i was always told that the popping from exhaust such as straight pipes was not enough bp... but the whole top fuelers and funny cars makes more sense by having very little back pressure makin high hp...

jegs mufflers are turbo mufflers and they all seem to pop and rattle a little so the muffler choice probably plays a big role...

the popping is due to cold air being sucked into the exhaust from an exhaust leak somewhere.

Funny thing is that MOST of you are wrong... The popping is from an exhaust leak....Most likely the exhaust manifold bolts are loose or broken......as always with the LT1.

no he doesnt have enough back pressure... he probably has the stock intake also. so when he upgrades the intake the popping will go away because more air will flow through creating more backpressure...

if back pressure made horse power, top fuelers would have freeze plugs for exhaust pipes. have any of you thought that it just might be the muffler? a lot of different mufflers make that "pop" from the design of the guts.

Popping is from the pressure inside the exhaust.. I put a crossover on mine and it redirected the exhaust flows and reducd it.

The popping is caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust. All cars do it to an extent, but free flowing exhaust makes it louder. Also, on carburated vehicles, you can turn down the fuel screws. On fuel injected vehicles, it is often caused by either a bad or "lazy" O2 sensor.
