  • They should have kept this as their opening theme, and they should have kept the first Chris (Jeremy was so much better).

  • Does anyone else find it irritating (and bitchy) that Susan Dey refuses to have anything to do with The Partridge Family nowadays? I'm sorry, but that old hag needs to stop being ashamed of what happened back when and just join everyone else in some good memories.

  • David Cassidy was a cutey!

  • i hated this song so bad.. i dug the show tho

  • people pls tell me why this show is not on t.v. land.i mean andy griffth is on 12 times a day ,u think they could slip in a time slot for this really cool show,i mean come on.

  • I agree 100%

  • Ditto!! Why doesn't TV Land have their show on? Makes no sense what so ever!!

  • Agree!

  • I'm all for that. People lets ban together to get this on cable-satelite-computer land, anything visual. Around the world.

  • Was that Johnny Cash introducing them? How cool is that!!!

  • Awesome. This one has a psychedelic flavor to it.

  • Nice - thank you for posting! For years I didn't know the title of this song. This was the original opening in Peru during the 70's, before C'mon Get Happy appeared.

  • definitely a more 60s- sounding song...cool way to open the series.

  • i took my first acid trip to this song! sock it to me!

  • Great Video--thanks for posting!!

  • Thankyou.

  • Do you know where I can find the song about "Albuquegue" ? I Still LOVE the Partridge Family's Talent after ALL these years. Shows like this, is one of the Reasons I Always Loved America.

  • It's called "Point Me".

  • Thankyou

  • I didn't hear much of David on "On The Road" either. These were early songs, so maybe the TV execs weren't aware of David's singing talent yet. Or maybe he IS there, just buried way down in the mix.

  • I believe that in one of those Behind the Music or True Hollywood Story it said that this is the only Partridge song that its all studio musicians and not David Cassidy singing!!

  • I just discovered how great the Cowsills are recently, the Partridge Family is based on the Cowsills! I keep watching Cowsills videos on youtube, they are really good!

  • I luv their van!

  • LOVE THIS SONG.

  • According to the show's producer Bob Claver, they were thinking of not renewing Jeremy's contract for 2nd season primarily due to his mother, not him. Apparently she was a real pain in the ass that made trouble for the producers and crew, and was super demanding. Danny & David definitely didn't get along with Jeremy, but Shirley, Susan, Suzanne and Dave Madden all liked him. Associate producer Mel Swope has also confirmed that Jeremy's mother was the main problem in interviews.

  • whatever-- this was the kind of music that a 9 year old future musician could relate to. i did, and i liked this song alot--still do.

    peace,

    ro-

  • "Loud obnoxious black people on TV" ... does that reference include Diahann Carroll on "Julia"? Speaking as a black person who can occasionally be loud and obnoxious but isn't on TV, I had ALL the Partridge Family LPs when I was a kid and still love this music. And as a country music fan, it's a gas to see the Man in BLACK :-) introducing them in the pilot -- I forgot that part. Take that, Pbmax.

  • No racists remarks on my videos please.

  • I love the partridge family:)

why is there no season 3 on dvd!!!!?!

  • Season 3 looks to be released on October WooHoo!!!

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!

    where did you hear this!?

    LINK ME!

  • Fantastic tune, as are most P.F. tunes.

I'm pretty sure Shirley sang back-up on many of the songs - that was certainly her lead vocal on Whale Song. Why wouldn't they use her voice, she was practically operatic.

  • 'Cause they were trying to be hipper featuring David Cassidy to appeal to the young ones, not the hippies, BTW.

  • Singers I meant....ha ha but maybe they were songers..hey that is a new word !!

  • Shirley Jones never sang on any of the songs....professional songers were brought in to make you think she did. David Cassidy even said that.

  • Nauseating

  • Does anyone know the story behind getting Johnny Cash to do the intro?

  • I remember the night it debuted-yes I do and I'm old. SO many memories-and the Man in Black himself to introduce them. Johnny Cash always looked pissed...you don't look happy singing about prison and dope. LOL

  • I wish wearing fancy collars was still in...

  • I dont think any of the cast sang in this song.....but is a great time travel song. I miss Johny!!

  • Shirley Jones reminds me of Hillary Clinton, of course being Shirley much better.

  • I remember taping this with my cassette recorder so I could listen to it when I wanted to. Never saw it on vinyl, but got in on their greatest hits CD a few years ago. Great stuff.

  • It doesn't even really sound like David's voice on this track. My older sister had ALL of their albums. I think it was the first album that had their birth dates on it... my younger sister's birthday was the same as Tracy's... March 6. Fun stuff!

  • no one had a comment in over 4 months???--great song-great group!!

  • did prince have a thing for Ms. Partridge?

  • Did prince like the partridge family?

  • no one had a comment in over a month?--This is great stuff

  • awesome!!!!

  • I love it!

    Johnny Cash introduces them!!

The Partridge Family then performs a nice song!!!

It does not get any better than that!!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • great song!!

  • This was the opening theme of the first episode only. Afetr that, the first season has its own theme, followed by a different version to the same music. DVD is available on Amazon. Great stuff for lip syncing. Cassidy sung, the others did not.

  • Um, with all due respect, Shirley Jones sang too -- OF COURSE. You can hear her sweet alto-soprano in the background voices usually in direct harmony w/ her true-life stepson David Cassidy. After all, she was previously the international star of Oaklahoma! on stage and film and 30 other films before the TV show!

  • one of my favorite Partridge Family songs

  • this song is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think david cassidy was lip synching to another song.

  • David Cassidy was SUCH a hottie !

  • Was this the original opening sequence of the series before the animated version?

  • Yeah, it was the opening of the first show ever.

  • Most Impressive, Young Skywalker. I give a 88 and you can dance to it.

  • I am "having a ball" watching these PF clips--thanks :-)

  • You're welcome. :-)

  • Awesome--There have been very few shows with hit songs in them--this and The Monkees!!!

  • When Johnny Cash turns just as he announces them, he looks really pissed off!

  • Johnny Cash looked pissed quite a bit actually. I dont think he meant anything by it.

  • LOL! Crough!

  • I still want for David Cassidy!

  • Thanks for posting this! Thanks so much!! Totally love this show and David Cassidy

  • still a great song

  • AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh slds;ofhakghkdhgkdahgldsfgbgjfb

I love it so much when he says "doing things" and there's a close up of his face. He is so absolutely gorgeous! I wish he had stayed 19 forever!

  • Oh...David Cassidy!!! Swoon!

I love this! Thank god for DVDs!!!

  • I,ll be damned---I never knew dave cassidy didnt sing the lead on havin a ball! the real band never did get the credit they should have...I wonder if they got money from record sales? And I wonder how jack cassidy really died in that mysterious fire?

  • I never thought I'd ever see this again. Thanks to whoever posted it, I loved the show very much!!!!

  • Cash looks like he's saying to himself "What the fuck am I doing this stupid show for?"

  • johnny cash was the one who done the intro to them god i miss that man

    thanks

  • great song

  • Yes! Awesome!!!!!

  • I loved this song too and it was never on an album.

  • Its on thier Greatest Hits. Just search for it on Amazon. :-)

  • they just released a greatest hits album (CD) with this on it

  • I love this song as I loved the TV show

  • I used to love this show. I once won the "Help Susan" contest in their magazine and won a record, five bucks and my name in the mag. It made my year.

  • Dig that intro from the late Johnny Cash!

  • Can someone please post "Bandala" and "Brand New Me"?

  • One of my favorite PF songs

  • toke upa n shake the tamborine ...hell yeah MESCALINE KICKS IN..

  • Danny said that the kid on the drums was a rotten brat on the set. Thats why he was replaced by that blonde haired kid.

  • Jeremy Gebwalks akd Chris # 1 was a "High Strung" kid who didn't know how to sit down for long periods of time. Even if he hadn't gotten fired, his family moved out of California. He was at last report a successful businessman in New Orleans, and he's not half as "bratty" as DB.

  • I know everyone loved David, but when I was a kid I liked Chris #1 the best. When they got rid of him and called the blond-haired kid "Chris" I couldn't understand it. I just had a feeling that something was beginning to rot in Denmark.

  • Chris #1 Jeremy Gelbwaks was going to leave the show because his family was leaving California because of his father's job. It was a blessing in disguise because they were going to fire him anyway. Brian Forster aka Chris # 2 was actually in an Old School Sequence of Sesame St. and he played a classmate of Cindy Brady on The Brady Bunch when Cindy couldn't decide whom to invite to see her in the School Play.

  • Danny Bonaduce once said that The Partridge Family were the original Milli Vanilli. It's sad to know that still after 35 Years, he can't shake his "You're not a Child Star" Anymore Syndrome.

  • That "syndrome" was kicking his ass for awhile but now I think Bonaduce has grown beyond that "child star syndrome" stage.

  • Check out Danny at 0:19. He really plays a mean bass, doesn't he?

  • Rueben Kincaid and Danny were the Abbott and Costello of the 70's. Nothing could top Danny's impish grin...well, maybe the transistor radio playing out of Laurie's braces...but that's it!

  • This is from the pilot episode tape in the fall of 1969, one year before hte series was picked up> Also it isnt even Shirley Jones and David Cassidy singing liek in future songs. I think its studio singers

  • Doesn't the organ opening remind you of "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys? Also did you know that David Cassidy sold 20 Million Albums in four years but only made $15,000.00 US.

  • Funny you mention the Beachboys check out David Cassidy singing Darlin' here on Utube. Also Tony Usher wrote with Brian Wilson as well as for Partridge family :-)

  • If "Sesame Street" ever decides to do a "Partridge Family" parody group, this should be the lineup:

Olamide Faison: Lead Vocals, Lead Guitars

    Desiree Casado: Vocals, Piano, Percussion

    Sean Sanders: Vocals, Bass

    Michael Glickman: Vocals, Drums

    Jessica Peters: Vocals, Tambourine, Percussion

    Loretta Long: Vocals, Keyboards, Tambourine

  • I remember watching this the first time around as an 8 yr and loved it then. I still love the 70's music and so do my children

  • Danny's my favorite. for sure.

  • LOVE this song!

  • Danny Bonaduce's bass lines are awesome! A regular John Entwhistle (I'M KIDDING). I like the song, but there aren't any David Cassidy vocals on it. Some of the real early stuff he didn't sing on.

  • What happened was that Screen Gems had hired David Cassidy, actor. They didn't have any idea that he could sing or of the David Cassidy mania that would follow. So they had some songs sung by studio singers already produced. Once they realized what they had in David Cassidy, they put him on the leads.

  • I know. As silly as it sounds, Screen Gems didn't know their main actor could sing. There are still some songs on the 1st album (The Partridge Family Album) that don't have Cassidy vocals. Luckily, they let him sing on all the later stuff (with Shirley Jones backing him up).

  • Indeed, on the early records, the vocals were done by noted session singers Robin Ward, Tom Bahler, John Bahler, and Ron Hicklin.

  • Johnny Cash introducing then on the first episode? WTF?

  • At the time, The Johnny Cash Show was filmed by the same production company that made The Partridge Family (Screen Gems). . .and the real-life Cowsills DID appear on his TV show just a year before.

  • That's about 1000 times better than rap.

  • you got THAT RIGHT!

  • I forgot all about this song. It's a great "feel-good" song. Too bad it was never released. It might have done well. What's up with Susan Dey lip-synching the wrong words? Bad editing, Screen Gems. And with all the kids who auditioned for the roles of drummer boy and tambourine girl, you'd have thought they could have hired ones with at least a little bit of rhythm! David is so cute and Susan was just so pretty.

  • David Cassidy was SO hot... :D

  • So is Susan Dey. And I'm gay!

  • It IS a great song! Ironically, they released this song for the first time on CD to coincide with the DVD release of the first season. It would have blended in nicely with the group's first album, 'The Partridge Family Album' back in 1970. A great show with great music! For those of us in our forties, yes, those indeed WERE 'the good old days!'

  • check out whale song. hear the whales and shirley sing

  • The sheer joy on their faces is a thing of beauty. Check out Laurie at 0:56 -- what a shining smile.

  • I had lunch with David Cassidy. Last night, I had dinner with Suzanne Crough. She told me that everyone always agreed that she was the secret ingredient behind the huge success of the Partridge Family. After all, she whacks a mean tambourine. You can't find that kind of talent just anywhere.

  • would be great have a video of "She'd rather have the rain"!

  • i absoltely love their song "I Think I Love You" it was the first one i ever heard, and now i love them. with the lack of "feel good" music nowadays, the Patridge Family is a good refresher

  • Partridge family feel-good music is the best!

  • hellll ya

  • I'll try though I am not sure those are on my current Season One DVD. But I bought Season 2 (just waiting for it to arrive) and i'll look into it. :)

  • Excellent!!! Could you add "Summer Days", "I Think I Love You" and "I Woke Up In Love This Morning"?

  • I love your taste in video's. Thank you again.

  • No probs!

  • Even though it isn't David Cassidy singing I still like it :) And...Johnny Cash! Daaaamn...

  • Yeah same here! Haha, its strange to hear someone's singing voice over David. I am glad they eventually made him sing for real.

  • Actually I think it is David Cassidy singing. I think he and Shirley Jones were the only ones of the cast whose voices can actually be heard in the songs. Don't forget that Mr. Cassidy some successful singles as a solo artist as well.

  • No, he did not sing on some of the first season songs. I know for a fact he didn't sing on that.

  • Well, I just had lunch with him today, and we were discussing this episode, and he told me that it was definitely him singing on this song.

  • Then whoever you had lunch with lied to you :)

  • SURE U DID

  • Indeed, on the early records, the vocals were done by noted session singers Robin Ward, Tom Bahler, John Bahler, and Ron Hicklin.

  • Love it! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Aww, you're welcome. When I have the time I'll add more.

  • That'll be great. :)

  • awsome put more on

  • Sure will do! :)
