Saying Lost wasnt about the mystery and just the characters is like saying Godfather was all about the family and that it could have gotten by without any of the violence. If Lost didnt have the mystery element it would have been fucking cancelled after the first episode. The violence added tension to the Godfather just like the mystery added depth to the story.

6 years setting up a mystery and then oh right we never had an explanation, just look at Sawyer's abs and kates sexy ass and dont ask questions. And fuck everyone who says "oh it wasnt about the mystery it was about the characters", really well they sure devoted a ton of time to it. What made Lost great was the blend of drama and sci-fi. Godfather was all about the Corleone family so you can argue that it didnt need any of the violence but who the fuck wants a censored Godfather???

Isn't it fairly clear, albeit not explicit, what The Island is? Superficial Egyptology stuff (and one ecumenical stained glass window aside) its obvious the writers were attempting an Old Testament morality tale. Now, I can totally understand why that would piss people off, especially those who thought they were watching sci-fi. But I don't accept the "we need more answers" criticism. If you've stuck with it for six seasons and certainly past the midpoint it must be because you LIKE mysteries.

@itspeejay You're just proving my point. The entire 6th season consisted of attempting to tie together everything dating back to the 1st season. Abrams, with Lindelof, set up a premise and mythology, but then Abrams basically walked away from the project with no real sense of where it was going. He's unable to end stories. Just like with Alias, just like with MI:3 and the first Star Trek reboot movie, and I'm sure Fringe will spiral off in that direction as well. Writing laziness.

@Shyaporn I half-agree. Abrams is a lazy writer who walks into productions simply as the "assembly man" and then leaves before the production is done. However, in the case of Lost, it was obvious the big reveal was suppose to be "they're in limbo" but when the internet caught onto that idea in the middle of the first season, the writers said "NO WAIT! STAY AROUND ITS BETTER THAN THAT" and they tried for the rest of the show to match that promise... and couldn't come up with anything at all.
