  • Nice music.

  • i used to ride to astley on coal barges for coal to the mills along the cut, seems like another world

  • @haybee12 Thanks for that pal, it all seems so long ago, factories, pits, smithys, another life altogether. :o)

  • @gydn he was a bargee called bert bond, worked out of butts basin,a mate of my dads,he used to let me help him, i loved it

  • Spent many a hour on the night shift myself, also smoked a few woodies, the good old days eh!, :o)

  • I used to work at Welch Hill Mill next to the cut by Leigh Bridge and on the night shift nipped out for a woodbine standing by the waters edge. I lobbed many broken shuttles in there. Seems like only fifty years ago. Nice pics. John.

  • To many factories not enough nature shots,

  • @thetruebrit85 LOL Thats true but I was more interested in the canal & area at the time as an historical location. Have a look at my Lake District slideshow for nature shots.

  • i live over looking the cnal and throw bread on it every mornin lol it gets boring but has its upsides like in summer when people make boats and go past sinking lol

  • Lol, a good sense of humour, I love the sinking bit but it can look very nice on a sunny summers day, especially when boats are sinking, what a picture that would be!

Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.

  • Nice vid-I went school near there-Bedford.Used to skate on it-bet it never freezes now.?

  • I have never seen the canal frozen over but I can imagine it being great to skate on, you could go for miles!

  • Sometimes ppl fell through though.! V .Dangerous.

  • Oh aye, it froze over good and proper in 1979 I think it was. And we got the cane from crooked neck Mr Halliday for going on during our dinner break. We also made makeshift sledges from old trays, from the then recently shut Steak & Stilton.

    Those where the days!

  • i think ive been here before, great photographs any way (:

  • Thanks a lot, the camera I used was a Fujifilm finepix F601 zoom.

  • Thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed it and to be honest it is a lovely walk on a sunny summers day.
