@BobtheBobking The toys were way cool and the commercials for them were masterpieces, but I really dont remember any of the toys lasting very long or even ever working like they did on T.V. It was almost a given that the toys you got for Christmas would be broken before you got back to school...
Anyone who had this toy also knew the fun of having your dad come in the room while you were playing with it and saying "Turn that Goddamned thing off! It's making too much noise!" He was right though. It WAS extremely noisy, even before you started firing the pellets at the targets.
@elc1960 oh my gosh! i laughed so hard at your comment, i was close to tears! as a little black girl growing up on the east side of detroit, the electro-shot was not on my (ahem) "wish list " of toys. however, i remember the commercial quite well. i think the "visual" of your comment is what got me. thank you for that laugh!!!
@mzmuzikluvr Glad to know you enjoyed my comment. As they used to say, "I got a million of 'em." If my Dad were still around, he would be the first to say he lost track of all the times he yelled at me and my Sis for playing with that infernal contraption. It was a cool toy but truly noisy, even with just the motor running and no shots being fired.
I had one of these - wish I still did. They don't make toys the way they used to. The only thing that was bad about it, was that the ball bearings sometimes clogged the reloading chute at the bottom of the gun.
@RoverDaddy This game was right up there with the Harbro GI Joe Mercury capsule. It was the bomb! I remember maybe 5 or 6 years later my younger brother would get something like it, only it was a light projection of WWI biplanes that would explode when you lined up the site with the plane and fired. Notice how they put the game in the foreground to make it appear larger.
You're absolutely right, I remember seeing that commercial back then in the mid 60's a real Baby Boomer Classic, I am one of those Boomers, and I was born in 1960.
I got one of these second hand at a flea market and it STILL kicked ass. My brother and I hooked it up to a power supply and cranked the voltage. It was throwing the steel bearings out so hard and fast it started buckling the backdrop, untill we grilled the motor in the gun. It went out in a blaze of glory! Fun as hell. I still remember the sounds and smell (burnt motor) of this game. thanks for posting.
The workers at the Marx factory had a revolution and began producing more apropos toys like the Johnny AK toy assault rifle with folding stock and banana clip (sold separately).
Claude was "The Voice Of Marx Toys" for over a decade; he even hosted "MARX'S MAGIC MIDWAY" (in his familiar "Ringmaster" role) on NBC's Saturday morning schedule in 1962-'63...

@elc1960 LOL! Got that sort of parental feedback from a lot of my 1970s toys.

This commercial was way before 1972. I remember seeing it in the mid '60's.

What ever happened to Marx toys? Or even Whamo for that matter?

Whammo is still around.

I don't know about these two, but basically Hasbro and Mattel have gobbled up most of the toy industry between them.

Loved the rapidfire setting. It was the closest a kid could get to owning his very own machine gun.
