I think Equality Now is not attacking gamers or video games just the ways in which they promulgate violence and objectification of women. If a video game had a minority being lynched that would not be allowed because it would be imitating a horrific hate crime. But if it is a woman being raped, molested, or humiliated then it is considered just a bit of fun.

There actually aren't any laws against racist games in the US. Even a mainstream game like GTA Vice City was criticized at one point for a part where the player participates in gang wars between Cubans and Haitians.

Of course if a game goes too overboard, it will likely be denied classification and most stores will refuse to sell it. No laws needed.

Likewise, EOCS (ratings body in japan) has self-censored its members from selling rape games. That'll pretty much wipe out the market anyway.

Also laws are usually too inflexible when it comes to creative works and deciding as to when they went too far. Interpreting something as obscene according to law can get very subjective. I think its best to leave it to the industry. If they are clearly being reprehensive and all else fails, then laws are warranted. I don't think that's the case considering that the Japanese industry is adjusting

It is quite a problem (it's also found in buses in India). I think that overcrowding and lack of respect are both to blame.

Enforcement is needed, but dialogue is even more important. People need to be taugh to respect each other from an early age.

Well the actual problem is that women abuse that right.

Since their subway cars are totaly full you can't even evade a touch like that many times and touch it by accident.

But many women won't understand that or they will just decide to say that they have been groped even if they weren't groped,especialy if they want to get rid of someone.

@madslasher, ever think that those subway cars are set aside for woman out of respect and privacy rather than fear of sexual assault? Those cars are only gender specific during rush hour, times when all the other cars get packed to the point of doors bursting open. I believe it has to do more with comfort than fear.

Also, Japan's crime rate in general compared to many Western countries is pretty damn small. Pretty sure they be pretty safe there...

On another hand, we live in a boring world. Boredom may not kill, but it certainly can make people weary and cranky. Work, spoonfed entertainment, rinse & repeat. If some people find a pleasant distraction/deviation from the everyday's life in games, let them be! Neither "violent" nor erotic games are evil.
