@bl0ckeduser No, brute force would take waaay to long to do. According to Peter Norvig having a million super computers with 10 GHz and 1024 cores each, you'd still only be 1% done after running these computers for 13 billion years (13.000.000.000 years) on a board wich has 4.6e38 possibilities for the whole puzzle.

Very cool, all you need now is an nxt plotter to write down the answers!

I considered plotting the answers, but then I'm through all my Sudokus in 20 minutes...

Cool :) It's funny you go into the fuss of making an optical reader

I just re-read my last comment and realized it sounded a little negative. I actually love this - I just want some documentation to geek out over.

Not bad - but what sort of AI algorithm is used for the solving? What language was used for the coding? What type of camera is that?
As much as I love the LEGO element of this, the programming side sounds more interesting. Can we get some source code?

You don't need an AI algortihm.
Just brute force.

would be nice if they turned it into a g1 app like the bar code scanner

I've written an iPhone app that does this - Sudoku Grab. There's a video of it in action somewhere on youtube.
I might look at porting it to Android if I get some time.

Very interesting!
But it'd be better if the LEGO NXT solved the Sudokus... ;-)

You didn't see it solve?
That's what it's kinda coded for, recognizing and solving sodokus.
