I love hummingbirds! That is genuinely "laugh out loud" funny... I've never seen 'em swarming a feeder like that... my favorite moments are when a bird circles the feeder like he's on a merry-go-round... that was LOL! Seriously! Very cool stuff. Thanks.
@Matt63368 See the "tackle" at :58... then the circle around at 1:13... *laughing*... those wacky birds. That's it... I'm adding another feeder to my backyard.
sorry for this dumb question but, are hummingbirds summer birds? Can I put one of these in my yard now, in new york? Do hummingbirds even exist in New York? I've never seen them. OK, that was three dumb questions, sorry.
@5277407 Check out a hummingbird sighting map (via search engine); they'll show you when you can expect to begin seeing the hummers. Put one out around that time and keep it out until the end of fall migration. Looks like you get blessed with Ruby-throat, among others.
A few important things: find a good feeder that is easy to clean, change the "nectar" every 4-7 days and clean/rinse the reservoir, and don't use red dye. You can make your own...4:1 water to sugar ratio.
If you get more then 1 feeder you might see them stay longer. The little devils love to fight so having a few is better then 1. Cute little buggers though.
