Yeah, that kitten is getting a bit too big for the mother to gently pick it up without hurting it - she'd have to bite so hard it would puncture to keep that kitten in her grip.

She got what she wanted though, the mother obviously wanted the kitten to get down from the desk - possibly because the mother knows she isn't allowed up there, cats do know how to pass down things for their kittens to learn, be it hunting skills or even house-rules.
