  • the old version still exists :)

  • This only shows the evolution that created the showlines!!! What about the breeders that stuck to the healthier and true GSDs, the working lines??? I am Von Gluckhaus Kennels and I breed only DDR, Czech and German Working bloodlines.Super working lines that have strong nerves, great health, calm temperaments and are beautiful without the over angulation.OFA says that the GSD still has 20% genetic hip dysplasia. I have been breeding great bloodlines since 1988 and I have not produced any bad hips

  • Initially, the dogs weren't stacked to the same degree. Some of the earlier dogs would have looked like their back was more sloped if they had been stacked. Anyway, not all GSDs have such slopped high-quarters.

  • God, why did they turned such a beautiful breed in such fat, mishaped monsters. Poor dogs...

  • This is a great video. But it's not evolution that's got the breed here, it's the breeders, the show judges and the various kennel clubs worldwide who have done it. Who the hell thought it looks more attractive to see a dog stand like it is cowering and walk like it's dragging it's hocks on the floor? I don't.

  • there are groups including breeders and judges that need their testicles removed for what they have done to the breed in the last 25-30 years!

  • @neviam62 ..Perhaps they already have

  • No wonder the modern GSD's are so clumsy now - they have lost so much of their physical abilities as utility dogs! Too heavy i front, arched back and the rear part look like hyenas - almost kneeling and with the tail between their legs... The "old" dogs had a beautiful balance and agility, and with a proud appearance. Luckily some breeders have found "old" types - keep on working to restore the breed!

  • The German Shepherd Dog did not evolve. It was deliberately bred into what it is today.

  • @agendor101

    Couldn't agree more mate.

  • Very sad to see the devolution of what was once a magnificent dog. Personally, I think what's happened to the GSD's is absolutely horrible. The sloping backs seem to start gradually in the 1930 to 1940 period and it acellerated from there. The GSDs seen in the show ring today look like virtual cripples when viewed from the back.

  • "ruined by show dog people".... better than backyard breeder and/or puppymill with NO HEALTH TESTS. Ignorance is bliss.

  • Bleargh, these poor dogs... Just noticed how all of them from the 90's onwards stand literally with their tails dragging on the floor and their hocks allmost flat to the ground. And the shape of that back. Horrid.

  • My GSD looks like one of the originals. A lot of people say shes a cross because they are more accustomed to the giant black and tans.

  • TRURIG DAS DER DEUTSCHE SCHÄFERHUND SO MISSBRAUCHT WIRD!! DAS IST TIERQUÄLEREI!!!THATS SO SAD TO SEE IT!i have one to with a * back * like in 1930....and that are the best shepherds!

  • Max von Stephanitz's work is destroyed !!!

  • makes one wonder. is our german shepard real or not

  • Thanks for posting that. The best most accurate evolution video I have seen of the GSD.

Sad to see the documented destruction of the greatest breed of dog ever created.

Luckily, there are a few good breeders out there producing good ones.

hopefully they will make their way back to what they where.

  • Im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes - sehr schräg!

  • It's no wonder how this breed commonly has hip problems. This gorgeous breed is being ruined. Personally, I love the older "versions" of the breed.

  • its so sad to see this

  • 7:05,Yasko vom Farbenspiel rocks!

  • Roland von Starkenburg, known as a "mutant" back then, but awesome Shepherd.

  • SUPER!!!!

  • wow beautiful dogs , i love the way the stand its amazing , my puppy hardly stands like that , is it only when they are adults? or is there a way to train them to stand like that.

  • @LoboVomCasa show quality puppies are trained to stand like that.

  • @LoboVomCasa It's not a natural stance, but a stance utilized in the show ring. One should also be careful when it comes to judging show dogs since they a bred for looks rather than health and utility. Notice how their backs are sloping more and more and how the snouts are too short. It's sad how the breed is being ruined by "dog show people."

  • @LoboVomCasa They stand like that because of overangulation and spinal slope. They are hereditarily anatomically incorrect.
