The Quran states that Mecca, as with other cities to follow was converted at the point of a sword. It is not a misconception, it is fact and acknowledged by the Quran itself. Expansion of Islam throughout the Middle East, Africa and Europe reads like a horror movie. Mecca was not converted at point of sword.If people don't want to accept Islaam, they can still live in a muslim country and practice their faith but have to pay a special tax. So if a non muslim who wishes to live in a muslim land gets taxed then he's not being asked of anything more than what he would pay in a non muslim country.
