@sweeneytoddmaster He always does. I guess they just didn't make such a big point out of it as they do in the play. It is probably my favorite part of the entire thing. Just the total derailment; it shows the actor's (or actress') worth.

he sings it coz. wot he saw and continued to torment him in the sewers made him insane. originally he was only about 10 years old. but hardly surprisingly not many kids want or are allowed to be in this play

Well, usually the role of Tobias is portrayed by a mentally or physically challenged person. Obviously, he went crazy from seeing Todd kill Mrs. Lovett, or something of that matter..

In the script the body of the beadle is supposed to fall on him. Its a combination of that and what he saw in the sewers (mrs lovetts...uh...."leftovers") that drive him insane.
