  • What if aliens can't possibly visit us, or likewise we cant visit them just because our planets may have certain properties like maybe while our planet is rocky their planet is sandy and the scientists think that aliens need food and water to survive. Perhaps not.

They could be totally different from us, and for all we know they may live on a gas planet and walk on gas and cant visit us because they cant land due to oxygen and Co2 surrounding our planet and making irt innacessable.

  • Well that was thrilling....

  • they have found similar simple organic compounds on lots of places, comets, titan, enceladus, europa I think. Still first extra solar organic compounds, we'l keep going through the steps and maybe one day.

  • You'll need a hell of a lot more than methane to get life.

  • (gasp)Krypton!!!

  • That planet is in a stage of earth 4 billion years, for sure

  • What's in that cloud at area 51? New goggle earth pic's make it easy to see S4

  • nuts thats what i thik of this

  • Now we can make beer !!

  • scientists have to get it throgh their thick skulls that maybe the other lifeforms dont need the stuff we need. like how fish dont need to breathe solid air, or warm-blooded creatures dont necessarily need sunlight to live. i'm releived im not the only one who thinks this, though.

  • @QueenAwesomenes Your half right and half wrong in your statement and saying they have "thick skulls" just shows ignorance on the subject. Scientists are well aware that there may well by other types of life but how would we recognise it? They are searching for "carbon based" lifed forms (like every life form on earth) because they know what "markers" to look for. This isnt a search for intelligance..just life..and we only know the rules that apply to life on our planet.

  • that planet smells like a giant fart

  • hmm but the question here is...will it blend?

  • you are not alone i am here with you thou your far away i am here to stay

  • the elite is looking for a quiet place to lay low in...

  • @DJRocks20 they use magnetic energy, all the governments have been, scientist are amazing, right after world war two, they started learning about every thing the mind energy,ect... we are just now seeing some other inventions they discovered years ago, some like finding cure to extend our life is good and some used to control people, are not good,it was amazing at what was leaked out in the 80's and 90's,only a few payed attention, now the nature has entered the war people are awakening

  • @elainepul

Mind Energy? Magnetic energy? All the governments have been? What?

Nature entering the war? What in the world are you talking about? Is this like the other extreme end of evolutionists? Waaaay too open man, learn to question what you're told sometimes.

  • @toasterder It should has said mind coma energy, look at all the tech advance's in the past 75 years you think that happen by magic, cable, talking cars,microwaves,ect.. no,it happen by experiments in time, you think that is the only avenue they traveled? No man is to greedy for control, and if you have not read enough science to know about magnetic and it's power then I can not help you,as far as nature, the poles are shifting the moon is wobbling which effects life, and war means not good

  • Press 6 for pink floyd :D

  • space is teaming with et life, ufos are non terestrial

  • i dunno... life can survive anywhere if it wants to.

  • Are we alone in Universe - the stupiest question in universe! Of course not alone!

  • impossible.

  • OMG. YOU SCIENTISTS ARE FUCKING RETARDS.

Why would other life need to be so much like us? I mean, sure. they probably won't have "Super powers" or shit like that. but I mean COME. ON.

Why couldnt they have a tail coming out of their eyeball, or shit like that?

Hell, they don't even need EYEBALLS. cells don't have eyes.

  • @HellHound60248 some of the creatures known to make crop circles. are forms of energy. every deny's this theoy. but theirs thousands of videos on youtube where it shows little glowing orbs in the sky making formations and doing shit. and theres been multiple covered up recording of actual crop circle makings in process. that had camers set up over night through out days. and eventually using nightwvision they caught the actual shit in the process of creation. most videos of it, are deleted.

  • @DJRocks20 Zomgz, you go read a little more on the subject. The entire crop circles thing was an elaborate hoax. Perpetuating crap to make yourself believe in it is getting you nowhere.

  • @shoshadin

And let me also point out the following fact about your 'i am really smart' behavior, i would like you see compete against someone else of your 'level' because you seem to be so extremely smart that i do not understand how your 4 words sentence is worth the reading, not to mention the entertainer took the time to upload this stuff... Why did you watch it in the first place? Get yourself a live, stop invading other's then criticizing it.

  • @shoshadin

in the english language, that is called putting emphasis, what is wrong in giving specifications to new comers to that science?

if i make the following sentence, 'on earth, the living specie called humans...

Everyone knows that humans are a living specie, but what is wrong in making such a sentence?

You rendered yourself to an idiot by pointing out that fact, that WE also do know about, you thought you would look smarter? It is not really my opinion, can you please, shut up.

  • idiot title.

    all molecules are organic.

  • Vagina

  • omg you guys stfu, OOOOGH ALIENS THEY'RE REALL REIGHT?

  • @Jontium1 You are stupid.

  • Meanwhile 2 alien astrophysicists made of extremely hot gases are searching for other planets made of extremely hot gases. *Facepalm*

  • @Twiztidguy Your comment makes so much sense. Yet the word penis is number one voted on this page. WTH humanity?!

  • @derman077 - lol :P

  • @Twiztidguy YOU sir! Is funny xD

  • @Twiztidguy Its the eternal anthropocentric problem: we only know how to find living things that are like us.

  • like on titan, methane could be their life sustaining substance, and its liquid and water would be like rocks to the lifeforms there adn they'd be oblivious to the idea that its liquid to us and we actually LIVE in it at THAT ungodly temperature.

  • so called scientists keep forgetting the fact that atmosphere is the sole reason why water boils or freezes and a thinner atmosphere would mean less pressure on the planet and therefore water that boils much easier, or evaporates upon rising from the surface(if there is one) then again a thick atmosphere would mean the opposite. (usually) and what if the lifeforms were methane based? HUH?(to be continued)

  • wo star trek, i just saw sex trek on pornhub today. its good

  • fuck.. i was born 2 soon, i wont be able to switching planet easly with my parents spaceship(2day its call a car)...atleast, i will saw rich mothher fuF**K doing it

  • @Zetaverti wtf are you even trying to say?

  • @jasonguyperson

lmao . im trying to say that we soon wil be able to get spacechip when will find the technologie and later, every one will get one and its will replace car... well i wasent serious but what i mean is in the future, the most rich of use will buy space ship .and humanity will live in more planet then the eart..ssry if im still not cl. but i was bored when i make the comment and im still borode now so i aint know what im saying lol. plz just keep watching videos dont lose u time

  • 37 people found a penis on an alien planet

  • that guy who wears the yellow suit, is emperor yoshiro in command and conquer red alert 3 xD

  • is everybody on youtube fucking stupid? im kinda interested in their videos, every one i go to, the highest comments say something completely fucking stupid.. aids. justin bieber. penis. lol omg wtf

  • see this is what I mean- How can we possibly know what is too hot, there could easily be life on that planet, we need to stop thinking of things by our own standards, we have no idea what is out there. Before any extremophiles were found here on earth, it was unthinkable that creatures could live in the environments that they live in, so who is to say what kind of life is out there. Do these people really believe that all other life in the universe is going to be just like earth? Come on

  • @LiquidChem That's not what they are saying at all. Though there are extremophiles on Earth they are in a minority. Water and carbon based life is abundant on Earth and we know how it develops and what to look for. Once we know more about how arsenic based life (for example) develops and evolves I'm sure they'll broaden their searches.

Do these people really beleive that all other life in the unniverse is going to be just like earth? Come on.

  • @MrEriken Indeed.

  • @MrEriken i concur

  • @MrEriken Why is this the top comment Lmfao!?

  • @MrEriken lol why is my comment thumbed up so much lol

  • mm, Im sure there is life out there, but I wouldnt be surprized if they are only single celled.

  • nobody knou for shure

  • They just want to find other human life planet to take over it.

  • They just want to find other human life planet to take over.

  • The only reason they are looking for a planet like earth is because they want to give the future a hope? because they are still selling petroleum cars when there is a h2o car (search"daniel dingle)

  • Scientists need to think out of box,not all life is similar to that in Earth ! Life can be very flexible, for example there could be Silicon based organic molecules, since silicon has similar properties to carbon.

  • there is probably stuff breathing liquid methane. too hot planet to have life on it? stfu and look further then your nose.

  • when we have spessh marines then we will go and explore the galeaxey and find we are not alone. Then we will shot them will our laz and melta wea pons

  • too hot? seriously??? ever herd of a thing called LAVA PEOPLE? maybe a life form lives there fuck its like 20 billion degrees in the tropics and things live there im pretty sure 20 googles would be enough for a life form to live and stop looking for conditions like ares just cause we live in conditions like this doesnt mean other life forms cant god stop being so self centered earth

  • Who the fuck believes nasa these days? Who believes ANYTHING an american official says?

  • When you find the giant universe from Spore. Give me a call. When you figure out how to get there. SIGN ME UP!

  • The fact is, if they do find more of us on another planet, the chances that they're the EXACT same are 0 to none. because we've created a shitload of lies and now people actually believe them lies. No one can say they'd "know" what we know. Also if they are less technologicalised, they'd most likely try to kill us. More technologicalised, they'd find us first.

  • @UMadeMeKinky ofc no planets life forms is gonna be 100% like ours maybe not even close. but a lower evolved species might not even be thinking about finding other life yet/are not able to do yet. and more advanced creatures might be smart enough to keep them for themselves because they know that something might be greater than them and if it finds them they would have a problem due to the fact that they are either based on some othe priciples.

  • @islagkage15963 That's another good point you made. But what I'm saying is that it could be either a completely different species based not on water. A species similar to us, but not as technologised. We're just not ready to go out looking for Aliens until we actually are ready to explore places like mars in person.

  • i always found it stupid how none of the smart scientists actually thought maybe there's a life form NOT BASED ON WATER

  • methane=natural gas=farts :P

  • By searching for "conditions like ours" they are looking for our PLANETARY conditions not our homo-sapien homeostatic conditions. And it is possible for the planet to be too hot. It's not a novel concept... at certain temperatures organic matter simply cannot function as well as it can in more temperately moderate areas. I honestly cannot see why you guys got so many thumbs up.

  • @d34thguitarr

Because you're assuming that extraterrestrial life would be made of organic molecules, and they're saying it could be any sort of self-replicating system. Maybe the building blocks of alien life are different than on our planet. There are other simple easily forming elements besides just hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen.

  • The question is; will you ever get the audio in sync with the video? :)

  • why are we looking for a planet just like ours? there are micro organisms that live around the vents of volcanoes and in the deepest caves at 100's of negative degrees. but ya forget about that lets just look for a planet like ours and forget everythingelse im sure theres no possible way those micro organisms could evolve... stupid

  • @p6a9u1l42 - where did we come from then? we had to evolve from something. We could of been made by god too, we don't truly know yet.

  • @llproper ya we dont know but im not just going to be like our ancestors and just say... well i dont understand so god must have done it... try and think for yourself instead of having some religion tell you how to do everything... we could have came from an astroid or a civilization on mars... who knows... but evolution actaully has some reasonable facts to suggest that evolution is possible and still happening to this day

  • What we need to do is take a few billion from the bankers that have stolen like 24 trillion from us (sickening) and invest in optical equipment to be able to see these damn things within at least 50 light yrs. Goldman sachs and co has robbed us of trillions and can now print that money up at will cause intense inflation at our expense and put it in other countries such as china. I am so sickened by what can advance us being ruined by these pigs

  • What I find interesting is if life does exist in other places, there is no way they will be even of a remotely similar size. On a huge planet with lots of sunlight living things could be like giants

Our whales have grown so big because they have got space.same may apply on large planets with open space.

This reminds of Hitchhikers Guide where a huge marauding army of aliens come to invade earth but 'Due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the entire battle fleet was swallowed by a small dog'

  • I think it is funny that they keep looking for earth like planets that could support life. This suggest that they assume that any life they find will be carbon based as it is on earth and that it will require such conditions. Just imagine if the first extraterrestrial life form we encounter turns out to be sulfer based or iron based or some other seemingly rediculus element.

  • D: nice editing.. d.e.l.a.y.

  • i believe we are not alone. Its hard not to? I mean the universe is just so big. But think about this, other solar systems where formed way before ours. Other planets where formed way before ours. But then again we could be alone in this colossal place. We will never know how big the universe. i mean aliens could be living amongst us right now, who knows. Look up Val Thor. They say he was from venus. I don't understand why we look for planets like ours. Things adapt to its surroundings.

  • @ZigZag1808 Not to mention the universe is speeding up expanding I think. So its gona take even more time to travel XD

  • @TheExtremeAnimation Yeah i believe the universe is expanding also. Lol i dont think we will be traveling outside of our own galaxy for a very very long time. Unless we find a way to travel EXTREMELY fast.

  • @ZigZag1808 It has something to do with Dark Matter and Dark Energy. You can use worm holes. Its like a subway system. But we need negitive matter. But its never been found...

  • @TheExtremeAnimation Maybe dark matter is all around us. maybe we just dont have the technology to see it. Like what if its smaller then atoms. Or what if its smaller then electrons. We wont be finding it for a very very long time.

  • @ZigZag1808 Its been found

  • @TheExtremeAnimation Oh really? i thought you said it hasn't?? ;)

  • @ZigZag1808 Thats Exotic Matter/Negitive thast never been found. Ii could be used to make a worm hole stable

  • to all the comments below me. Thank you!!!! Finaly i find poeple that think like me.

  • ha i remember that ep -w- im pretty sure thats the ep with the cat witch girl o3o

  • So, they don't know how methane is made? Er, yeah, they do! They just don't see how it can be made where there is no life. They are not yet willing to accept that methane = life (even if the life is long gone).

  • @periurban It can also come from a geological process. There are lots of planets in our system with methane.

  • @yujuke My point is that the "geological process" has not yet been described, and may still depend on life being present at some point. There is an assumption here that organic chemistry doesn't need an organic process to drive it, which as far as we know is not the case. Clearly, there may well be some other means whereby organic molecules are created, but we don't know what it is. If it wasn't for our bias that life only exists on Earth we would see evidence of it everywhere we look.

  • why do we keep looking for hydrogen/ oxygen planets?

It is quite stupid of us to think that we are the only type of life there is.

It's like saying you think there is only only one type of crystal.

  • @MirageScience We look because it's all we know to look for! If some other configuration of life was prevalent how would we recognise it? Also, if we assume that life is an emergent property of the universe (not unreasonable) then life everywhere ought to share similar characteristics.

  • It blows my mind that this video only has about 190k views, and other, nonscholarly videos (don't get me wrong, I love unintentional Autotune singers and animals doing funny things) are in the MILLIONS.

    Hmmmm

  • -|warning| Youtube arguments below |warning|-

  • Of course you won't find life like ours exactly ,we can be looking at life in a different form in the heavens right now and we don't realize it

  • @thatrandomguy53 Good point, but if life is ubiquitous then it is likely to share the same characteristics wherever it appears. For example, we are carbon based, and carbon is a very plentiful element. Why would the universe "invent" a whole different way of doing it? If we are rare then it's very unlikely that a completely different kind of life also exists somewhere out there.

  • has everyone caught the down or something... organic molecules are not the same as organic life and in many cases are not precursors to life. Stop polishing your swords and read a book sometime seriously

  • @gotmuff Actually, the reason it's called organic chemistry is that as far as we know it relies entirely on the processes of life to arise. When you trace molecular evolution of organic chemistry what you find at its root is an organic process, even if the final molecule is somewhat divorced from that process.

  • Y would we b the only living planet there r like unlimited planets out there and somepeople mean to tell me that we r the only liveing things? heeeeeeeeeeell no, im pretty shore they look like us and might talk like us but there just millions of light years away...or they might not look like us idk. Also if there r other liveing things out there theres no way they would just attack us, they would want to meat us and talk to us and study us like we would like to do to them. We r aliens to them

  • @lulzproductions1996 i agree what makes us so special why would we be the only ones, there a billions of galaxy's each one containing millions of planets, they would defonetly want to study us like we would them there are many things about the universe we dont know that could be figured out by them and also things they dont no that we could tell them, the possibilities are endless

  • human body is magnetic so it destroys other beeings on nearby planets

  • OMG, who gives a crap if its too hot, maybe there is a different type of life forms there. You cant just go looking for life on other planets and expect to find humans. Just imagine how big the universe is, now imagine how many stars are withing the universe. Come on, do you really thing that we are that special to be the only life form in the universe? If so, you are one closed minded person.

  • @Die4Futbol i don't think its absolutely close minded to think we're the only life form. Think of all the variables that has to be right and remain right long enough for life to spawn? I mean there's all sorts of ways for a life-supporting planet to fail. I mean what happened to mars? But i think you're right to say odds are there is other life but maybe we ARE the lucky ones

  • @Die4Futbol you may be onto something

  • @Die4Futbol thats a good point but after certian temperatures organic molecules begin to break down and this is probably why he says its too hot

  • @Die4Futbol if you think that it's not equally possible that you are wrong then you are a closed minded person

  • @Die4Futbol i agree with you but we have not come across any non-organic life forms that survive in absence of water and hence do not have any parameters or blueprints of how such life could be, we are doing our best by scanning form of life that might be similar to ours because thats the only life we know of and have any chance of directly observing. It is not human intellectual arrogance its commonsense. Hence we search for water and organic molecules.

  • @Die4Futbol true :D

  • @Die4Futbol Yeah because I'm sure the top researchers in this field have not thought of this already. Thanks for the input though...

  • @Die4Futbol i couldnt agree more,!

  • @Die4Futbol And guess what? He's an EXPERT what are you?

  • Comment removed

  • @Jontium1 i WOULD DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THAT... WE CAN NOT ASSUME THAT ALL LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE LIVES EXACTLY THE WAY LIFE LIVE ON EARTH. SCIENCE ONLY ASSUMES WHAT IS OUT THERE, BUT REMEMBER ITS ONLY AN ASSUMPTION.

  • @Jontium1 But....that doesn't mean that the building blocks that allow us to exist is the same as a building block for another, INTELLIGENT life form.

  • @TheUniverse101 there is a reason why DNA dominated all other self-replicating molecules.

  • @TheUniverse101 An alternative to carbon is silicium, but there are not many others. A solvent other then water is much more likely I think, like ammonia or chlorine. They are searching for those as well since recently.

  • @TheUniverse101 Exactly, We're carbon-based, other intelligent life-forms could be what, calcium based? any elemnt really

  • @XboxBasherAvailable not rly. carbon hydrogen oxygen and nitrogen make up life. they do so because of the immense amount of molecular configurations they can make. the closest thing is silicon, which is one below carbon on the same period. silicon isn't as stable and cant make all the molecules carbon can.

  • @nadskofhqwak yes, really, the fact is, there may be other elements on diferent planets, more sutied to life than carbon.

  • @XboxBasherAvailable no read a book without the essential elements life cannot exist so shut the fuck up

  • @TehAWAL these are the elemnts of life on THIS planet, the elements of life may be different on other planets, we don't know everything, we pretty much only know the things about our planet, fuckwit.

  • @XboxBasherAvailable I know what youre saying but the logic is not there and you missed my point.. there is a very specific set of characteristics that is required to sustain life, if they are not present life IS NOT POSSIBLE.. trust me there isnt life forms made of helium searching for other helium life forms... however you have a good imagination and sorry i came off as a dick, i was high as fuck...

  • @TehAWAL The problem is, what if our logic isn't really logical in space, and that our theories and ideas can be defied? I've always wondered what would happen if someone decided to think outside the conventional theories

and try to do/create the impossible with technology.

  • @ReallyBadService yea bro i get where youre coming from

  • @ReallyBadService Well, there is one thing of which you can be somewhat certain, and it leads to a rather specific set of conclusions about what we should look for in the search for life in space;

The lifespan of an organism is defined by its ability to maintain homeostasis, and as such, organisms need to be 'bordered' in some sense, as well as they need some type of mechanics for transportation of molecules in and out through the border molecules.. this means we look for carbon simply put :)

  • @ReallyBadService

There are speculations of Silicon based life since Silicon is versatile like Carbon in bonding

  • @TehAWAL you are actually wrong. Just cause atm we think its not possible doesn't mean it is not. Huge example, the worms living near the hydrothermal vents on the bottom of the ocean, they feed and live off of chemicals that we thought were poisonous to all lifeforms. One trip to the bottom of the sea, and bam, those scientists minds were blown.

  • @OlCapitain yea I heard about that oh well i smoke mad dank

  • @TheUniverse101 no you fail. without the essentials there is no life period its impossible

  • @Jontium1 also in bio you learn that there are organic beings that live in very harsh climates. so it is possible that there can be organic beings on another planet that dont even need water or they can use water vapor to survive. there doesnt need to be a pool of room temp water for something to be living in it.

  • @Jontium1

Actually microbes can live and strive in boiling hot water.

  • @Jontium1 WROOOOONG. Biologists were taking bacteria samples in a poisonous lake in Canada(?) a few months back and when they examined them, they found that instead of the normal bonding elements, the bacteria were using *arsenic*. That's right, one of the most toxic chemicals to what we consider life is the very foundations of another form of life.

  • @Jontium1 That is a very limited definition of life. There are even some self-replicating dust clouds in space that could be called life. If that definition is allowed, you don't even need water.

  • @Jontium1 hmmm u dont need water u need any kind of a fluid , maybe for life base on carbon need water but hey why only carbon?

  • @jamesgoldxxx The reason water is considered vital to life is that water is incredibly unique as a molecule. It's colorless, so it doesn't interfere with photosynthesis in plants. The Oxygen atom carries a higher electronegativity than the two hydrogen atoms, so the H2O molecule has a slight electric charge. This means water is "sticky" in a static kind of way, meaning it has a higher surface tension and it can be pulled up things like straws and plant stems easier. Also it is a great solvent.

  • @Die4Futbol You realize that certain molecules break down at high temperatures right? It's too hot for organic molecules to persist there. I'm going to go ahead and agree with you for a bit, but when you're looking at something "dozens of lightyears away" I'd be more inclined to use the available evidence and compare it to how we KNOW life forms. You think there aren't people looking for alternative forms of life? Fuckin come on man....

  • serch drakes equasion to see the chance of finding civilization

  • @Die4Futbol

yeah! other people are poobrains (i am rubbish at name calling)

why would the animals on earth including humans be the only living things? say a polar bear is able to live in a freezing place because of its fur and say somthing that lives in uranus (not your anus) which is freezing could have somthing like extra thick fur of a chemical that makes mimi explosions or someting crazy that god can create

  • @Die4Futbol The number of stars in our galaxy is estimated between 100 and 400 billion. The average number of stars per galaxy about 200 billion. We expect there may be around 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe. Estimates say the number of planets in the Universe exceeds the number of grains of sand on planet earth. In fact the estimated number of planets is aptly described as "beyond human comprehension". Astronomers assume life is pretty commonplace.

  • alot of metane ..hmm planet of the farting aliens?

  • @TheZombinator1 Very likely the aliens have gone, and all that's left is their farts.

  • why is she on a farm?!

  • How do I find that planet on google sky?

  • Maybe if we find intelligent life like us they can tell us that they went to other worlds, and found others, etc, etc, and it'll all be like Mass Effect 2 :P

  • nasa is keeping us in the dark because their are known aliens since the 40ties

  • Stop looking for conditions like ours, because not every form of life is like ours.. Fish in the the Ocean / We cannot. Some animals can live in the Arctic / We cannot.

    It's common sense..

  • @Ganthir they could be looking for conditions like ours because we may need that planet in many years to come.

  • @Ganthir Astro-biologists does look at extreme enviornments that archaebacteria could live in. They've even considered atmoshperic bacteria/life possible.

  • @Ganthir It's in those conditions life forms are known for sure to exist. Why wouldn't you look there for extra-terrestrial life? It's common sense..

  • @Ganthir You think that you know more than professionals? Why don't you just apply for a job with them. Maybe they can see how obviouslly bright and special you are even though we can't.

    It's common sense. . . .

P.S: Please tell me how to get a thumbs up on a completely stupid and ignorant answer.

  • @MyComboBreaker What's a professional? Someone who has learned pre-written text and followed a series of steps and then declares they are an expert in a subject? Being a professional means nothing.. it's only a title / job.

  • @Ganthir Try having your teeth done by an unprofessional dentist and see how that goes!

  • @Ganthir It means the person has learned enough to be counted on to back up what he says with reason and facts and not to just make stuff up out of thin air. So yes, it means quite a bit.

  • @Ganthir All life is based on carbon. That's because of its chemical properties. There is only a very minute chance that life can be based on Sulphur and even then you'll still need water, a moderate temperature etc. On a different planet there aren't other laws of nature, meaning life cannot survive if the circumstances don't allow it to. If the ocean would be 900 Kelvin, do you really think any lifeform could evolve?

  • @hijslijst23 Yes. The only "laws" of nature we are even aware of are the ones near us. You must think we've figured it all out but honestly we haven't even scratched the surface of understanding the universe around us. Let alone being able to just say "There isn't (Intelligent) life on other planets because.." based on our little handful of information thinking like that is close to religious.. Science and facts are always changing because we are always learning new things.. be open minded.

  • @Ganthir We're discussing at least three topics here. On the first we agree: there must be life somewhere out there. Second: is science just like fashion? I don't think so. As I get older my knowledge expands, which in turn may change my opinion. If facts change, they weren't facts. Next: before the publishing of the "Principia" in 1687 man thought there was a division between "Earth" and "The heavens". Since then there has been no indication whatsoever .......

  • @Ganthir that earth is not a part of the universe like any other. On the other hand I agree with Einstein who said that reality is far more complex than our knowledge of it (but not necessarily different).

Finally your call to be open minded sounds like an argumentum ad hominem. If openmindedness means believing in things you want to be true (fairies or whatever) then I'll pass on it. To me expanding one's knowledge (f.e. by reading books ) opens new worlds just as it closes others.

  • @Ganthir I do agree that there is obviously life out there somewhere that live on things that humans cannot... But... They need somewhere to start. Investigating planets that are light years away is a very expensive process. They can't just inspect every planet in the universe. They have to have some sort of system to decide which planets to investigate. We know that we evolved to get our energy from the sun, water, and oxygen. So that's a good starting point to investigate a planet.
