Amazing movie. The entire time I was trying to predict what was going to happen and even right before the very end of the movie where he goes into the watchtower, I still couldn't guess it right.
The director was very smart in the way they started off the movie. Right away we are informed that he is a US Marshall and if you accept that fact, you already lost. Every prediction I was making was based on the fact that he was a US marshall.... hehe

Shutter Island is real masterpiece - great acting, directing, producing, everything. Some moments were even scary. Leonardo DiCaprio is real master (Leo acts even better than Johnny Depp). Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo were great as well but I don't understand why so many people found the ending unpredictable. I predicted the ending after first 20-30 minutes. This movie is masterpiece but not as unpredictable as The Others, The Game, Identity, Fight Club, Cube 2 or The Prestige
Leonardo DiCaprio is actually a mental patient in the hospital, his wife killed his kids and he ended up killing his wife and the whole time he thinks he is a detective but everyone is just playing along with him hoping he gets his memory back.

He knows because when Chuck calls him out Ted in the end he doesnt respond....... he wanted to kill himself to get away from guilt, anger , sorrow.....emotions that made him a monster which is why he says, "Is better to die as good man or live as a monster." It isn't always about the ending. The journey is just as/if more important. I read a spoiler before i saw this film and was aware of the big drop.
But i found the whole journey to sanity as fulfilling as the big twist. There is also the twist after the drop when we viewers realise that Teddy choses being a shell of man rather then living with guilt that he murdered his wife. Bittersweet at its suffering, glorious best. 5/5

I saw this movie yesterday, and I was a very disappointed. The cinematography was great, but I wasn't emotionally connected to the characters, which is so crucial for audiences. Also, one would have to watch it at least twice to really understand the story line. BTW, Leo had the same facial expression nearly the entire film. I would rate "Shutter Island" a 5/10; a waste of time. Shame on you Leo and Scorcese!...LOL. I'm watching "Alice in Wonderland" today; oooh, can't wait for that!

I saw this movie yesterday, and I was a very disappointed. The cinematography was great, but I wasn't emotionally connected to the characters, which is so crucial for audiences. Also, one would have to watch it at least twice to really understand the story line. BTW, Leo had the same facial expression nearly the entire film. I would rate "Shutter Island" a 5/10; a waste of time. Shame on you Leo and Scorcese!...LOL. I'm watching "Alice in Wonderland" today; oooh, can't wait for that!

dont worry too much, I have seen the film and even though he left that comment, I dont think you will be able to guess the ending, I think he did tell you there is a twist, and hinted at things, but I think you can still watch it, and enjoy it

I would have been impressed if Sixth Sense, A Beautiful Mind, Secret Window, and countless of other movies and books didn't have the same twist. The twist is overdone and I was disappointed.

A wonderful Scorsese direction, an incredible production design by Dante Ferretti and a really good cinematography (as always) by Robert Richardson,
