  • @eljay345 You ma be confusing "popular" with "better". Yes, lots of little girls clung to Journey records when Steve Perry entered the equation. And although on the first few albums with him, he showed great vocal ability, the fact remains the music - like everything else choreographed for the general US public - was watered down for the short attention spans, and limited taste.

Music should be created from the soul, not designed to suit the listener.

  • the original JOURNEY is the Best >>>>>>>>

  • Of course Journey with Steve Perry was awesome, and they even rock with Arnel...but to me I love this era the most. They were so heavy! First album is sooooo good!

  • They would've been known as S.R.S.... Santana Rhythm Section

  • If they had kept this formation.. they would have had success but it would be a "Mothers Finest" or "Saxon" type.. limited in scope and sales

  • They would have remained a jam band had it not been for Perry...very good, but they would have been relegated to obscurity a few years later....

  • Much Much better band before Steve Perry!

  • The best group in the WORLD!

    Play the music Load!!!!;)

  • BRAVO...... ENCORE

  • Were it not for the Fleischman/Perry revamp of Journey,

we wouldn't even be talking about "the early days".

These guys were on their way to commercial oblivion.

  • I rarely explore Journey pre-SP as their melodic rock is the signature of their music. But this performance is quite astonishing, the song is enjoyable, the guitar solos is so fresh like Neal never did before...

  • More please

  • Thanks for posting. earliest quality journey vid out here. Do you have any more

of this you can post: Of a lifetime, Look into the future next spaceman??

The new fans need to appreciate this so Neal and Ross might add a song or two from first 3 albums to current set lists. Thanx

  • What a tease you are, "Saturday night" just started to take off and .....

  • AYNSLEY FUCKING DUNBAR!!!!!!

  • @jonsilence He was soooooo awesome!!! Whats truly sad is that so many Journey fans really have no idea about him.

  • @jonsilence well said ad was truly a monster

  • I like Steve Hillages version better

  • @budsaplenty Went to same show, Somehow got fifth row center seats from Spectrum. Remember Spectrum off Big Bend. Unforgettable show. Angel was great too. When they played Tower it blew me away. Many people don't know Journey was put together with guys from Santana. This, to me is the real Journey.

  • @dabbadabbadoo1 I was there also, great show.

  • i call this a divine intervention

  • "They were such a bad-ass foursome"

  • The Best Journey line up, doing George Harrison proud. Real vocals, Real drumming. Should have stuck with this roster IMO

  • ...And no hits.

You never would have heard of Journey were it not for Fleischman/Perry.

    They needed that extra ingredient.

  • When I saw this line-up in San Francisco the Sons of Champlin opened the show.

First concert I ever went to.

  • @Fishmonger1966 What venue? I saw them , think "77 with the Sons of Champlin, Earth Quake as the opening act at the Concord Pavilion.

  • @28if I don't remember. I was only 11 years old! LOL

  • Would love to get info about getting entire show!

    :)

    Please let me know

    thanks shroomangel

I caught this tour a couple of times as well both in Oakland Ca.

  • good

  • EXCELLENT! I do believe I caught a couple of shows on this tour. Shroomange, please let me know if this concert is available for purchase? Thanks!

  • This is an amazing version of "It's all too much" by the Beatles. Listen and enjoy.

  • first time show was 3.50$ 1975 Reno NV

  • I saw Journey at the Ambasstor Theatre in St.Louis the last show there.. Angel with PUNKY opened the show... I will never forget the Spaceman walking around promoting their new album!!! A much better band before the Perry era,,,

  • AMEN, BROTHER!!!

  • Yeah, if there's any more from this concert please, please post it.

  • The song is 'It's All Too Much' from the 2nd Journey album 'Look Into the Future'.

  • wat is this song

  • Who do I have to kill in order to see the full concert? OMG, that wa too good to be true.

  • I was oh so fortunate to have seen Journey 2 times before Steve Perry joined the group. That's when Journey was a true rock and roll band. Concord Pavilion Aug 7, 1976, price $7.50. Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, Jan 15, 1977, $5.50. Amazing show!

  • Yes you were fortunate. I was too young to their gig back then. My first listen to Journey songs was in 1979.

  • DAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw them in New York at the same time, pre-arena rock clowns era and they were amazing--Dunbar in particular.

  • HA HA! You say what everyone else is thinking!

  • @IraklisTheRocker ha at that 'who do i have to kill ...?' very very funny

those of us who dug the 1st 3 discs lineup understand your desperation

    but

no violence please just some more herbage and some more original stuff

count me in those who would offer gold coins in exchange

  • How could this receive any fewer than 5 stars?

  • The real Journey only lasted 3 records because CBS execs are stoopid and wanted to make cashish. However they did record more material in the studio around the time of their first album. Look for the Charge of The Light Brigade bootleg (it is also a song), there is some amazing material there and other versions of songs that ended up on the first record. And with Prairie Prince still on drums I believe.

  • I WANT TO SEE THIS ENTIRE SHOW!!!!!

  • OMG, pre perry footage!

  • the difference between greg rolie and steve perry is the same difference between pink floyd and kiss, i prefer pink floyd, thats why i prefer rolie

  • @r4scuache Did you prefer the pre-Perry Rollie with no hits,

or the Perry-era Rollie who sang lead or co-lead on several Journey hits?

  • This Beatles-cover is the worst song on my all time favourite Journey album "look into the future".

  • "Saturday night" is also from "look into the future"

  • shroomangel i cannot believe you foundfootage of the REAL Journey. I will do anything for a copy of the entire concert! Incredible music, and Neil's fro and fu manchu!

  • The REAL Journey. Thank you!!!

  • It's great seeing the pre-Steve Perry lineup in concert...

  • Yes Please share the rest of the show. I've been wanting to see a Journey show from this era jazz rock 1975-1977 is only great and the longggg guitar solos very cool share please more.

  • Please share the rest of the show. I've been wanting to see a Journey show from this era.

  • Steve Perry made them multi-millionaires and household names. Oh, and they actually sold some records with him.

  • Ahh...the old 'quantity over quality' argument...some of the best bands in the world didn't sell a lot of records but wrote some incredible songs that actually TOUCHED people. I'lll go along with everyone else that says they want a copy of this show.

  • Steve Perry was a Virus to a good thing. Steve Perry turned Journey into Cheerleader Music!

  • @hdwhoa LOFL! Bingo--well said!

  • Please consider splicing together all of the guitar solos. I will pay big $ :^P

  • Why don't you contact me? Click on my username and send me an email.

  • All they need is Steve Perry and they'll be good.

  • All they really need is Gregg Rollie,Neil Schon and Ross Valory as far as I am concerned.

  • @MyhoganyRush Right, if they just wanted to play shows to a West Coast audience.

If they wanted to sell records and play the biggest venues in the world, umm, they needed something extra.

  • are you kidding?!?!?!? They were so much better before SP joined the group

  • @pfeltovich If they were so much better before Steve Perry joined then why were they not getting radio play before he joined? Their then record label was going to dump them because they couldn't get radio play.Herbie Herbet their then manager insisted Steve Perry become their new lead singer and the rest as they say is history!!!

There is no denying that fact!!!
