  • If I were a woman or gay....

  • Funny thing about John Tams, he's very near sighted!

  • Dynamite smile, and one of those men who looks great (and sexy) clean or dirty!

  • they change lyrics after whos monarc

  • @Flohaug81 Well it really ouldn't work otherwise!

You have to say Queen Liz now though, because Elizabeth won't fit in!

  • John Tamms one of the rifle men in program the sharpshooter

  • @BaconlordKenzie213 Doesn't he play Hagman in Sharpe anyway?

  • The French had their own version of this song called 'Run over the Hills' XD

  • You know in the 95th we dont sing it like that. dont get me wrong John is good but he changed the lyrics and its a marching song not easy listneng

  • There is no doubt about it Sean Bean is a real man's man!!!!!!! Oh I love him

  • its a trully inspireing song

  • Love the photos of the gorgeous Sean Bean, especially the shots taken on the film set. I really like John Tams version of this song. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Amazing song!!

  • i love this song as soon as i listen i think about watching sharpe again

  • I love the Sharpe's series, Sean Bean is the greatest actor

  • When I hear this song, tears fill my eyes.

  • very nice song. I'd like to see the serial

  • Is that Sean Bean? The guy who plays Alec Trevalyn in the movie, Goldeneye?

  • @MajBlood yup

  • @elementalwiz read bernard cromwells books thats where the tv series came from they are fantastic!!!!

  • @kristinelawrie: Just read Sharpe's Peril! Loves it loves it.

  • The Character is very Australian until after the Fifties.

Simmerson is a typical graduate of what we call "Donkey School" and you Poms call Sandhurst.

  • The Rifles should start wearing this uniform.

  • Makes me proud to be British

  • @BadassRocknRoller . Ireland,Wales,England,Isle of Man,Scotland have given the world more than can be stated. We Americans are proud of our ancestors. Campbell,Douglas, Beatty ,Drake, Howard,Hawkins,Bruce,Plantagent, Winsors. all are listed in our records of our family. We remember our kin.

  • @progressiverebel whow some family

  • I just can't stop staring at this amazing man :)

  • Fun fact about John Tams, he plays something like 30 different instruments. Just about the only folk music instrument he DOESN'T play is the fiddle which Hagman plays in the Sharpe series.

  • @elementalwiz Does bring a tear to the eye. Britain may change, the old ways may be gone, but the heart and soul remains. Things like this remind me who I am and where I come from. By remembering the past and keeping the spirit alive, a bright future is possible.

  • Victoria's reign? It dates from the reign of Queen Anne, 1702-1714!

  • wats this from?

  • @Geistmeister6 The Sharpe Series that, if you're in America, was on Masterpiece Theater. Very fantastic series of the war against Napoleon. John Tams (who plays Hagman in the series) does this song, which is little changed from the original sang durring Victoria's Reign.

  • @LadyAryun Actually, the song originated in Queen Anne's reign, four Georges and a William before Queen Victoria! The original line in the chorus was "Queen Anne commands and we obey" and the verses John Tams sings are mostly quite different to those in the original song....more about what a great life it would be in the army and less about duty calling and possibly falling! It was a recruiting song after all, and highlighted good things while downplaying the bad.

  • He does? Since when?

  • Hm, why?

  • why???

  • who sings this song ? anyone know

  • I think it's John Tams.

  • Yes it is John Tams

  • Sean Bean! :D

  • Excellent Video..Well Done !

    Loved Sharpe.

  • Great vid. Sharpe was right in the book Sharpe's Fury that he couldn't be mistaken for a gentleman. Still, the films are awesome, the books are better and all related games (Empire Total War) are best. As usual. I actually like the books best.

  • I knew there'd be other Sharpe/Empire fans floating around. Eagerly waiting Napoleon Total War now so's I can really feel like I'm there and you can bet I'll be renaming a British Rifles regiment to the 95th.

  • I'll just be waiting till I have 95 Regiments so I won't end up with two 95s like I did in Empire with the 33rd. (as in the first 3 books chronologically)

  • Just name one as the 95th anyway and IF you get up to 95 Rifle regiments then hold the second one deep within your empire or something.

I've started a new system anyway where I rename every unit upon recruitment.

With chronological numbers - Location trained by region and regiment type.

For instance Line Infantry trained in Silesia are the 1st Silesian Foot then 2nd Silesian Foot etc.

I don't give irregulars numbers just call them e.g Silesian Irregulars.

  • I wouldn't have the patience for that.

  • Fair enough.

  • yeh it better be better than empire total war. wasnt really good.....

  • I actually like it so Napoleon can only be better in my eyes.

  • An amazing song and so very moving.

  • They have made 2 set in colonial india late 17th century

Sharpes Tiger and Sharpes Peril have watched Tiger but not Peril all the way through.

  • Good stuff. Sharpes Peril was set in 1818 though, Three books were set in India in the 1790s. Sharpes Tiger, Sharpes Triumph and Sharpes Fortress.

  • when did they make tiger and peril?

  • i think peril was just shot in 07

  • i did love that series ^^ and that song fits it so well. shame he looked a bit bedragled in the india one :)

  • Sharpe is simply the best!!!!!!!!!!

Wat i need 2 know though is are they making another sharpe?

  • i think they are goin to make another one in india

  • Sharpe is the best dvd series ever and the music from john tams is great but it was originaly a song for recruiting sergants and would sing while they where marching in the 18th century

  • You can get this on the CD "Over The Hills and Far Away - The Music of Sharpe" - I think its still available but, if nnot, you can get it on E-Bay

  • Awesome. Thanks!

  • hagman, from the sharpe series

from experiance I know you cant get this version on Itunes :P

  • Does anyone know who sings this song? I'm trying to find it via Itunes, torrent, anything! I need this song! =)

  • It's John Tams, who plays Hagman in the Sharpe series.

  • You can get this on the CD "Over The Hills and Far Away - The Music of Sharpe" - I think its still available but, if not, you can get it on E-Bay . Sung by John Tams - an old 18century tune and chorus and Tams added some different verses for the Sharpe series

  • @Antigan15th.The singer and actor is John Tams,he played one of the supporting roles in the ITV drama series Sharpe as one of the "Chosen Men": Rifleman and former poacher Daniel Hagman, a whimsical, sober, steady hand in the 95th Rifles; always ready with a deadly eye behind a Baker rifle, a folk remedy for an ailment, or a song for a weary heart. He also co-wrote the music for each film (18 to date - Nov 2008) alongside Dominic Muldowney.

  • @Antigan15th I know how you feel. Fantastic ending to every episode. I heard that the singer IS the old guy from the rifles who is a real good shot, the guy who sings it at the end of every episode.

  • @Antigan15th John Tams

  • My English is so bad to say how I love Sean Bean, and his Sharp - the best forever!

  • its sharpe

  • I agree with you, Sean is the best...

  • good looking man

  • man times have changed.

  • aww i luff da pic at 0:53

    sooo cute

  • The forgotten side of war...

  • i wish the books about sharpe in india wernt just thrown together in chalenge

if thed dun tiger, triumphe and fortress seperate it wud have been sooo much beter

  • i prefer the sharpe books but this music is amazin even with out sharpe

  • yeh the sharpe books are better

if only thed made the india books into 3 seperate films

and thed made trafalger + prey into films aswell

i liked the "pucelles" crew as charecters

  • i completly agree putting william dod and the tipo sultan all in one was poor also they should of done it first it looked stupid at the begging where sharpe is well old and its ment to be just befor the war in spain

  • Well ... the three India books were only written after the first episodes of Sharpe were aired on British tv.

  • they might

their brinign out the new india episode on the 2nd of november

  • Never mind Sharpe et al. This is a beautiful plangent song with the capacity to make this old trooper smart at the eyes. One to sing along to of an evening. Also, listen to the last verse second line " With Colours blazing like the sun" - astonishingly evocative, descriptive and moving.

  • KSLI - nowt more. Kings' Shropshire light infantry. They where at the Somme, enough said.

  • the scientists really need to try and ressurrect Sharpe so he can fight in englands current and future wars

  • 'Wezzipooh'~ the spirit of Sharpe is in the Armed Forces of today , its a pride in serving your Country .

But , having said that , bloody good series !

  • kungen1979 ur ryt well spotted mate lol

  • Sharpe and Harper Rules, I just love this serie, and I'm a fucking Swede =)

Sean Bean is awesome as Sharpe...he even made a reference to the serie in the Lord of the Rings when he cuts himself on Narsil and mutters - "Still Sharp"(e) :D

  • haha, you're right kungen xD love this show too

  • And here I thought I was the only one who got it! *laughing*

  • The song is very evocative and makes me think about Sean Bean playing Captain Sharpe which is always a good daydream!

  • got to love sharpe you know he's a rifleman he's part of the 95th regiment the only regiment wih the latest weapon the baker rifle.

  • one of my best ever tv programs

  • Sums up a soldier's life - written for soldier in the 1800's, but as apt today. Substitute Flanders, Portugal and Spain for Iraq and Afghanistan and you get the idea.

  • Nice to hear the full song. Sean Bean is absolutely gorgeous!

  • i love this song

  • Who wrote this? Greensleeves yeah? Which album is it on? Girls girls girls?

  • Love sharpe Can't wait untill the new episode.

  • I know man but he does die in the novel too. Harris isn't in the novel if i remember correctly.

  • i love sharpe. i wish he was real.

  • well rifleman cooper was a real soldier in the 95th rifles in the napoleonic war and i've been told that the stories are (very loosely) based on his collected memoirs, not that there is a lot being a commoner it is very unlikely that he could read or write but apparently someone wrote down his experiences and they became the basis for the books.

  • This was the time when we Prussians fought against the French on the side of the great British Empire!

  • thanx. ive never met a prussian-mongolian before. sounds, militarily speaking, like a winning combination.

  • rule bloody britania

  • Always on ukgold on cable

  • what a time to have been alive. it takes me away. where is there honour left like this in our country today? we cant even say we are proud without some liberal twat calling us a fascist! its a touching video but sad at the same time.

  • Well said mate!

  • could not agree wid you more pal that touched me well said mate well said

  • So it was the seventh coalition, and NOT GB alone, ok BritishPatriot?! Be proud but get the facts right and the bias out of the way---this stuff is on wikipedia anyway....

  • The russian campaign destroyed the Grand Armee, not the 60 or 70 thousand men under wellington in waterloo and not the peninsular war...much less trafalgar. France and Great Britain were, in the words of a contemporary, much like "an Elephant and a Whale, both powerful in their own way but each incapable of defeating the other in its own terms". Also, GB allied itself with Austria, Russia and Prussia, which had the effective manpower to bring down the french army,

  • were cna i watch sharpe its never on

  • Only been able to watch it by buying the dvd collections online. Totally worth it, by the way, they are fantastic.

  • its on UKTV history

  • This show has got to be the best depicture of the british army and the most accord. All of Europe was fighting against Napoleon, and that is hat makes heroes. All of the discard against the british in later and earlier decades was well provoked from british rule. To put it planely, the brits were the underdogs in this war=)

  • I agree that British played an important part in Napoleonic Wars such as the Bombardment of Copenhagen, Battle of Trafalgar, Spanish Campaign and Waterloo, but it is too much to say that the war was soley done between Britain and Napoleonic France. Never to mention Austrians in Essling and Lipzeig, Russians ar Eylau and Borodino, Prussians at Lipzeig, Paris and Waterloo and etc...You gotta break from the British myth of invincible redcoats.

  • yer but the fact was napoleon hated britain the most.

and britain never lost a battle in the napoleonic war
