  • We love Transmission and Joy Division

  • the drummer............ O_O

  • Some say they were the greatest band of all time. Their music has a power that cannot be easily described - the liner notes on one of the JD compilations come closest.

  • i love how ian gets angry at the end of almost any of his songs :)

  • Damn.

  • A real drum machine guy

  • bono slut! get th fuck out here

  • What did Bono do o.o ?

  • @UberPwnage56 In another joy division's transmission video, he came in the middle of the song and started to talk

  • DAT HI-HAT

  • awesome

  • sounds alot like interpol!!

  • @NineInchNails25 JD were a huge influence on Interpol

  • No Bono!

  • No Bono! \õ

  • Agree- fucking amazing :)

  • Utterly fucking amazing.

  • bono's official statement should be, "i will give head to any head of state / major political power, as long as i get a good picture with that person"

  • gwannn!

  • stephen morris is an ace drummer

  • 32 years later, and it is still the best music I have ever listened to.

  • Love the way ian is so inhabited by the spirit of Jim Morrison in this performance. Funny i never realised that connection until the movie "Ian Curtiss". Obvious really. But then these guys were contemporaries of a band i was in. In the same neck of the woods. Thought they were great but too close to realise until they were gone. Thank Alf this one ain't got Bono in it.

  • @taweakame what movie are you talking about?

  • Pardon shadowplay cover by the killers is on there lol

  • buy "Control".this performance and i believe shadowplay as well in on there by the killers.Movie is amazing.

  • no bono, aaaawww yeeeaaah

  • i cant see it all ..........cant see bono again........... please put the song without him

  • muy pero muy buenisima rola

  • Ian Curtis doesn't try to dance. Dance tries to Ian Curtis

    (re-post)

  • when ever i had to do creative writing in school, i'd listen to joy division to make sure it was really badass.

  • i came at 1:25

  • fastest drummer in the world.

  • well, I never saw Bono, unless he's in the crowd(where he is entitled to be),

  • @keithngc891 there is another version of this song on youtube but bono pops up in the middle of it and starts talking about joy division. it's really annoying and thats probably what the other comments are referring to.

  • im waiting for this video to download -58 secs so far- is Bono going to appear and what is a pickle smoocher fortyozjared?

  • Just yes

  • Makes me so proud to be from salford!

  • Goose bumps all over.

  • whenever i watch joy division i'm always waiting for ian to start dancing.

  • Serbia LOVES JOY DIVISION!!!

  • I love them. They were real, normal and amazing people... Poland Loves Joy Division;)

  • Brilliant band!

  • We can DAAAAAAAAAAANCE..... if we wanna; we can leave your friends behind! Because your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance, then they're no friends of mine!

  • I didn't see Bono in this...I must've blinked.

  • who cares about bono hes a pickle smoocher!

  • those three dislikes were make by bono's fans

  • Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio...

  • this song is in the albums??

  • @crassadict211

Not on the two "regular" albums...you can find it on "Still" or on the "Substance" compilation or of course as a single.

  • 2:10 <3

  • Kiiiinnnnnngggggggsssssssssssssssssss

  • Who the fuck is Bono?

  • @brotherhood45 u dun wana no...

  • Rest In Paradesio IAN

  • cannot say it any louder than others - but fuck off bono you twat

  • seeing Ian is sad makes me want to cry

  • There isn't enough space on the Internet to express how much of a cunt Bono is.

  • @YouPubeist agreed

  • @YouPubeist Yup, it would have to be the size of the largest thing known to man.. Bonos' ego lol

  • @YouPubeist ha well saidx friggin hate the tosser!

  • @YouPubeist ..lol..your right there isnt..but spray paint it on every wall u see..i will cover midlands..BONO CUNT will be sufficient

  • @YouPubeist Amen sister!

  • @YouPubeist That is retarded. I think if you watch October era U2 Bono was heavily influenced by Ian Curtis. Regardless of how big they have become they had similar beginnings.

  • @YouPubeist i think there are better people to hate than bono, lighten up on the guy.

  • @KazakageoftheSand probably but he isnt really hating him dude ^^ he just mentioned that bono is a cunt, who wants to get everywhere in.. he's so fckin commercial and then he appears in this awesome video.. thats just annoying.. so gaara i hope i got u out of darkness :D:D

  • @THug0001 calling the man a cunt is indeed hating on him. i admit bono ruined the song.. but an interview with anyone would have ruined the song. talking of any kind would have. i like bono, in fact. i like u2. that's just me. and fuck you, i made this username 3+ years ago :P when i was like 13

  • @YouPubeist amen

  • @YouPubeist is it bono's fault that somebody put this in this video? i ges not!

  • @YouPubeist

    lol. really a brilliant comment.

  • @YouPubeist Save what space there is for praise of Joy Division!

  • You can see the poain & sadness in Ians face behind the agro. So sad.

  • Whoever said Interpol ripoff is either the dumbest person ever to comment on this video or a big troll. I'm placing my bet on the former.

  • fucking aye...dance ian...i love this song

  • Excuse me... An interpol ripoff?? Joy division came first buddy.

  • who ever pushed that like button needs to get my fist driven through their head.

  • Fucking Bono. Ian would never have turned out to be the self-absorbed celebrity sell-out piece of trash that you became. He was pure.

  • we have only record shops left.

  • Namu Amida Budsu for Ian Curtis.

  • Drummer is KILLIN it, great performance!!

  • why are yous all saying fuck off bono this vid doesnt have him on it.try watching this one right through.

  • @geordiejen He was in another vid for this song. Fucking ruined the experience! Had to hunt for this one without his ugly mug and stupid opinions!

  • I take it that when this was transmitted on TV, U2 were promoting another one of their over rated shitty fucking albums!

  • I mean *IN* fucking everything.

  • bono is fucking everything.

  • that really is awful that Bono magically appears towards the end of this video - he's one of the last people i would ever want to associate with joy division - let alone most anything i like

  • Can't someone fucking edit out fucking bono from these vids I don't want to his face or hear about him when I want to listen to real fucking music.

  • What performance is this?

  • Just listen en see.

Who the fuck are we to judge?

    Be glad you have ear

  • shivers an shivers

  • and we can... DANNNNNNNNNccccce !

  • @everyone dont talk dance to the radio

  • adore such waffle it`s more fun than the vids, pomposity is an epidemic on this `site lol

  • Shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. How about that?

  • And,the fact that I couldn't "prove" how I'm right would unfortunately have nothing to do with being unable to logically progress, but because your whole view on things in life ptobably wouldn't allow you to draw the inference needed to see how my premises are useful. It's funny how people mock others for using their mind in a particular way while they aren't as proficient at it. If I'm flexing intellectual muscle in an uncool way, you're flexing an inferiority complex covered in savvy rhetoric.

  • i ♥joy divison

  • why is bono in this?

  • Very cool...This song was first written before they were joy division...they were known as Warsaw...

  • thank god Bono never popped up in the middle of this one.......thanks lelocomotion. Good vid.

  • who the fuck is bono?

  • i fucking hate bono! where can i find a video of this that doesnt have that fagget in it?

  • j'adore !ca me rapelle ma jeunesse lol

    putain cool

  • Keep Bono away from Joy Division pleeeeease!

  • funny,..but true...

  • ok---let's be rational here. U2 are a decent band. but with all due respect, they don't touch joy division.

  • who's bono? xD

  • ever heard of google?

  • @rocktotally0wns

    hahahaha :D :D

    well said

  • FUCK BONO!!!

    that little Wank!!

    FAKING TWAT!

i hope one day u throw a shoe at bonos face!

  • @BTKJON213

  • @JonoWeekes May 18! (Today) <3

  • joy division yeahh

  • @BTKJON213 Hopefully that shoe will be full of concrete!

  • I hope Bono dies in an earthquake.

  • Maclesfield Ya fuckin twats

  • fuck bono with a splintered two by four...

long may the dead body of Ian Curtis hang in our thoughts and minds...

  • @bigpanthis

    lol...hang

  • bono sucks!

  • @SpringSessionZen what a great and very true thing to say, thank you

  • @SpringSessionZen, I'd disagree completely. Musically, I think it takes a strong mind to accept what they're doing, but I'm certain most weak, fragile minds could relate to his writings. Curtis evidently was willing to give up. You feel that in the sound (more so in Closer. but, still, in UP). His writings were that of a weak-minded person.

  • Comment removed

  • @SpringSessionZen,...Over analyze? I would have called that bare-minimal analysis, but, fine. Again, their music definitely as you would describe. But I would say Curtis was weak-minded (not that's bad, musically. it always seems to make for more effective music) and that his lyrics were highly pre-determined, preferred views that he was too weak to not want to believe. You just wrote what you felt? That could be said about everything. I'm still going to analyze it, regardless.

  • @Sudhish86 Yup, you summed up yourself perfectly.......''regardless''.

  • @SpringSessionZen, if someone says something I disagree with that was very emotionally-induced, that has no affect on whether or not it's accurate. It's still a statement I find inaccurate...What was the point of posting if you aren't willing to deal with someone who responds to you? If you just wanted to say something or express yourself, I did, too, just in response to what you wrote. boohoo?

  • @Sudhish86,

Oh dear, a babbling nerd with a well polished soap box whose modesty is second to none.......

  • @fralust, I think what I do through causation. Besides, what part of my writings was immodest? Or, are you, as a stupid person, predetermined to try to bring down anyone who comes across as thinking they know something--regardless if they do or not--because they don't know how they even could make more sense of it, and, so, therefore, HE must be the one in the wrong?

Or, does the fact that it was "emotional" mean he's immune from something? If so, I wasn't aware...

  • @Sudhish86,

It's merely a pop music video, dear boy. No more no less.

"Intelligent" debate is always welcome in many spheres, even that of the ersatz Socratic dilettante stripe. You are a either a video game playing, failed philosophy student, or a jobless graduated one who, pontificating, loves nothing more than the sound of his own voice.

Again, allow me to remind you - this is a pop music video. Can you not bore others senseless on perhaps a Marx or Nietzsche forum...?

    Many thanks.

  • @fralust, anything that exists in reality is under "intelligent" debate (Idk what you mean by intelligent debate, since, if it's not intelligent, it must be some moron fest for no clear purpose). Your personality guesses are pretty good, but not right. I was a professional gamer who later fropped out of college ( business admin). If you're not going to approach something "intelligently", why approach it at all? If you're looking for very shallow emotional satisfaction, then don't go public.

  • Also, I'm clearly not boring you as you have interest in me/ something of mine. I had no idea people couldn't talk about the mundane with any sort of philosophical questioning. Forgive me for wanting to and being a step ahead. Also, you and I both know that JD's music is more meaningful than "pop" music. That was an outright self-lie to justify combatting a reasonable response to someone. But bitter, emotional responses are expected when you assert yourself smartly. Boo hoo. ;(

  • @Sudhish86,

Forgot to ask you a few questions.

Do you like this Joy Division song? If so, what meaning did you glean from it? And if you don't like it, what meaning do you get from that?

    Remember......it's only pop music.......

    Cheers!

  • And, yes, I like this song. I like almost everything of JD's.

I don't find this particular one to have distinct meaning. Like a lot of the songs which came from their early stages, their understanding of music while conceiving them wasn't as refined as in later work. But, because punk was their inspiration, a lot of their songs were just their attempt at audio energy and vibe. Transmission is just an anthem for uncontemplated expressive behavior. It just to make you have fun, really.

  • Also, Zen not wanting to have to deal with future responses because of fear of them being negative speaks to his weak-mindedness. I'm not arrogant/ unreasonable. He's clearly just far at the other end of the spectrum; so, if you're merely comparing assertiveness and not actually considering what's said, it can easily seem like I'm a big ole meany. But I'm not. He's just...fragile. And if anyone has an emoticon featuring someone scrunching their nose, that would be fantastic.

  • @mydearSudhish86,

You are not unintelligent, yet appear to have the immutable, garrulous trappings of youth in thinking you're more intelligent than you are. Hopefully you'll grow out of it, as supercilious bitchiness is never becoming.

You flex your intellectual muscle on YT (no mean feat!) which is akin to shooting fish in a barrel or being a pearl amongst pigshit. I know. Trust me.

Or you're a brightish guy who has no outlet so posts myriad comments..??

I may have a side job for you.

  • @fralust, you're using language to come across as being at a higher level of some sort, despite that being your only display of it. using "dear" in your addressing is simply you only superficially being "above" in some way. I don't see why it matters where you post comments and to what extent you analyse. I know others do, but that's no reason for me to stop. Because it seems uncool is only because the majority believing that are mentally lazy and think not thinking is desirable...be my guest...

  • Also, it's only relative if you're not an intuitive person. Subjectivity doesn't mean the reality is whatever you want to believe it to be; it just means it takes inference. People who think otherwise will never draw deep enough inferences. This goes for anything about which you can sense something of any kind. Music is no different.

  • You're obviously trying to combat explanation with superficial appeal. You know it. Your whole rhetoric-oriented responses make it plain. If you had anything meaningful to say, you would say it. People who avoid logical consideration always convince themselves they're doing things right because of how well they do in the world of human construct and always combat explanation with rhetoric. You're not doing anything differently; so, I'll just stick with your inferiority-complex..

  • @dearestSudhish86,

Myriad full posts in a short space; your loquaciousness matches both your ego, self-righteousness and self doubt. It is noteworthy that you forever tell yourself (no less) of your "superiority." Self praise, dear boy, is no praise.

It's a terrible shame when relatively intelligent people are more preoccupied with being "right" than anything else, don't you find?

No-one is asking you to stop your blah blah on a pop video. No doubt you could do it on a cookery/DIY video!

  • @fralust, it's only loquacious if you don't find music important to human psychology and analysis. I find good qualities of music to serve different positive purposes, if you're simply not closed to taking things from it. To those who explore musical ideas, it's essentially discussing philosophy through some avenue of distortion, for the fun challenge. I don't have a superiority complex; most others just have some form of an inferiority complex. They don't explore anything.

  • @goodSudhish86, you say:

"Also, it's only relative if you're not an intuitive person. Subjectivity doesn't mean the reality is whatever you want to believe it to be; it just means it takes inference."

Please google "private eye pseuds corner." It should be the 4th link down.

I'll sent your entry in and we'll split the prize! Whaddya say?!

How do you and I "know" that Joy Division's music is more meaningful than "pop" music."? Could be a big ruse...?

    Don't take yourself too seriously....

  • @fralust, Idk what to make of PEPC. If you're trying to give me an illustration of myself, I simply can't agree that I'm being pretentious. I don't even believe in the idea of people or things "deserving" things. It's always pointless non sequiturs or uncontemplated impulse. It could be a ruse. Technically, anything can be anything. But if you're not open to the idea that everything you can sense is information working towards understanding our ultimate purpose, you won't see the premise.

  • @fralust, have you ever played a game? Have you ever read your opponent and knew what his decisions meant? It's the same process adapted to human psychology-and-sounds. Why do you infer things about my personality? Because you think you have information regarding it. You're not right. But, you're doing the process you're meant to.

Also, i don't know how to respond to yours on my analysis of this song. Clarify and I'll be able to.

  • @Sudhish86, have I ever played a game, ask you?

Does chutes and ladders count.....? Man, was I good! Some say the best.

Mind if I ask you a completely unrelated question? What's your take on The Third Reich and Neo-Nazis today? Humor me.

And in all seriousness, Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" may well be just about the greatest pop song ever created. In my humble opinion.

  • Here you are again, using simply rhetoric. It's funny how dumb people think they're getting around questions by trying to turn the tables in a different way. It's not working, brah. You're clearly working hard to not have to at all.

Neo-nazis? I don't think much of them, honestly. I don't see them having any potential to grow into something remotely significant. As smart as they could be, everyone views Nazi Germany as the worst thing ever. There is no avenue to relevence now.

  • @suduko,

Of course I've played a game. What do you think I'm doing now, ya daft mare?!

The Nazis were a shower of cunts. As are their latter day admirers.

  • @fralust, also, I'm glad the real you came out. You're not a savvy person as you were trying to convey. You're just a dumb person who's bitter towards people who claim to know something you've been too cowardly and stupid to figure out. Again, cry me a river. You're the kind of person who lets himself get trampled. You're weak. That's why you wanted to stand by Zen earlier on. Just a weak, coward, low-level person who doesn't know how to figure anything out. ;(

  • @sudukotheboy,

Who or what the fuck is Zen? You're not going Buddhist on me, are you?

Anyway, never mind all the ranting, angry insults. Cast aside your rage and accept my friend invite. I have a genuine proposition you're certain to find interesting. If not, simply remove the friend status and I will not offer it again.

Whaddya say? Won't hurt to try. I assure you I'm perfectly serious.

  • @fralust, I've been rather unemotional since you came onto me. If anyone has shown raging fits, your last set of posts to me are what will fit. Also, I prefer having people who are dumber than me be my enemies in the online world. If YOU are genuinely interested in e-friending me, you need to crank up your leverage quite a bit. I know you're serious. Weak-minded people always want to ignore things and just be friends. I do them favors by putting my foot on their throat, instead.

  • @suduko,

You consider me your enemy?! Remarkable! All I did (in a genial fashion) was highlight your floral prose, garrulousness, and self appointed intellectual status.

In fact, the latter aspect cries uncertainty re your intellect as you are forever harping on unsolicited about it. Like some chest pounding ape who then gobbles up his own waste in a show of bravado. And who/what is Zen?

I will address your grievance re being up to your standards in a later post. I'm very nervous.

  • @fralust, you're clearly my enemy. You're trying to break my back because you're a stupid little person who has nothing but reason to be modest and bitter. Self-appointed intellectual status? What are you talking about? Another thing you're making up. But, based on this conversation, I have, yes, been a bit more intellectuall-oriented. You've been going strictly on social-inferences. That's what one-dimensional people do. Also, I've not been inclined to "beat my chest". I've been emotionless.

  • @Sudhish86,

I am not your "enemy", but merely trying to imbibe a smattering of humility and a sense of humor in you. It appears I'm failing.

You say I'm "trying to back your back." Naaah, I'm just busting your chops, and if I wanted to break your back, I would've done it a while ago. I'm being nice to you right now.

I have taken nothing you've said to me personally and trust you have also. How about you and I bury the hatchet and you hear me out.

Don't like it? Tell me to fuck off.

  • @fralust, I don't even regard humility/ arrogance. They're both extraneous to my ultimate concerns. But, if you're going to try to get me to show a sense of humor, you'll have to do it in a much more clever way. You're playing ABC social interaction. It's generic, predictable, and transparent. Not interesting at all. Also, you were trying to break my back. Don't lie. You were really eager to break me down. Right now you've learned your ways can't do anything to me. That's the difference.

  • @fralust, also "Love will tear us apart" is clearly a minority in their catalog. If you can't come to see that, I don't know why you're interested in Joy Division in the first place. The vast majority of their songs weren't concieved as being pop songs, no matter how well they might have worked as one. Generally, pop songs are songs which seem exciting(on a dumb level), but have minimal emotional attachment to artist. Two properties indicating why they weren't designed as "pop" music.

  • @Sudoku68, Oh stop being such a pompous ass. I will not deign to argue with you re the merits of one song compared with another. Are you in high school? And you wonder why I call you my boy?

If Joy Division are not pop music, then what the Devil are they? Did they cure cancer, poverty and racism while I was taking a shower?

Who said: they weren't designed as "pop" music."

    You.....?

    Apparently.

  • @fralust, pompous ass? No. I'm just not going to say I'm wrong when it's clearly not the case. Cry me a river for not knowing how to think on an easy level.

What is it? As a whole, JD is simply good punk ( as opposed to post-punk). It's quite different from "pop" music. Because if you listen to Curtis and listen to their arrangements, they're clearly usually trying to make vivid, soulful music. It's easy to see how it's not designed to be pop music. You can figure it out. Stop being a coward.

  • @Sudukowhoispuzzled,

There you go again with your little collection of boxes, you silly tart. "Post punk, pre punk, ad hoc punk, existential punk, blah, blah, blah.

You claim JD are NOT "pop music", but are in fact "good punk."

Well, is punk (good or bad?) in fact not a genre of popular music? Or is it sculpture? Or brass rubbing?

It sounds as if you were still sloshing around in your ol' man's ball bag when punk first hit the scene. But now you're a self appointed expert on it.

    Ha!

  • @fralust, "Pop" music is generally meant to mean what's on the most mainstream radio stations. (ie the stations whose only concer is making money). I suppose punk is popular, but its consumer group isn't "mainstream". I don't claim to be an "expert", I'm just someone who knows a lot about the creative, psychological, and logistic areas of music. I don't see why I shouldn't think so when everyone else seems to not catch as much as I do.

  • @suduko,

So. It's established that punk IS a branch of pop (popular) music, and not some namelless entity beyond its borders. To get here, a full 180 was necessary, You waffled, bucked and pontificated (well, you still do!), but we did it! Well done!

But you're still digging your well worn heels in with extraordinary - and rather amusing - statements like: "I'm just someone who knows a lot." Priceless

All you need is a red nose and a flower that squirts water.

    Fool of a boy.

  • @fralust, ? I still contend punk is not "pop" music. it's a popular kind of music, but not "pop" I told you punk is not pop, because of its consumer group. Where does this enthusiasm come from? I'm not digging my heals. I'm just giving you my reason for not being modest on this particular issue. I love how people judge ability through personality inference...As if that even made sense. I'm not modest. And? What? All talented people are also modest in their area? Pfft.

  • @Sudhish86,

Muhammad Ali was immodest, but boy did he have some talent and charisma! Regardless of whether you're a boxing fan, this is undeniable. Me? Neither modest or immodest. Merely "me." Besides, singing one's praises isn't my thing, particularly on such a simple topic as pop music. No different to food - some you like, some you don't. Just personal taste.

I'm only acting the goat. Trust me and hear me out. Your talent and immodesty (not without foundation!) will be a boon.

  • @fralust. Food is not comparable to music. Food preference is based off inherent, uncontrolled natural senses. Music preference can have (if you're actually smart) more dimension to it than however you naturall are. It's for the same reason some people are just better at life than others. They know to be different, expand, and take on more facets. It's the typical process of any willed evolution. I don't prefer a lot of music which is good. But my preference is different than what
