You can get hurt on a 12 speed as well. It just feels weird in the beginning. If you get used to fixed gear, going back to freewheel will feel even more weird and unsafe, as you will lose control you have become familiar with.

No, it isn't. Looks just the right size. The saddle might even be a bit low.

A good rule of thumb is to stand across the top tube and lift the handlebars - you should have about 2 inches between the front tire and the ground. More and the frame is too small.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking you should be able to touch the ground while sitting on the saddle. The saddle is for sitting on while riding. You're supposed to come off the saddle when you stop.

your rule of thumb isn't always correct. a lot of manufacturers have different slopes to the top tubes. so they aren't always straight across. the best thing to do is get fit for your bike. especially a road or fixed gear. i'm not trying to critisize, just help:)
