Man, I beg to differ. I have both these engines and if you look at 2.08 closely you can see the engine sits upright. The carbs are attached to the cylinders (503 piston porting) .As opposed to sitting in line with the crankshaft (582 Rotary valve) represented by the boss just above the prop on this being a b-gearbox. The engine is shrouded to direct cooling air. The 582 is water cooled and does not need this. Also there is no cooling hoses and radiator in this shot. This is defiantly the 503
To my knowledge the RX-650 is no longer being sold, but it's predecessor, the RX-550 is still in production. You can get more info on that plane at their web site, ultralight (dot) ca.
I don't know. All the ones I ever flew had open sides, but they might make an enclosure for them. You would have to e-mail them at their web site and ask.
The company was sold to a buyer who ended up not paying but they stole all of the expensive machining equipment, and that was the end of the RX650. As far as I know the RX550 is still being sold though.
A friend of mine has a RX28 Beaver. Its a single place of course. It has been a complete nightmare to get support for it since the company has been shutdown twice and up again. They really don't want to talk about the rx28
I'm kind of looking for one of these for training, So contact me. I would Prefer one that need to be rebuilt. I have a motor and I can do Fabric work Im in Ontario so the closer the better. I don't really want a 550 But I would consider it. Let me know what you have. thanks.
Back in the 1980s, a kit to build your own Beaver Ultralight could be between $12,000 and $20,000, depending on the model and options you wanted. Learning to fly one cost $1000 at that time. I don't know what any of the costs are now though.
There is an ultralight biplane called The Murphy Renegade that is suppose to be fully aerobatic (except for tail slides I believe). I never got to fly one but I sure wanted to!
Hey Raynerad, good video. It makes me want to go out and get one.
I like the aerobatics. Tell me, do you know why there seems to be the premise that the 650 was inferior to the 550. It looks like it performed pretty nicely in the video., but people speak about it negatively.
I don't know why the 650 would be considered inferior to the 550. I never flew the 650 though, I did all my instructing in the 550. I know at the time I shot the video for them, they were having trouble getting it off the water when it was fitted with floats, while the 550 never had that trouble. But I don't remember any other problems it had.
@matthewjulianstubbs I own an RX650. It is registered C-IDJW. I live in Chinook alta. I think I flew in that aircraft with Dennis as the pilot. Lots of problems with this aircraft. I have done a number of modifications to my machine which makes it much safer. This was an aircraft which TC really didn't wish to have a lot to do with, or let it be registered as an advanced. I have piles of info on the RX650
Absolutely. When 1 seaters first came out decades ago, a person's first solo was their first time in the air too. Scary! Then came 2 seaters and licensing (in Canada anyway) and its now very safe. This one takes more Gs than regular aircraft, more stable in a stall (can still steer) and has a 7:1 glide ratio. In most forced landings you can ensure the safety of the aircraft and those on board. Most accidents, in any aircraft, are the result of pilot error, not a failure of the aircraft itself.
The Beaver glides very well. I had 6 engine failures during my time as a ultralight flight instructor, and each time the landing was just as smooth as it ever was with the engine running... though a lot quieter! :)
o ok yea I just looked up "ultralight crashed on youtube and it came up to this video that showed this guy flying over trees and the engine quit and he went straight down, But its probley because he pulled back on the stick when the engine quit!
It never really got into full production. The aircraft we used in the video was one of a very few made. It may have even been the prototype. Then the company (RX Enterprises) was sold to a US buyer who ended up not paying but they stole all of the expensive equipment overnight and took it back to the US, and that was the end of the RX650.
It was just too complicated to be made economically. It was also ahead of its time. The ribs were presssed aluminium and there were many ccm machined parts that made the plane too expensive. Nonetheless quite a few must have been sold - 5 came to South Africa. It was sold as the Skywatch after Beaver sold it.
The RX-550 is still in production and sold by ASAP in Vernon BC, Canada. I flew the single-seater version for 6 years, and believe it is the best such aircraft. 530 hours of pure fun!
Some body know how much is the cost and where sale I'm live in Chicago I need buy one thanks

@videoclipits Hmm, okay. Maybe the retail version was to have the 582 but this prototype only had the 503. Good eye.
raynerad 10 months ago
the engine is a is a 503 not a 582
videoclipits 10 months ago
@videoclipits No, this is not the Rotax 503 (50HP) air cooled engine. This is the Rotax 582 (65HP) liquid cooled engine.

A roll cage? W H A T ??? Are you serious? LMAO maybe you should just buy a car then.

would it be difficult to equip those things w/ a rollcage? Id imagine that would do a lot in case of crash.

in a engine failure, can it glide down safely?
JUKIO01 2 years ago
Yes they glide very well. About a 7 to 1 glide ratio. I had 6 forced landings during my years of instructing, and landed safely every time.

What airfoil is the 650 wing. It looks like a NACA 23018 I use the 23012 on my Banshee but it has two wings.
