  • I doubt that there are too many songs that have passed the tests of time that have been handed from generation to generation that havent been changed, alterred or revamped somewhat to make them relevant to a new generation.

Songs are not meant to be museum pieces but living art.,,like any living thing they grow and they change. Pete Seeger called it the folk process.

I like the old versions but I dont live in the 1930's....

    FWIW I love this version

  • was this in Cambridge, MA?

  • guys, they intentionally don't follow the original music. Oh and bluegrass is thus but thats beside the point huh?

  • I don't mean to be critical mind you. It's a nice arrangement but I personally just happen to like shady grove done by little old church ladies from the Ozark mountains or someplace like that - you know, totally NOT self conscious and singing for the Lord with the mouth wide open and the snaggle teeth showing but who cares :) - ya know what ahma sayin'? And they pretty much stick right to the original melody as it was written.

  • too bad they aren't following the melody. oh well

  • Neither did Bill Monroe...

  • rushad has a band called butt wizards

  • the last show with rushad?

  • Yep :-(

  • one of the best shady groves around... :)
