en este video pronto pueda desaparecer el es un gran bajista su historia en la banda es muy triste ademas para mi el esta de segundo en los mejores bajistas despues de cliff...

  • He sounds so sad when he talks about it not turning into a instrumental.

  • Jason looks sad at the end

  • the part from 1:06 is great i cant believe lars and james didnt use it up

  • i love this riff and even learned to play it. its a great piece of bass mastery that many bassists including me have learned from

  • i wish they did an instrumental for black album

  • haha he has smoked some..

  • I love Metallica and all of their members, but the whole thing with what happened to Jason really makes me sad. He is a great bassist. Maybe not as technically insane as Cliff, but he feels more right than Trujillo in Metallica. It's terrible that James and Lars were such jerks to him, and while I want to tell them that, they were practically kids, it would've been hard for them to be mature about it. But since I'll never see Cliff, Jason is my favorite of the bassists. He's a great guy.

  • The middle Made Me have to wash my pants :P

  • HOLY SHIT I JUST MISSED THE LIKE BUTTON IM SO SORRY

  • E Flat tuning sounds much more melodic in this case.

  • metallica is awsome in every way, but there is something to be said about them, they sure do know how to pick there bass players

  • You don't really see it right here at the end but he is about to cry i think :(

  • the worst mistake of metallica was when they lose a big part of their soul, and that part was Jason.

  • Comment removed

  • @ArtQuakedoom95x4 I agree with the first part, Jason's departure was a terrible thing to happen to Metallica. But it was not a mistake on Metallica's behalf. Jason leaving was his decision, not James' or Lars' or Kirk's..

  • @ArtQuakedoom95x4 true he is an amazing bassist, but when they got into the spirit again, they brought out a kickass album with rob!!! Death Mgnetic

  • @KobyFitzsimons

    Rick Rubin produced that.

  • jason was the only personality i liked in metallica, all the rest are dicks and cry babies

  • I think that there should be 2 bass players in metallica, jason and robert

  • @yodafanyodafan If I had anyone in a band dead and alive I would have : Chuck Schuldiner (lead and rhythm guitar and vocals), Cliff Burton (bass guitar), Dimebag Darrel Abbot (lead and rhythm guitar) and Gar Samuelson (drums)

  • What a giant Metallica lost...Fuck James and Lars for not giving him the space he deserved...

  • this is beautiful

  • i love how the spanish subtitles are all incorrect with the accents xD most of the ones here arent even used in spanish

  • no Jason = NO Metallica

  • @boozhwatrash + robert = metallica again ;)

  • anyone have good tabs for it pls

  • you are the best man!!!better for new man in metallica!!

  • what's the title of this documentary?

  • awww poor jason didnt get his instrumntal on the black album. What a shame. So stuck in the past and probably always will be.Its a shame he had potential. But now we have a true musician/bass player in the band with Robert. So people need to move on and get over it.Stop dwelling on shit you can't control! Remember,Metal is about breaking boundaries and bringing the outsiders in and raping their eardrums until they are converted!!

  • oh jason. i hope he is happy today. dude i really wish you are happy. you are amazing, and you deserve peace of mind and tranquility everywhere with everything you do.

  • album negro xD!

  • konuşma laaan

  • it is so sad to see how he was ignored by the other members.

he could have contributed much more and still be with the band today instead of that ape.

    que triste

  • @doramason either you can go on bitching about how it went down or you can shut up and appreciate it that he was in the band at all. Cliff's awesome, Jasonsons Awesome, and Robs Awesome. And if you dont think so. fuck off.

  • I still wish Jason was in Metallica.. Metallica never play this..

  • @834Metallica1 NO fuckin` way ... Anyway, Jason is Jason

  • fuck i would love if jason were the leader of the band and not lars and james

  • My Friend of mysery of more beautiful as a instrumental.

it's sad that black album has no instrumental.

  • sickest bassline of fucking all time

  • the bass intro reminds me off overburdened by disturbed

  • @moko9hoko only problem with that is metallica kicks ass and disturbed sucks ass lol

  • @UnearthAlex no im a big fan of disturbed as well as metallica so dont talk shit until you've heard more than one song by the band

  • @moko9hoko oh ive heard more than one song by disturbed. and they are all equally terrible. disturbed is like a failure of a nu metal band. butt rock is all they are

  • @UnearthAlex there not nu metal at all and never will be there heave metal/hard rock

  • @moko9hoko dude i hate to burst your bubble but disturbed is in the same category of clowns as slipknot. they're garbage and in no way heavy metal. you want an example of heavy metal these day listen to bury your dead, unearth, august burns red etc. thats metal. you can maybe classify disturbed as light/mid heavy rock at most

  • @UnearthAlex first the bands u listed arent heave metal there thrash like metallica(or all the big 4) and yes disturbed is a very good band slipknot sucks dick in all ways possible (with the exceptions of a few song).

  • What's the deal with square onscreen?

  • gran video bro

lastima q casi no comenta gente habla hispana

supogo q ya no les interesa lo q se llama musica 5-5

  • Is it just me, or did Jason seem bitter long time before he left Metallica?

  • to bad he left he fitted more than rob...

  • i wish i knew how to play that entire thing, but i cant

  • this is guy is pure soul :D

  • I got into metallica in '90, so for me, this cat is the man. I love his style, I love his sense of melody and countermelodies, and man, his backup vocals and live presence... Larger than life, yet so down to earth.

  • @adenosintrifosfat you love him so much you even have the same usage of the word ''cat'':D:D:D cheers dude! Jason is the man!

  • @adenosintrifosfat : I agree, I love this man's eyes and everything else u mentioned, his backup vocals were amazing, you can see that clearly in the S&M concert.

  • Sounds so good

  • I could listen to that bass line all day, man...

  • he already sounds resentful about the other band members... and this is years before they spilt up.

  • THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS THE INSTRUMENTAL

  • jason eres el mejor despues de cliff

  • This man was born to make music what a beautiful soul he is way underrated

  • ...now that is some sound to come out of a bass o_O

  • damn, at the end he sounds like if he wants to cry :''( man i love jason, he is zillllion times better than rob the gorilla.

  • any tabs or music sheep for this version ???

  • great bloke, you really see his dedication to music.

  • great bloke, you really see his dedication to music

  • sounds amazing.

  • jason is the only original memeber of metallica the others like james lars and kirk are shit they sells! whit bob cock

  • I'd love to see Jason re-joining Metallica. To me, he belongs more to Metallica than Robert - nothing's wrong with Robert though, but Jason has my vote.
