I am English and now live in the US. Before coming to the US, I had never seen or heard of what you call 'English Muffins'. (For the people in England, they're sort of like round bread rolls / buns with a kind of holey texture, sort of almost like a crumpet, but still recognisably bread.)

When my parents came to visit, I even checked with them and they'd never seen them before either. (Yes I realise that is sad and far too much thought about this, but still.)
