I think this is a great lesson, but I see Rudy has the same issue I have when doing the drill. 3 o'clock becomes almost a full follow through, which in this case is very vertical. For me I don't feel any power in the 9 position so I think it is over hitting [trying to create power].
Why is that and how do you contain it to only 3 o'clock? Also wh y is Rudy follow through so vertical in the drill?
Restricting is not the best word. It's more a matter of learning to move from the correct muscles in the upper body so the lower body can provide a stable base. It also makes it easier to get the hips into the proper position at impact when you don't over rotate from the start as most golfers do.
Man Chuck is such a good teacher, you can really tell from this short video. I took away a few things from that video:
1. He understands that sometimes you need to throw down the club and ball and get into the mechanics of the weight shift.
2.He has noted that the hips need to be quiet when starting the backswing to have a real turn of the shoulders against the resistance of the lower body.
3. Pounding balls does no good if you're not achieving what you set out to with a practice session.
