i like the idea but i wonder if you are only going to be able to hold it really Comfortably on the side the mold was made i noticed you move your pipe from side to side fairly often

I just found your channel off Dubinthedam's list. I never realized youtube had a pipe community. It's a relief to be able to get advice from actual smokers rather than some article on the net. Anyway I really like the idea for a custom stem. Since I only use wood matches to light my pipes and all the stems I have only have the bit at the very end, stability is a huge issue while trying to strike a match, hold the pipe, and get a good burn. If your idea works out well, I'll be next in line.

I agree with the mouthguard idea, where you put it in really hot water, then bite into it, repeat that 3 times (have to endure pain of hot water in mouth and pressing down hard) but once its set in perfect shape of your teeth, the actual stem tube can be made with something else, just the exterior that can be pressed on

I love the idea, but getting custom made stems seems like a huge investment. Maybe instead of unique teeth impressions, the bit could have some sort of texture that would work for all teeth no matter how, or who was clenching it. I use the rubber sleeves on my bits ...works pretty darn well.

I have to admit, that I only have two pipes in my collection and have yet to try anything but plain old English Tobacco, but I think that the idea you present here is interesting, I've have the unfortunate accident of having my pipe slip forward and then having ash sly everywhere. So I'd love to see what comes of this.

cool concept, M, but as many have already pointed out, getting a custom bit to sit at various places in your mouth might be tricky - nevertheless, if there's a will... when/if you go to sell the pipe, put on the bit that originally came with it (or have a second, regular bit made) - look forward to seeing what you & TT come up with - take care, eh! i think Yello-bole first did the "stem fit for your teeth" idea, you're talking about a much more custom idea however like others i use the "bit condom" and it works quite well.

i would go with DNA detector from the saliva from the mouth bit or a 5 fingers print recognizer on the bowl as u grap it to open the tobacco chamber,,now tht gonna be a hell of personalisation,,BTW the ne pipe is neat

I have an irregular bite myself, and I have taken to using the rubber bits on my pipes. Much more comfortable!.

i like the idea but the only problem i see with it is that you wouldn't be able to move your pipe from one side to the other which i do and also see you do fairly often. i like krayzdave's idea or maybe you could just make the stem with more to bite down on so it wouldn't slip.

this is a good concept Marc. I have custom ear buds for my SURE head phones. Especially for larger heaver pipes. This I think would be the ultimate in customization of a pipe.Are you thinking do getting this done to your new Bull dog pipe ?

Just one thought, since you like switching the pipe to either side of your mouth, would that mean that the stem would only work well on the one side of your mouth that you bit down on to create your mold? Of course you might have a perfect jaw line on each side, where i do not:)! Anyway can't wait to see it. Cheers.

good idea. to make it a situation that could fit everybody you could just make the "bumpy" in a symmetrical way. this way you would have the grippiness you needed but anyone could benefit from it....

I suggest a removable rubber bit that has the impression of the individuals bite. That way it could be used for multiple pipes. Just like a fighters mouth piece, What do you think.

I was thinking along the same lines, but had the mouthguards we had to wear for High School football in mind. They have some new ones that have a soft gel lining and a hard exterior. Something could be rigged for a pipe stem using the same materials.
