  • Where can I make friends who know psychology well OR where can I study psychology by myself to help others? :)

  • thank you, I thought this was a great example for people who are learning about counseling techniques

  • Hi Mate, the other day I was looking through the bedroom window when I noticed that the young lady who lives next door was sunbathing NAKED!!!. My natural reaction to this was to remove my penis and begin to masterbate. When I turned around I my wife was stood there with her arms folded.

Do you think my wife is a pervert?

  • The opening con is "I just ... " discounting herself, discounting how she feels, discounts the problem, also shows low self-esteem in that she doesn't feel important enough to talk about herself or her problems. Contract could be for her to decide she is important enough to have her needs, and them move onto contracting around how she meets them. :o) it's no wonder she frustrates herself!

  • Why would this be 'complete quackery'! Maybe the client finds it too confrontational to express how she feels to Jeff. The main point of a counselling session is that a client is able to feel safe enough to truly express what is going on for them in their lives.

  • complete quackery, why would she just not say that stuff to jeff in real life

  • Hm! I had never heard of this and so learned something today. Very interesting! Thank you for posting the video.

  • This is terrible therapy and doesn't represent Gestalt therapy. The therapist here is submissive and dull-minded, he recites Gestalt literature, he's not actually in touch with his patient. He doesn't make contact.

  • "who do you feel angry at" he is presuming that her anger is directed towards a person......if it isn't, she is less likely to say "nobody" and more likely to start searching for a person to blame.....and there may not really be one.....and all this time we are concerning ourselves with the counsellors ideas instead of hers

  • 1:15 she may not be experiencing it in her body. the counsellor suggested it to her because thats how HE experiences frustration. how could he know how anyone else really percieves reality, however, she went along with it and started considering her physical feelings. she is now carrying part of the counsellors perceptions while she explains.......so we are no longer talking about her authentic feelings.

  • what a crock of shit! you poor fools pay for this shit! haha

  • Does it requires some certification to conduct gestalt or other therapy?? is their legal or illegal on practicing this?? plsss answer me!!!!

  • @killlerzoo gestalt and similar therapies require extended training and it is illegal to practice them without the necessary qualifications. You need a degree in psychology or some other health related profession like psychiatry, nursing etc. You carry on with specialised training in a specific psychotherapeutic approach. In the States you will need a doctoral degree. In Europe you will need a Masters in (clinical)psychology and further practical training (3-4yrs). hope this helps:D

  • hmhat jemand lust zu schreibn oder pic tausch mir ist soo langweilig

  • yeah he does semm good ideed heh

  • Lo peor que ví en los últimos tiempos, éste tipo está más frustrado y nervioso qué el paciente, Getalt: "trucho"

  • This guy is analysing her anger to the point of confusing her. instead of listening, reflecting he's re-framing without first addressing the source of anger, skipping from 'I' statements to 'how' without prompting the 'why'....

  • Gestalt avoids the "why" and interprets the "how". "Why" leads to analysis, misinterpretations and blame

  • @MrAshleyBell: A gestalt therapist never would or will analyse! He listens well and he reframes for making the client aware of what the client says and feels. There is also no ultimate need to address the anger, because it is anxiety wich lies under the anger. And finally: a gestalt therapist NEVER asks "why". "Why" leads back to thoughts. Takes apart from feeling.

    Bob, almost complete gestalt therapist

  • But globalmarkets you must know that as any other gestalt techniques if you aply this on yourself the effect is none...You need a therapist to do this a the technique needs to be adapted accordingly to the client

  • Wolfeyex I think you misunderstood globalmarkets' comment. I don't think that he is suggesting to go through the therapy sessions with no therapist, only the final technique used by the therapist where Sandra is asked by the therapist to speak to Jeff, her ex husband, - personified by an empty chair.

From my understanding globalmarkets is wondering if having a picture of Jeff for Sandra to talk to would make the technique more effective.

  • Would it help if you have the persons picture instead of just an empty chair?

  • it could help, but the process of the empty chair is to get out their unfinished "gestalt". The next step would be to have her switch seats and be her husband to respond to what she just said, so the chair is necessary

  • That was great how she opened up more and more, from frustration to anger to ex-husband. The empty-chair technique was ace!

  • she has a "tight" feeling.

  • I really enjoyed this session and agree with most of the other comments about the therapist. He seems so relaxed that it allows the client to open herself up and express herself to him. VERY NICE! :-)

  • GYSTCONSULTING, what do you think about using machinima films of therapy examples as training tools?

  • people DANCE for pete sakes...!

  • The therapist seems really good.

  • Yes, he does seem quite good, lemonsoul; unlike my psychiatrist.

After twelve years of therapy my shrink said something that brought tears to my eyes.....

    .....He said, "No hablo ingles."

  • @logansGT

    lol

  • @logansGT Even though your post was written a year ago, maybe this is still helpful: Find a Hypnotherapist and be happy. If you've visited a psychiatrist for 12 years and still feel the problem isn't solved yet, I belief it is time to find someone else. After all, what do you've got to lose? All the best to you

  • @logansGT yeah the thing is i just cant seem to remember where you got that one from..heh

  • @wreyoG I feel your pain, bro.....having Alzheimers is a definite downer :o(

  • @logansGT yeah and i love it when the other loves the have the last word.

  • @wreyoG I agree.....I also don't like people who always have to have the last word >>> word

  • @wreyoG Lol.....I think Logan may have gotten the last word, dude. Unless you're going to be childish again and go for the 'last word'

  • @jamieblond1 oh shit..there we go again...

  • blugaris: You're right, there are no miracle cures, however, a skilled therapist skillfully applying a theapeutic model can do a lot of good. NLP, Gestalt, PCT and CBT (and others)have all been shown beneficial, however, at the end of the day it comes down to WHO the therapist IS, and the nature of the relationship between client and therapist.

  • This is garbage. This idiotic "therapist" asks his patient how being frustrated feels for her. It's the result of an outfome worse than expected, in english. how does it feel? Of course she feels tight. It's a sympathetic response. lmao idiots

  • he has to ask her what frustration is for her because he shouldn't be guessing how she feels. Frustration could mean a lot of different feelings for a lot of different people. When the definition is clarified by the client then it can be properly addresses

  • what you fail to see is, why is her sympathetic nervous system responding to something that is not here and now sir?

  • Actually, she's dealing with circumstances that are very "here and now" for her.

  • Why is this space an argument about whether NLP or Gestalt therapies work better? This is a video about Gestalt therapy. Yes, NLP was founded on Gestalt principles, but who is to say what works better? But, as long as we're on that subject, Maxxsee, psychotherapy outcome research suggests that it is similarity between therapist and client in their preference of modality that is the most important tool, (not excluding the client's own capacity to heal).

    Dr. H.S. (therapist).

  • hahaah. you believe that this works its up to you and your costumers. I rely on what I've seen for myself and others. if anyone who want to get better quickly use NLP since it can make you FEEL DIFFERENT about your past instead of just RELIVING it, which only makes bad feelings stronger. I believe in meditaion too btw, its been around for centuries, and its effects can be measured in the brain, just like the effects of NLP can mrs Therapist ;)

  • sissoko11 wrote:

great way to make money if your practicing. but if your the one who needs help this stuff is a waste of time. go learn about NLP.

    -

Indeed. I believe the gestalt therapists intentions are all good. If you rehearse bad feelings the will get stronger! It has been proven. Gestalt therapy rehearses it. You don't want to rehearse bad feelings EVER. Learn NLP its the one thing that can give you true control and freedom. Richard Bandler has some new cool books out, check out amazon

  • NLP is a bunch of new aged hogwash, there are no miracle cures. How come you have to post so many times, maxxsee?

  • you are a bunch of new aged hogwash. NLP has changed my life and it works excelent. Did you try once exercise once and make up your mind?

  • How perfectly ironic that you say that Gestalt is "new aged hogwash" when NLP is touted by most psychologists as being new-aged, and scientifically unfounded. NLP was created from Gestalt therapy. Those are its origins.

What works for you may not work for others. Why the criticisms?

  • Whats NLP? Is it the same as gstaldt?

  • its a mothodology, attitude and a set of techniques to change behaviour and design your way of percieving and moving through the world to make you feel better and enjoy life more

  • Maybe for you there are no miracle cures. Please do not make statements on the half of other human beings.

  • Nicely put, jensbond.

  • my sister said 'the gestalt os killing me' in a text i have no idea what it means and im worried could someone please explain it to me

  • you people are ridiculous... this is actually a great example of Gestalt Therapy... anyone who says it isn't obviously knows nothing about it... it completely embodies what Gestalt is.

  • @traciabrooke I'm a Gestalt therapist, and maybe to set the record straight, I think that this is what a second or third year student of Gestalt therapy would act like - it is not the way a fully trained Gestalt Therapist would act like. As a post below says, he is not in contact with his client. He fails to be fully in the "Here And Now" with the client, and that's the primary duty of a Gestalt Therapist.

  • @bbtherapist Very interesting.

  • "it's in my head"

  • Is this for REAL ?? i mean, does the girl not feel uncomfortable/embarrassed about being treated for a sensitive issue whilst being FILMED ??

  • I have been a client Gestalt and i'm a huge fan of it.

But this is a terrible example of gestalt.

This would make me not want to investigate GT if i saw this.

  • NLP?

I am trying to get help with serious complex issues. I am an inventor and am dealing with issues larger then just anxiety, depression , ect, I would like to know what you are talking about.

Way too many all about money.

  • try searching google/torrent sites for "richard bandler how to live a happy life" or anyone of his other videos. Im not sure what you mean by issues greater than depression. Are you schizophrenic? if so, your still in for quite a treat.

  • I am disapointed about a lot of things, and has led me into depression. Many my fault, some are not.

Richard has been accused of murder, was a coke addict for years, has been divorced, has been declared bankrupt twice (once when he was 50!), is obese!! And, I saw a video of one of his seminars and he does not seem like a very likeable character/a role model.

Like I said I have only just started looking into NLP but these are some of the first facts that I have come across.

  • Wow, nice to see you're open minded about the possibilities of different therapies helping different people and the public being allowed to choose for themselves.

  • wow, if such closed-mindedness is the kind of result i can expect from NLP i think i'll pass

  • this comment of course was in response to sissoko11 (below)

  • NLP works but not with your attitude. with your attitude nothing will work. I can only hope you will change it

  • gee maxxsee, that really helps! thanks for explaining. now, because of your deep and insightful words of wisdom i have pulled myself out of the morrass of my wicked heart and bad attitude. thanks to you, i can see the light. i was lost but now i'm found. your hope has inspire my hope. thanks for caring so much about me. truly, you are a being of peace and light who is destined to bring enlightened change to the masses thru nlp. you go!!

  • awkward

  • This is simular to Focusing oriented Therapy, accept that Focusing oriented is less confrontational, and more experiential ! And it works !

  • this is a poor example of empty chair. you wont learn anything about Gestal therapy with this clip.

  • Gestalt doesn't have to be done in this surly 1970s way. You can retain the present-moment focus and the emphasis on blocked process, but with explicit empathy instead of the icky I'm-Mr.-Gestalt-therapist-who won't-let-you-get-away-with-your-bullshit tone seen here.

  • well, my therapist never asked me about my anger and what i feel NOW.but i´ll quiet my therapy and try to find another therpist which is probably better for me.besides, it makes me really angry that i need to waste time to find the right ONE before i can start to learn how to deal with my fears.

  • Time pursuing self help, no matter how 'fruitless' is never wasted...it's all part of the journey, a 'learning curve' if you like. Don't give up mate!

  • How could this be 'Bully therapy'? What do you suggest...that we suppress our negative feelings and reach out for a crutch? This approach involves experiencing our emotions so as to process them 'naturally'. Challenging? Yes, I'm afraid so...

  • New Zealand accent? it's sweet. So I'm guessing this was an example of catharsis (getting it off her chest)

  • bully therapy

  • he's obviousely very good
