  • This is almost exactly the same procedure for the focus.

  • Can you follow this video for the back struts? I know the back seat has to be removed but is it all the same in general?

  • @bleachell The basics may be similar. There are only a couple of bolts at the top and the bottom that hold them in place.

  • Dang, I was just looking at struts/shocks on eBay from these guys. Might buy them in the next few days.

  • You make this look easy....great video....I have a 1995 mercury mystique with basically the same set up, I am replacing the strut and spring and i am having a heck of a time with it. Just seems like there is not enough give in the knuckle to get the strut back in once i have the tab in the slot..any help here?..I've actually compressed and wired spring to get enough room but still wants to fight me.is there a trick or step i'm missing?

  • @dramphor You should be able to remove the spring just like the video shows.

  • @1aauto ,,thanks,,

  • @1aauto ,,can a lift kit be installed on a 2001 ford taurus se?..if so how?,,

  • @babiboib7 I haven't seen one made for that vehicle.

  • those are some nice jack stands you have

  • I Have a 2001 Toyota Camry, How do I Take off the front Struts?

  • @HectorlopzD We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this repair on that particular vehicle. However you should be able to remove the tire and unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle and then unbolt the top of the strut from the top of the strut tower.Hope this helps.

  • hey my car is low and it feels like if it doesnt have springs because the previous owener change the suspencion well the problem is that my front tires touch with the car and they are wasting fast could i buy some higher ones will that solve the problem?

  • @dgaleno2012 If the front struts are gone, you may want to replace them, and then have the truck aligned.

  • I have an '03 Im getting ready to change the front struts, I have the full bolt on assembly with the pre compressed springs.. my only question is.. how soon after the install is an alinement needed? im told I would need one soon after wards so it wouldnt chew up my tires or damage anything. I have never changed fronts only rear.

  • @wantanz26 It should be done as soon as possible, so that the front tires do not get worn out unevenly.

  • Just finished installing two front struts purchased from 1aauto on a 2006 Sable. Had every problem talked about here. This is a very physical job. I did not have a spring compressor but it would have saved hours if I did. Heat from a propane torch was enough to get the strut bolts out. I purchased new bolts and nuts from the dealer because 1a does not stock. I used a floor jack and a 2x4 wedged up under the struts to get just a little compression to remove and install struts.

  • HOW do you remove the strut from the steering knuckle?? I have an 01 sable, and CANNOT pound the knuckle off. Mike

  • @Allanaharis You should be able to remove is as the video shows. If you can't seem to get enough room to pull the strut out you could also try a spring compressor. You can usually rent them from the local parts store. They should come right out as the video shows though.

  • Removed 2003 front driver side strut no problem from watching the video. Bought a quick strut assembly (locally) and it was too long to fit. Anchored top 3 nuts and bottom of strut is lower than the steering knuckle. (boo) Noticed when you compared the old strut to the new strut (vertically) the new one is longer than old one. You guys reinstalled the existing strut which is slightly shorter - which makes the install easier. I have the control arm pushed all the way down any suggestions?

  • Same problem here as posted a few other times. The knuckle will not go low enough for the strut to come out. Seems like it's just a half inch or short of coming out. Cannot for the life of me get it out. All the bolts are removed. Help!

  • Nice video. I thought it would be as easy as the video but surprise, it wasn't. Wrestled the new one on the passenger side, could not get the driver side on, have to go get some spring compressors or no go. Will keep you posted.

Also, could not remove the lower bolt on driver side for the life of me. PB, heat, ponding with 5 lb. hammer, no go. Bent back lower "loop" on new strut-not messin with it. Wonder how service garage tech remove a steel bolt from an alum. oxidized casting??

  • Great video. Helped me out a lot. I have a 2003 Taurus. But unlike the other guys, I am having a problem re-installing the strut. It just seems to be about a half inch too long. I do have the correct replacement. I can't push the hub hard enough to force the strut into the split mount. Any ideas? Thank you very much and please keep the videos coming.

  • @gooberz01 when reinstalling, sometimes it can be easier to get one of the upper strut mount bolts started first before any of the others to help line things up. A jack under the spindle can bring the lower mounting points into place

  • Same as the other guys, I whack away with a hammer until the lower A arm is as low as it'll go and the strut can still has another inch to go before it'll slip out of the compression sleeve. I even tried compressing the spring which still didn't allow enough room to slip it out. 2001 mercury sable, essentially the same as the taurus. This is driving me nuts!

  • what are struts for? wow i never saw one before but i got charged to put two on my old car once. now i know what it looks like to fix and i will ask for my parts as well

  • @WonderWomanFan4life Struts are a shock/Spring assembly. They help to absorb the bumps in the road.

  • @1aauto

Oh SWEEET. I already know that i wont be doing that looks to difficult but i just want to know about it for my own personal information .sounds so interesting and fun. I should have taken an auto shop class. now i would love to have one of those things at my house where you can lift the car up in the air. What's that called? Ok i love that red car convertible so nice. What type of car is that? thanks for answering TTYL thanks 4 GREAT videosi am going to watch all of them

  • I want to thank you for your video it was very informative and is going to help me save alot of money God Bless

    Manuel

  • @orrantiam Thank you for checking us out Manuel. We sell those shocks for your vehicle on our main website 1aauto.com all of our parts include free shipping also.

  • Same as Aspencade - lower A-arm hits the bottom of the frame cutout before the strut can clear. No bolts or lines in the way. Looks like it needs to go about another inch. Do I need to get rougher with it by pulling harder on the top?

Great videos though - keep it up!!

  • @mms156 I placed a jack under the sub frame, removed the sub frame bolts front and rear, then lowered the jack and that finally gave me enough clearance to easily remove the struts. Do one side at a time so you don't affect alignment. On my 2000 Taurus I had to unbolt the bottom plastic filler under the rad to access the front bolt on the subframe, not a hard job at all.

  • Excelent video.. can someone do the rear struts? no where can i find that video.

  • @davidisdivad Thank you for checking us out. As of right now we do not have a video on the rear strut install.

  • Thanks for the video, i'll probably tackle this in a few days. this method, i dont need to compress any springs, new or old, correct?

  • @deggenbe If you buy the loaded struts on our site you DO NOT need to compress any springs.

  • straight foward and informative vid. nice job.

    ty- keep them coming

  • these videos should have so many more views! fantastic thank you so much

  • How OK is it to let the disc/steering knuckle dangle and pull on the axle? Can it pull the axle out of the transmission and cause damage?

  • @DarrenRBaker The axle is designed to pullout of the trans so the only risk you run is getting trans fluid on your garage floor or driveway.

  • You probably need to put on a new pan gasket. See our video for servicing the ford taurus transmission.

  • how do I stop my transmission from constantly leaking from an 01' taurus se?

  • thanks. really appreciate you fast forwarding through the repetitive parts

  • nice

  • Can't lower steering knuckle enough to remove strut. What do I do now?

  • @Aspencade1984 You may want to see if there's anything preventing it from lowering. Such as a brake line possibly, or a bolt still holding the strut onto the knuckle.
