great piece.first time I've heard it. I've been folowing Lightfoot since If you could read my mind first came out.I wish Croce had lived.Gordon was his idol. They might have done great things together
Gordon is a timeless wonder!! I don't care how long he's been around, you either love his music, or you don't. I'm one of the former, loved his music since I first heard him back in the early 70s
I was in the hospital the same time he was a few years ago. we both had the same surgeon...sitting in the waiting room..i knew it was Gordon! but, he was a patient,,,just like me
Yes, it's actually nauseating. It's because those who are Rolling Stone/Billboard wannabe washed up pushers of (C)Rap and Flip Flop have some kind of twisted view that they know something about music.
Screw airplay. Gord has REAL fans that know REAL music and to allow those arrogant narcisstic bastards in the 'music world' to even touch a masterpiece of Gord's would be an insult to his skill and position as the world's greatest troubador and the finest lyricist ever.
especially LOVE the end when he (and I hope it is his hand) holds this little baby's foot in his guitar playing hand... :) So sweet. Hope the people in this video are real life folks that have inspired this song... Just lovely!
Every tune this man writes has an authenticity I can't find anywhere else...this video is so touching and profound....the song is like the characters in the video....inspired...true to life....like ballet dancers perhouetting across the stage of life...
What I love most about Gord's music, it is simple. Doesn't use a bunch of mind clogging bg instruments to distract the listener from the poor quality. Gordon Lightfoot makes QUALITY music. Every song has a true and deep meaning.
finest lyricist and guitar picker this world has ever seen..his "Inspiration Lady" is his present wife who has long forgiven him for his errors..as we should all try doing once in a while..he's a friend and acquaintance of mine and I'd truly appreciate it if you showed the decency to remove this comment..almost 50 years he's dedicated his life to his fans and to the craft..he deserves more than this disrespectful comment you somehow felt you had the sickening right to put up here..shame on you..
Love Gordon, and just when you think a great artist might just live off his past and not write anything more inspiring and poignant a song like this came out and it was like wow, all over again. It just shows that a pure artist like Gordon is always searching. This song is just beautiful.
how do you thank someone who has dedicated their life..to making others live easier through exquisite music and heart touching lyricism?.."Thank You" seems so pathetic..yet knowing Gord as I do..it is enough for him..so Gord..Thank You..your friend forever, Mike
I am an admirer of Gordon nro 1 in Argentina. His music has inspired me and I have always recommended ... This video shows that the sacred fire is kept ... Thanks Gordon !!!!!!!
God bless you Gordon; its too bad you ever had to be connected with that witch over Belushi's death. Your seed remains...that is of God- your heart is gold, and will be cherished by the Lord. For me, the earth is better because of you, seriously. I'll see you when we get home brother; you'll know them by their fruit.
I am an admirer of Gordon nro 1 in Argentina. His music has inspired me and I have always recommended ... This video shows that the sacred fire is kept ... Thanks Gordon !!!!!!!
Inspiring! A new word for my vocabulary. lol (Breath takingly beautiful would have been good enough for me.) Thanks for sharing your inspiration, Mr. Lightfoot. For me it is about peace. We all need to get along, don't we? We need to be good boys and girls. Buy the music!
Been a Lightfoot fan since my early teens (46 now) and never get tired of listening to his music. I especially enjoy this song from the Harmony album; its style is very much like his late 60s/early 70s music, yet somehow very modern at the same time. It's too bad Gord can't live forever and keep producing music for us...
I've been a lifelong Gordon Lightfoot fan; saw him in concert in Seattle, Wa. in 1976, and I know all his songs, just about every word of every song. That's how much I care about his music. I was only 13 yrs old in the early 70's...and i have always like Gordon Lightfoot.....now at mid 40's.....it is such a refreshing to hear his song every now and then........an evergreen songs and voice.......
Hey, man, GL's prime's not over yet. I don't think Lightfoot'll stop writing until they lower him into the ground. honestly, he just ain't the type to retire from something he obviously loves so much.
He is that kind of a guy. He has stayed out in back of the Hult Center in Eugene, Oregon, and the venue he plays in Portland and patiently chatted with adoring fans. He does not take himself too seriously and has no ego problems about who he is.
He is a great man and an excellent performer who never takes himself too seriously. I have loved his singing and songs since the late 1960s and saw him this summer here.
It was a memorable experience. I hope he lives to be more then a hundred.
There is only one Gordon Lightfoot, and his music will be classics for years to come. It is a shame that he had to go through what he did, but I believe it strengthened his spirit and more people will discover how wonderful a man he is. And he is a great storyteller too!
I don't know the extent of that particular relationship, he has admitted his addiction issues in the past, primarily alcohol and has been sober for over twenty years, if not the burst aneurysm of 2002 would have killed him.
Gords true inspiration lady was one Cathy Smith. The same Cathy Smith who supplied John Belushi on his final night. One can only guess the chemical damage he has sustained.
'Lightning' never did speed balling like Belushi. In fact, had he not been in good shape from running and proper exercise with no booze, he would have died from the illness he recently had. You should be as lucky to be in his shape at his age.
Gord will be 68 in November, the women in this video would seem to be in her forties, and I know Gord has children, I don't know if he is a grandparent, but this video was made on his way to recovery from a very serious illness.
Gordon Lightfoot, Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell owe their early successes to Ian and Sylvia Tyson who wrote or recorded their songs. Early Morning Rain (Lightfoot), That's What you Get for Loving me (Lightfoot), Someday Soon (Ian Tyson), Circle Game (Joni Mitchell) were first recorded by Ian & Sylvia. Just a piece of history - I'm old. LOL I think the woman in this video is not that much younger that Gord. I was sort of hoping they were connected somehow. Just a romantic.
Mr. Lightfoot much like some of his counterparts in the US, has a whole bunch of younger fans in his native Canada, in addition he has younger children himself. After his near death experience in 2002, I think he is glad to be alive.
According to Gord's young daughter Meredith ("merlightfoot," a prolific YouTuber)that woman is none other than Gord's wife and Mer's mother. Hence the "inspiration"...

Gordon Lightfoot fell ill and nearly died in 2002, this video was done in 2004 and you can see how ill he really was in 2002. He has a couple other songs from the 1990's like Restless which are in this category. Long before Shania, Gordon Lightfoot and Anne Murray were the stars that came from Canada. Mr. Lightfoot turns 68 in November, many more years Gordon.
Gordon Lightfoot is a wonderful, poetic spirit who has blessed us with so many quality songs and lyrics. I will never tire of his music! Thanks for sharing, I had no idea he had a music video. :-)
My favorite video! Extremely sensitive and romantic! Love songs are what the multi-talented Lightfoot does better than any other songwriter! Expresses the deep love & appreciation Gordon has for his wife and daughters. Of the hundreds of songs that Lightfoot has written & recorded, this ranks near the top! This video should strike a wonderful chord in the hearts of all men who long to find words that best display their own love and appreciation for their wife and daughters!
I whole-heartedly agree. The best music video out there! What a love song! What a wonderful way of expressing love for your wife and daughters! Gordon has more love in his little finger than most men have in their whole body!
The poet laureat of our time. There are none better.
