And some died in crossfire exchanges too. That is what resulted in all those deaths. Those crematoria and "gas chambers" were constructed by the Allies after the war. THEN Germany attacked Russia. He was wounded in the hand and a Sergeant told him he should try his luck as a sniper and he gave him a russian sniper rifle. @SpringfieldMusketeer Actually Springfield, the Waffen SS were also not the responsible ones. There were two sections of teh SS referred to as the Guards and the Einsatzkommandos (four or them) who where responsible for the "security" arrangments that involved rounding up the Jews (and others) and the guarding them in the camps. There were only ever less than 20,000 personnel that served in those units. With so few involved, it was possible to keep the it all so secret.
@SpringfieldMusketeer This subset of the SS were responsible for the network of KL (labour camps) and KZ (concentration camps), There were not many of them and the were assisted by the hirelings known as the Trawniki guards, mostly from Ukrainian, Polish and Baltic volunteers. The Waffen SS were strictly a military elite much like the US Marines are fancied, thrown in perform miracles that were sometimes necessary.

1. In 1919 Polish forces had captured all of that formerly Czarist area in which so many of the Russian Jews lived, and became Polish Jews. The Jews were -- as can be verified -- a major part of the Bolshevik revolution. When the opportunity arose, in 1939 Stalin RECOVERED those land to the Soviet (formerly Russian and Ukrainian) domain. Poles won't agree, but that's not the point.
2. The Jews in that "eastern Poland" area had favoured the Bolsheviks and the Soviets because the Leninist Constitution gave them equal right, The Poles did not with much of the political class, especially Roman Dmowski virulently anti-jewish.
3. In 1939, the Polish (formerly Russian/Ukrainian before 1919) sided with Stalin's repatriation and were the avant guard of the predominantly jewish NKVD in helping decapitate the Polish upper class in those areas for Stalin.
4. Most of them immediately signed on as Soviet citizens and joined the Red Army. Many joined the NKVD and took over for themselves the upper positions in the eastern towns and villages, the new upper class.
5. When the Germans then attacked these Jews stayed to fight as "Soviet partisans" to keep their gains. They formed the core of the Partisan's behind the German lines, so the anti-Partisan war by the Wehrmacht was fought against these (brave) people.
6. When the Wehrmacht rounded up (quelled) partisan activity in villages (Czarist until 1919, Polish 1919 to 1939 and Soviet after 1939) they found themselves rounding up Jews, not as part of the Jewish extirpation programs, but as anti-partisan guerilla warfare. It a VERY messy history, but there it is.
7. After the war the Poles counted these pre-1939 Jews as "Polish Jews" while the Soviets counted them as "Soviet Jews" based on their pre-1919 and post 1939 status. .

not sure if I agree with these numbers, history channel had German snipers at an average of over 500 kills each, those kills were verified by the Russians who found the diaries of German snipers so 180 would not be a big deal for a German sniper, I guess no one knows the real truth. and in WW1 allies lost 40,000 a month to German snipers alone.
the kills listed here were only kills that were confirmed by officers and the shots had to be fired in an ambush. the snipers killed a lot of enemies when they were defending but these did not count. and sometimes even officers were jealous because of the sniper's success and didn't confirm the kill. and another point is that most snipers threw a way the lists of their kills, because snipers were always tortured and killed if caught by the enemy. so the numbers aren t exact.

@lilbabykush Even more to the point, there were many SS units that were strictly used for fighting duties and had little to do with the camps. Check out the terms Waffen SS, translation = weapon SS. Allgemeine SS = general SS. The Waffen SS were combatants, and fought on the front lines. The Allgemeine SS were the guys that ran the camps and the death squads. The lines do blur, but most people can't/won't make the distinction.

The soviet system was to blame, they literally threw men into battle without any arms, ammunition and even clothing sometimes. Go figure. No other race on this planet would have endured and survived what they went through. The russians are the most resilent humanbeings alive. I love Germany. I love the German military styles/tactics of WWII. I am happy, however, that Germany lost the war. I love their guns, I love their style, uniform, attitude, and many other things. But i do NOT love the slaughter of innocents, and the iron-fist ruling style of Hitler.

THEN Germany attacked Russia. The reason why, I guess, Germany declared war on the USA was that the USA supported all the enemies of Germany with arms etc. (even the Russians fought in some cases with us-american weapons).

The US's government had been against Germany's actions ever since Hitler was voted as supreme commander in 1933. They would not recognise the Empire's new borders in 39-40-41, would continuously support the Empire's enemies(the British especially) through the Lend-Lease act, stripped the German citizens in the US from their rights, and so forth.
These are just a few of the reasons of why Hitler could no longer ignore Roosevelt's actions and was forced to declare total war on the US.

Josef Sepp Allerberger also used a captured sniper rifle in the beginning of his sniping. He was wounded in the hand and a Sergeant told him he should try his luck as a sniper and he gave him a russian sniper rifle. Later he went to a sniping school and was received a self-loading Model 43 (known as Gewehr)

In the entire two years I spent in Vietnam as a correspondent , north as well as south, I never once heard of so much as a rumour of direct Russian personnel involvement in direct operations. They (and others like the East Germans) were there in a training capacity for sure, and all supported Vietnam with medical personnel and service, Please take me to a reliable source for proof of intentional direct combat activity.

@SpringfieldMusketeer Actually Springfield, the Waffen SS were also not the responsible ones. There were two sections of teh SS referred to as the Guards and the Einsatzkommandos (four or them) who where responsible for the "security" arrangments that involved rounding up the Jews (and others) and the guarding them in the camps. There were only ever less than 20,000 personnel that served in those units. With so few involved, it was possible to keep the it all so secret.

@SpringfieldMusketeer This subset of the SS were responsible for the network of KL (labour camps) and KZ (concentration camps), There were not many of them and the were assisted by the hirelings known as the Trawniki guards, mostly from Ukrainian, Polish and Baltic volunteers. The Waffen SS were strictly a military elite much like the US Marines are fancied, thrown in perform miracles that were sometimes necessary.

@SpringfieldMusketeer Finally, the Wehrmacht WERE responsible for some Jewish deaths in the Polish east and Soviet west because the were often the core of the partisans that stayed behind in the villages after the lead mobile forces advanced through and then attacked in behind German lines often coordinated by the NKVD, largely Jewish. That aspect was not part of the Jewish extirpation as such, but rather a by-product of ugly partisan war.

The Trawniki camp was used by those SS units in charge of Operation Reinhard to train camp guards and auxiliary special security personnel. Forced conscripts were primarily young Ukrainians, residing in Galicia, Wolhynia (Volhynia), Podolia, and the Lublin District. 1. In 1919 Polish forces had captured all of that formerly Czarist area in which so many of the Russian Jews lived, and became Polish Jews. The Jews were -- as can be verified -- a major part of the Bolshevik revolution. When the opportunity arose, in 1939 Stalin RECOVERED those land to the Soviet (formerly Russian and Ukrainian) domain. Poles won't agree, but that's not the point.

2. The Jews in that "eastern Poland" area had favoured the Bolsheviks and the Soviets because the Leninist Constitution gave them equal right, The Poles did not with much of the political class, especially Roman Dmowski virulently anti-jewish.

7. After the war the Poles counted these pre-1939 Jews as "Polish Jews" while the Soviets counted them as "Soviet Jews" based on their pre-1919 and post 1939 status. .

I'm saying that the Soviet re-occupation of areas the had been under polish occupation from 1919 on was led by the NKVD helped by the Jews that were resident there and were Bolshevik-friendly. For the Red Army and NKVD the local jewish population were "willing collaborators", as they had also been in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

A german "fallschirmjaeger" a paratroop, joined the Foreign Legion and ened up in Vietnam. This guy was killing Red Viets so much that Hanoi sent their best man. The german shot him through his scope. Apparently more than a few german paratroopers were in Vietnam and varying bountys were offered for them because the could kill better than anyone.

not sure if I agree with these numbers, history channel had German snipers at an average of over 500 kills each, those kills were verified by the Russians who found the diaries of German snipers so 180 would not be a big deal for a German sniper, I guess no one knows the real truth. and in WW1 allies lost 40,000 a month to German snipers alone.

the kills listed here were only kills that were confirmed by officers and the shots had to be fired in an ambush. the snipers killed a lot of enemies when they were defending but these did not count. and sometimes even officers were jealous because of the sniper's success and didn't confirm the kill. and another point is that most snipers threw a way the lists of their kills, because snipers were always tortured and killed if caught by the enemy. so the numbers aren t exact.

Crematoria: A modern crematorium takes about 22 hours to completely destroy a body. I don't think the Nazis invested that much in killing anyone jew or european.

@lilbabykush Even more to the point, there were many SS units that were strictly used for fighting duties and had little to do with the camps. Check out the terms Waffen SS, translation = weapon SS. Allgemeine SS = general SS. The Waffen SS were combatants, and fought on the front lines. The Allgemeine SS were the guys that ran the camps and the death squads. The lines do blur, but most people can't/won't make the distinction.
