If he were to be traded, Nashville took priority over other teams because, of course, that is where his wife lives, he already said that. Note that he did not put in a request to be traded. Blame the people that decided to trade him.

Just in case they ever decided to, he wanted Nashville to be at the top of the list. A player can't just walk up and say "Hey, my wife lives in Nashville, trade me." And Carrie certainly has even less power than he does in the NHL world. I don't understand why everyone is mad at those two. It is a bummer to lose a great Canadian to the US though.

Ottawa is going through a cleansing, and the management team was going to trade him period. They just had enough compassion to send him to Nashville. Mike was upset to be traded. Carrie was upset. Why the hell would she bother moving her stuff, buying car, etc/etc if she was going to force them to trade Mike a few months later? Makes no sense.
